Hi there Matt, I have a love of crafting especially with wood, I'm just starting my hobby at 63 years old (haha) and was thinking of buying the dremel but wasn't sure how it would help me then, I just discovered your channel and omg, you have made my day young man. I need lots of tutorials 😀 and you explain things simple which I like. Thank you soooooo much I love you (haha) so grateful.

Well presented thank you. I have the Fortiflex and have been carving on my live streams on my channel using it. A Fantastic machine to be sure. Highly recommend the Fortiflex. Be sure to use a Lithium grease for the flexi shaft. I tend to use mine daily for hours on end so once a week seemed appropriate.

I have two questions...How do you decide what to carve out? The letters on your box I assume could either be outlined or you could carve out the entire shape of the letter. I'm wondering if there is a rule of thumb you go by to decide what gets routed out and what will be outlined. Hope that makes sense. I'm also wondering why you use a brush rather than a spray on finish...do you get better results with a brush? Thanks much for taking the time to make us a video. Very helpful.

Thank you for the kind words! I used the flame to barely scorch the wood to bring out the grain. The difference is subtle and noticeable in person.

I appreciate the videos and love your work. Couple of questions: what grit is that cutting wheel, did you order it from the Dura Grit site? Also, I'm new to woodworking so i don't understand alot about staining and so forth. When you burn the wood, then stain it, doesn't the stain cover/hide the burn marks. Maybe you can show me one with the burn and one without the burn? I haven't seen all of your videos, so forgive me if i missed the ones about the burning/staining.
@CorneliusCreations Жыл бұрын
Thank. you for the kind words! 1) I forgot the grit of the duragrit burr. I imagine its around 100 grits or so. 2) Burnign the wood with a torch is just a personal preference. If you use it, use it lightly. The stain "stains" the wood, allowing the the woodgrain and and other dark elements to come through depending on the how dark it is. Most people want to be able to use stain so they can have a great color while seeing the wood grain. However, Basswood or other good carving wood doesn't have strong grain structure and stain looks nasty. I chose to torch my project to make it look a little worn and rusted :) Hope this helps! -Matt

@CorneliusCreations Жыл бұрын
The fortiflex is much more powerful. The big hand piece can get in the way sometimes. Depending on the projects you do the 4300 will be good.

Hey Matt great videos , I've learned a lot from watching you. I have a question about burr hop. I always here let the tool do the work and so I try to that and the burr starts jumping or hopping. Is it me, is there some advice you could share.
@CorneliusCreations4 жыл бұрын
That is due to hard grain. Let the burr do the work, but keep CONTROL of it while you let it do the work.

Question I have. I've been doing woodcarving for about year now however there are times when I'm carving small jobs with mask on. I know there's small particals flying around that can't be seen by the naked eye are certain woods more dangerous to breath such as woods already stained or finished of course. I know the dangers of paint. But what about woods that are fresh with nothing on them and can carving have long term effects on someone with a mask or without?
@CorneliusCreations4 жыл бұрын
Anytime you carve there will be small particles. I recommend a fan at least blowing away the particles if there aren't too much. But with that being said, I still recommend a dust mask.
