Muttnchop Piper WAY Better! I would wake up and there would be a daily ritual of coughing and hacking up crud for about 45 mins after waking up. This was especially bad if I was up Elk hunting in the snow. Also my blood pressure has dropped from pre-hypertension range down to normal. Also it can be kinda expensive to start Vaping but the week to week cost is substantially cheaper. The only two bad things I’ve found with Vaping is other smokers I used to smoke with say I look like a pansy doing it (misery loves company I guess) and I can wake up and have dry mouth. The vape juice can be a dehydrator depending on your mix. But other than that 👍👍

the only bad thing about vaping IMO is that so many young kids and teens are getting into it, but tbh a lot of the kids who vape are the same sorts of kids who would have gotten into smoking anyway, so at least they're doing something less dangerous.

Pipes and cigars will always have a market, even if it’s a small one. I support vaping because of the nature of cigarette smoking, but pipe and cigar smoking is different. I vape when I don’t have time to sit for an hour or more to pack and light a pipe, but it will never replace pipe smoking for me. Be well, and happy piping-Tom.
@mu2freighter6 жыл бұрын
I enjoy vaping, and I don't see it as a replacement for pipes...from my perspective it's like a quick energy bar vs. a fine meal. Each has their place, and only the individual is the best judge of what's more useful or appropriate at any given time for them.
@mu2freighter6 жыл бұрын
PS- while I'm trying to get away from the mini filtered cigars I still smoke (AND inhale) even they are far less hazardous than the crap Big Tobacco adds to their products. Chemicals to keep them burning, arsenic, insecticide, I don't know what they add, but I sure don't miss it. MCP is correct: the cronyism between the FDA and Big Tobacco is a completely rotten thing and should be opposed at every turn. Say, I need to put in an order with Mt. Baker for more e-juice that will support them...good reminder!

@@MuttnchopPiper Pardon the OT ... I'm new to pipes and could use your advice (or other seasoned pipers): a local shop has a lot of bulk leaf Dunhill, namely Nightcap, but I think it's neglected and on the dry side. I bought an oz, rehydrated it with dist. H2O until it started to gather when pinched, and seems fine to my untrained palette. You think it's worth buying up, rehydrating, and storing for future use or is it unsalvageable? I assume the tins they have will be OK. TIA!

I am new to pipe smoking, I was never a cigarette smoker (I had smoked cigarettes on the odd occasion while drinking with friends throughout my teens and twenty's, never had cravings or bought tobacco before.) But at the beginning of this year I started vaping and for a little while enjoyed it. But after a while it just became... I'm not to sure how to describe it but "sickly/artificial/fake" I was drawn to pipe smoking because of the way it is simple but still quite complex. To me the "realness" of it is satisfying. So after a while I got my hands on a block of briar wood and carved my very own pipe by hand with minimal tools, as in my mind creating my own pipe, was almost like an initiation to become worthy to smoke from one. And man just trying to master the techniques of using the pipe is an awesome experience. Vaping is garbage LOL Cheers from New Zealand Muttonchop.

I was a 3 packs a day smoker. Started vaping, now I'm down to a pack or less per day, and gradually reducing the amount. My lung function has vastly improved. I still enjoy my pipe when I can (busy with my 1 year old baby girl). Long time fan Chris, and thank you for touching on the subject. Politicians and big tobacco are the snakes behind the push to kill vaping, and constricting the pipe community.

I've been waiting for something like this to come along. I smoke a pipe regularly, and vape occasionally. I enjoy the flavors of the e-juice. They both share very similar rituals in regards to care, maintenance and hobbying. However, this puts pipe smoking at risk... The FDA doesn't care what it is. You know how it all works...

I quit smoking cigarettes in 2007. In the winter of 2018, I was under a lot of stress and bought a pack of cigarettes. I smoked for a couple of months, smoking American Spirits and hand rolling. I started feeling like shit pretty quickly. Even though the tobacco I was smoking was high quality, I felt like garbage and was going through about 10 cigarettes a day. I went to a local vape shop and got set up with a refillable vape system and immediately kicked the smoking habit. After only a few days I felt 100% better. Although I had essentially replaced one habit with another, I definitely was feeling better physically and didn't stink like stale cigs all the time. I was definitely still hooked on nicotine though, and over the course of a year I gradually stepped down the strength of the nicotine in my vape juice until I was able to quit vaping altogether. I can attest, vaping is a very effective cigarette cessation tool and should be recommended to all cigarette smokers as a way to quit. Recently I picked up pipe smoking. I can tell you from my own perspective, it's nothing at all like smoking cigarettes or vaping. I don't do it for the nicotine hit (I don't really get one from pipe tobacco). There's something about the ritual, the time that it gives you for relaxation and reflection, the pleasant taste and smell of the tobacco, that makes pipe smoking just an enjoyable experience vs a habit. I don't feel like shit, I don't stink unpleasantly of stale smoke like with cigarettes, and I'm not just feeding a nicotine craving like with vaping. Anyway, I just wanted to share my views and experience. Thanks for the great channel and content!

