Hi Nigel, glad to see your podcast is coming along. I've been learning Mandarin on Duolingo for the last year and a half (just so I could binge watch Chenqingling and get more out of it) and I kinda feel bad as I missed yesterday's practice. BTW the crotch wearing out on jeans is not unique to men. It's more the inner thigh seams that wear for some of us women, and it's not about size - it happens if you walk lots as the friction wears out the cotton. I think the denim is less tough these days - feels softer but wears out so quickly.

It was so bothering to remember that we had that same separation in craft lessons back in the primary school. (I'm from Finland.) Then we got the chance to "choose" for one semester, girls were pretty ok to choose woodwork (even though the teacher was a slimy perv) but all the guys who dared to choose sewing were immediately "gays" and it was back then just a slur. Don't miss those days.

It was actually funny, I absolutely love your sense of humour, I love it when you speak alone, and I love how you see the good in the bad. If someone were to make a joke where I have to rebuild my house and that makes me a good carpenter, I would actually laugh, because it's true! It's just so how ironic how the people being joked about are not as offended as those who are not even the one being joked about, like are people okay? Love your podcasts Uncle Roger!

Gift giving is generally a function of how well you know someone. When ideas don’t just leap into my head, I wander a mall or browse and it brings to mind what they were really wanting or may be able to benefit from. Often, these ideas are not products actually being sold at those stores. Also, consider buying gifts far in advance, at the time that such personal interactions occur. Also, definitely more Uncle Roger!

Rules on gift-giving: cheap, convenient, wanted. i) Only give something you can afford (and hopefully save money on); ii) Can you get hold of it easily? If you have to go to the furthest reaches of the Amazon rain forest to get a special wood carving for a person, you don't want that person in your life. They're more work than they're worth; iii) Do they want or need the gift? (This is the easiest of the rules. Just buy them something cheap and convenient and then invent a conversation you had eight months earlier when they said they needed it. They'll never remember - and if they do, pretend you confused them with someone more important/better looking/richer than them. Active flattery is better than wrapping paper when it comes to gifts.) Glad to see that in your quest to start WW3, you're beginning with the baby steps of pissing off your neighbours. You want an animated Uncle Roger series? What are you going to call it: "Mr SOY Bean"?
@ShaneCM2 жыл бұрын
A tip: you don’t have to remember what people like if you go ahead and buy the item they liked or wanted early and just hold on to it until Christmas. Don’t beat yourself up about this gift giving most people are not good at this or listening to others for that matter.

Amazon wish lists. That’s what they’re for. You don’t even have to buy the stuff on Amazon if you think they’re the evil empire. Before that, my family just told each other what we wanted and we got it. Where you run into trouble is when people make you guess, but if you guessed right and they find out, it spoils the surprise and now you have to get them another gift, which is why I don’t date that guy anymore . Also, cash always fits. You put it in a nice card or something, maybe some flowers, Merry Christmas. EDIT: my grandfather rocked gift giving. He started buying and hoarding gifts in July. So you just get it when they tell you or when you find something and you try to remember where you hid it.

I'm learning Hungarian on duolingo whilst watching your podcast. I learned how to say 'this is a dream' and a bunch of other confusing stuff, i learned enough Korean on duolingo to get the gist of most Korean conversations, i learned what i thought was a good amount of Swedish, i thought i could say a lot in Swedish, but all i can say is stuff like 'the child is eating the apple', or 'i like strawberries, but i love bread, i don't eat meat', but i can't understand anything Swedish people are saying.

Funny story about the bins actually, I have a friend whose neighbours STOLE their bins. It started off as their neighbours going through their bins but one night my friend looks out of his window and the old lady is just hobbling away with their bin. My friend records a video of it to send it to our group chat to prove that these people are tampering with their bins. When they went and asked them to return them, they acted like they didn't know anything about it even though the video clearly shows the lady taking the bin and walking to her house with it. So bin thieves are a very real problemin our communities
