Tip 1: Make them care about the character (if a character dies and you don't care for them than what's the point? No one will feel impacted by it if they don't care) Tip 2: give them relatable qualities (Making them have similar qualities of you or people that you love can make them get attached to the character) Tip 3: trick the readers that everything will be fine (Let me tell you, this trick WORKS. It kills you in the inside, but this tip works *cries in tbhk* 😢) Tip 4: consider the affect of a character death in the story Tip 5: consider what else has been lost (Maybe important information, abilities, or personal things) Tip 6: create a realistic death scene Tip 7: associate the death scene with a previously sad moment (flashback, symbolism, and mentions of experiences etc.) Tip 8: use death scenes to advance the story (if you kill a character off just because you want to and it has no effect on the story than it's pointless) Tip 9: avoid predictable deaths Tip: 10: Make your readers miss the deceased character Tip 11: show how the characters have developed together Tip 12: show what happens after the character death (try to avoid time skips and show how the other Characters reacted to the deaths after it took place) Tip 13: Make things change due to the scene (things should change in the long term- characters personalities may change or a quest may be more difficult) Tip 14: if a character is dead, DONT BRING THEM BACK (if you don't intend for a character to come back, don't make them. I've seen so many stories and animes where they do this and it makes me very disipointed and makes it seem like they are lazy)

My story has a killing in the prologue, which triggered the series events leading to what happens now, two years later. The first person killed in the present is an unredeemable bad guy, a henchman hired by a major antagonist. While he gets what he deserves and what we probably expect for a character like him, we also met his mother a bit earlier in the story. His death affects his own team of course. It also causes some changes in one of the good guys, a young man who helped the veterans to eliminate this villain. This guy somehow has crossed the Rubicon, with fateful consequences for his mindset.

Great video. I think some predictable death scenes can be very touching. There is the song "Paper Plane", to which I cried.

Thank you for the video, I love your tips! Few manga, anime, and tv shows have good death scenes so these tips will help me from not being generic. One of the few series I think have really good "deaths" is Toilet-bound Hanako-Kun! God I cried so hard for chapter 71 😭

Oh, this is a pretty useful video, yet to make death not stupid, which would not have merged the character just like that, so also beautiful, we need to try. Thanks for the tips, Sensei! Will there be a video on creating drama and humor (contrast), as in One piece?
@midnightXcross2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching!! I'm planning on making a video about comedy writing soon, so I might include more information about adding drama and humor contrast in that tutorial. 😊

Oh, boy. I'm going to have to write the death scene of a child. The daughter of one of my main characters, Tuung. [I am so sorry Tuung]. I always feel guilt when I have to mistreat them. But it is to show why hes distant with his son. Among other things. But that's a bit complicated. Show must go on, I suppose.

It's so hard to write death scenes for characters like this. 😭 Especially when the characters are so close to heart. However, it's important to remember that if you care about your character, your audience would likely also feel the emotions in the death scene. As you said, the show must go on 😥

My mc Tsubasa is afraid of fire and has been due to severe phobia with even a candle frightening him, in the end, he dies after losing to the Big Bad and is burnt in a fire and he burns and the Big Bad laughs but when he sees Tsubasa isn't afraid of the fire and is smiling, he feels defeated as the reason he did everything he does was because of Tsubasa, so he goes insane and runs into the fire to pull him out and burns with him and whislt Tsubasa smiles at his death, the big bad cries out in agony cementing Tsuba's mental win even though he could never win Psychically, good or no?

Hey midnight x cross, I've been watching all of your "how to" vids and wondered; how about a video about mecha anime?
@midnightXcross2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for watching! I don't have a lot of experience with writing mecha, which is why I haven't made a full video about it. I might make a video about this topic in the future though. 😊