I used to be a 20 a day smoker and the occasional pipe smoker, i switched to vaping some years ago and haven't smoked a cig for years now, the issue i have with vaping is you tend to vape a lot more than you ever would smoking cigs, because its so quick amd easy to use and always on hand i found my self vaping day and night my wife said that i vape way to much so i stopped for a day and didn't realise how much i did, it was just the habbit of bringing it to my mouth etc and that was hard to break after vaping for so long and so much, I've now ditched vaping entirely and gone back to a pipe as i can regulate it better to 3 times a day, morning,afternoon and night time, i love the taste of pipe tobacco and the smell that you just don't get from vaping, yes you have many vape juice flavours but it doesn't linger in your mouth like pipe tobacco.

BM Ranzo You’re from Latakia? Can you still get Syrian Latakia, or has production stopped completely? Back to your question: Tobacco’s nicotine content is strange. Burley, Latakia, and Virginias are usually considered high nicotine. Cavendish is probably the lowest in nicotine. Hope that helps.

I have 2 liters of high strength nicotine in the freezer 😉 I have been fit and healthy since 😀 I also use nasal snuff all the time since quitting. Last week I got a pipe after watching some videos and smoked my first bowl yesterday. Your slow technique video really helped and really enjoyed it. With vaping and the snuff I'll save the pipe as a nightly treat to finish off the day 😍

I smoked cigarettes since I was 13 and in the end I smoked 2 big packs a day. From time to time I smoked a pipe plus the many cigarettes and my health was getting worse and worse. Then 2 years ago I found out about smokeless tobacco like Dip, Snus and later vaping, I stopped smoking cigarettes completely with these alternatives. Now I do Dip, Snus and vaping to get my Nicotine along the day and in the evening or on special occasions I smoke a pipe or a cigar.

Now that I've switched to pipe smoking no more craving for cigarettes. Even slowed my vaping which was all day about every 10-15min. That's the problem with vaping. I am a recent pipe smoker, a noob if you like, and enjoying it too. I am also a seasoned vaper of 8 years, the only thing which ever got me off hand rolled smokes after 27 years. I love my vape, it's everything that smoking never could be and the health benefits are blatantly obvious. I have felt so much better since my vape journey began. The basic fundamental difference is that with smoking we burn a combustible material and yes ,as with all smoke, there are thousands of micro chemicals in what is inhaled or ingested. With vaping, nothing is burned so there is no smoke. It's cheaper by far (if you want it to be) and generally much healthier. But..... I still started smoking a pipe in late 2019. Whatever, go figure.

I hate all the anti vaping or anti smoking or anti piping saying “pipe tobacco has twice as much nicotine than cigarettes, and nicotine causes cancer” or anti vapers saying “e vapor had twice as much nicotine and tobacco as cigarettes “ vapor isn’t a tobacco product. And lots of people vape 0mg nicotine e juice. Just tell the truth .

While it is clear that vaping is less harmful and risky than smoking cigarettes, it is not clear what the long term health effects are. We simply have not had enough time for studies to be conducted. The real threat and need to regulate vaping is that these companies are often targeting kids and teens. It is well established that if they get a kid or teen addicted to nicotine, they will have a life long customer. There is also a fear that teens starting on vaping will turn to cigarettes. It is a two way street. The companies need to self regulate and not market candy flavors to young people. Having said that, there is a great benefit for cigarette smokers to switch to vaping. The health benefits and health cost savings to our system will be tremendous. Pipes and cigars shouldn't really be on the radar. I've never seen marketed to children the way cigarettes used to be and the way vaping is today. If they do not self regulate, the government should do so. Even with pipe smoking, don't fool yourself. There is still risk involved. Tobacco contains carcinogens. Period. The more frequent the use, the more you increase your risk. I suspect cigarettes are so much more deadly because (1) people inhale more frequently (cigar smokers who inhale are just as likely to develop lung cancer) and (2) the frequency is much greater. If you don't inhale, risk of lung disease and cancer goes way down. If you smoke occasional as many pipe and cigar smokers do, the increase in risk is minimal. However, if you smoke multiple times a day, every day, then the risk of oral cancer is highly elevated. Just my two cents.
@nathanmccrary876 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Livers while I agree that underage people should stay away from tobacco and nicotine in all forms, I can assure you that the vape industry is very good at regulating itself in keeping kids away. However if you think that fruity or candy flavored eliqid is made for kids you are 100% wrong. I’ve been vaping for over 5 years and my all time favorite liquid is a captain crunch flavored one. I’m currently vaping on a strawberry saltwater taffy liquid. I’m 31 years old and thoroughly enjoy candy flavors.
@democracydignityhumanrights5 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Livers oral cancer is extremely rare though and the biggest cause of it is actually Cigarettes. Cigarettes are made differently from other tobacco products and have extra additives, which when combusted create even more of the things you don’t want on top of all the bad already created in combustion, i wouldn’t worry about oral cancer at all, the second biggest cause is alcohol. The safest way to ingest tobacco is Snus, a form of smokeless tobacco that is pasteurized which has extremely low TSNAs (the 28 naturally occurring compounds in tobacco products that are carcinogenic, 21 of which are also found in coffee, yes I know if you burn tobacco you get several thousand different compounds, not referring to combustion here) which isn’t harmless but has a similar safety profile to vaping. And if fruity flavors of vape and tobacco some how are meant to appeal to kids (pure propaganda, the cartoons for example were actually meant to though) then alcohol shouldn’t have fruity flavors either, yet no one bats an eye at a chocolate mudslide, adults like fruity and candy flavors just as much as kids, if you don’t want your kids to use it be a parent and properly educate them about it. All drugs should be legal for adults and safety regulated period (while being realistic of course), regulating the flavors, packaging, etc, things of that nature which are truly maters of people’s personal freedom to make their own choices on what they want to put into their body, it’s wrong to deny people their free choice. If you don’t want people doing drugs there’s a better way to handle it than over regulation of people’s personal choices. I’ve developed a robust plan that directly adresses all the roots of drug addiction in society, if we follow that, we will dramatically lower usage of everything to next to nothing in one or two generations, without banning anything. Drug addiction and use itself is the side effect in our society, not the problem.

What would you say if faced with the same situation. If the FDA hired an independent testing facility with no ties to big tobacco, or the government, or the vapeing industry and that testing facility proved that vaping is more dangerous then smoking cigarettes, then I would believe, as it stands I’m not so sure. 😒😒😒

Another excellent video sir! We should also keep in mind as a community of pipe smokers that ”vaping” hasn't been around long enough to truly determine the side-effects of it in a long term sense, which is why I disagree with it being lumped into the same category. Pipe smoking has been around for hundreds of years at this point, vaping has not, there for there is no real way to know. I'm a vaper who found the pleasure of pipe smoking through making my own e-liquid from pipe tobacco (known as NET). I smoked for 23 years and the only thing that got me to stop was vaping and that is the story for about 10 million other former smokers. Yes the big tobacco company's are involved in the deeming regulation push the big dog in that fight are all those States that are losing money from the Tobacco Settlement. They have lost a huge amount of revenue. They have all sold bonds backed on those settlement funds that they now don't have so they need to go after a new revenue base by regulating anything they can call tobacco related. Remember with regulation come new and higher taxes.

The heavy hitters, BAT and Altria (Philip Morris) would love to get out of tobacco altogether and get into vaping. The nannies in the government want it all gone. The 2007 Grandfather date on deeming regs is totally aimed at vaping, when vaping came out. We are just caught up in the process. The driving force behind the push back to the deeming regs is the Premium Cigar Industry, and pipe tobacco is sort of riding their tails. The day will never come when I smoke a battery operated pipe. The experiment is very interesting and should prove quite instructional.

I was just wondering as I am a pipe smoker who's inhaling the smoke. I am a cigarette smoker originally and still smoke cigarettes but trying to cut it out with pipe smoking and I only find it satisfactory so far when inhaling otherwise I feel like I'm missing on the smoke. Don't get me wrong, you can inhale and enjoy the taste of the smoke and so on, I just figure I'm not the only one out there and also that's how people use to smoke pipe before there were cigarettes or is it? Any thoughts as to what inhaling pipe smoke instead of cigarette smoke would imply ? Anyway I've been able to cut my cigarette consumption of about 75%. I suspect the answer is hard with that big a range of different blends but I'm getting through the day with capstan flake but waiting for an order to switch to the Solani virginia perique flake blend and I get my candies once in a while which are Gawith commonwealth and perfection.

Weren't corrupt politicians behind the push that cigarettes were good, back in the day? Cigarettes have a couple hundred chemicals/additives in them compared to pipe tobacco that has a few, up to maybe 20 at most. They usually seem to be closer to real ingredients, rather than chemicals.

I had my 1st cigarette while in kindergarten, seriously. At 15 I'd go through a pack a week. At 16, close to a pack a day. Smoked for 40+ years and tried all the liquid vapes without success. February this year I decided to try IQOS and from the 1st puff, knew this was the answer. Unfortunately, my job in the EU ended and I found out I can't get the products here in US. You were completely wrong about IQOS, it's not combustion, it's high heat vape. I did find a solution. I use a "herb" (AKA marijuana) vaporizer and loose leaf tobacco, no combustion. Not as satisfying as IQOS, but doable. I'm going to get some pipe tobacco, as I've heard it more enjoyable, and vape that!

This is off topic and more related to your intro videos as I am new to pipe smoking. How should a person pack the pipe when using a ribbon cut or more of a stringy type of tobacco? From your videos I would assume I do a pinch/fold and pack the bowl method instead of the three layer method? Thank you!

Thanks for new video! Many of my friends went to alternative type of smoking and they enjoy it a lot more than a traditional way. But for me vaping or hookah stuff makes me cough very hard because of the high moisture steam that its produce and that thing i didn’t like. Also the aroma of this type of smoking is very intense and has some kind of unnatural feel for me which also makes me think about a heavy chemical content of those products. Iqos and this type of smoke also has a strange taste. So I prefer a traditional way to smoke and don’t want to search something new. But anyway choosing something is a matter of taste and your own preferences! Have a nice smoke for you all !! :)

Evening MuttonChop. I have a question regarding a pipe I purchased. It was a Scotte pipe. I read something about it being a very bad product and was curious if this was because I saw somewhere that this pipe releases a chemical that can be very dangerous to the user. Didn’t know if this was true or not. Also, from that, what are some good pipe brands to purchase? I have a cob, a savinelli, and a couple briar pipes.

Well since I quit ciggs for vaping and just recently almost died from vaping and still after a month have to go to get cat scans and being on steroids it is much safer to smoke a pipe. Vaping doesn't put black tar on your lungs but it does inflame and put holes in outside lining of lungs at Brandon hospital in the past year on average they have a min of 5 people a week in critical condition from vaping and one death a month the news only says there is like a dozen deaths which is b.s. it's because the CDC wants people to do a lung biopsy to determine if it's from vaping and none does it because it only causes more problems.

A question please if i may. How did you end up with the conclusion that propilen glicol is bad for human health? It whose your own laboratory test? Do you have the necesary training to do this kind of tests? Or you just say it because you heard it in a video on youtube? (KZbin it is not a source of knowledge) I hope you now that propilen glicol is an ingredient in some drugs, shampoo tooth paste, liquid dish waser and the list goes on. Take care of your health and eliminate all the things that contain propilen glicol from your life, but keep the pipe because it is healthy and prevents cancer. Have a nice day.

Another tid bit of info that I believe may become part of the deeming regulations if not part of it already. I saw a segment on my local news channel last week about Roswell Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY and the University of Rochester Medical Center is receiving a $19 million dollar government grant for a 5 year study of the effects of food grade flavorings being inhaled in flavored tobacco. Here is the link to the article from Roswell's website, www.roswellpark.org/media/news/roswell-park-and-urmc-create-19-million-research-program-focused-flavored-tobacco I noticed that of all the tobaccos mentioned (hooka, water pipes, flavor infused cigars, e-cigarettes/vaping fluids), pipe tobacco was not included. However, since they are going after all the other forms of tobacco and vaping mediums, any findings that result will likely become part of the deeming regulations and also effect pipe tobaccos in the end. That is something I read between the lines of the study announcement. On the lighter note, I accept your challenge and will try your experiment tonight with a bowl of Sleepy Hollow in my Bjarne Viking Sandblast Yellow Band 118T. Thanks for this video, and please keep 'em coming, sir.

Jeffrey Walker - This is dire news, but I expected something like this, they won’t rest until Smoking in all its forms is outlawed, except for the smoking that’s controlled by the big tobacco companies and the Government. That will be deemed safe for the public to consume. 😏😏😏

i got into vaping its fun and has a lot of flavors to explore and the cliche of "i feel better, i taste and smell more" is undoubtedly true, i tasted a Marlboro this February and couldn't finish it, so nasty, i was shocked at how fast i got cigarettes out of my system for good. but sometimes i go back to a pipe and a cigar when i just crave that flavor, i have to be sparing with my pipe tobacco as i live in SEA, we dont get the good stuff over here in my parts, amazon doesn't even ship to my country, tobacco companies? i wish, i had a hard time shipping all my artisan tobacco here in the first place. also dont vape old juices that contain diacetyl! very dangerous!

Let's face it, if the FDA & the CDC were serious about cutting cancer rates cigarettes, and probably any other tobacco product, would be banned.. The problem is that the vape lobby can't throw money at the Senate like the cigarette lobby does. If nicotine was the problem you wouldn't be able to get gum or patches at Rite-Aid.
@dciurej6 жыл бұрын
Chris, As you said at the end, the thing about pipe tobacco is the flavor, not the nicotine. If vapers are using their "pipes" to just sip the flavor of the stuff they use, and not inhale it, I see a similarity. But is that what is happening or are they fully inhaling to get a nicotine kick? I would really like any vapers to comment on this and whether the fluid they get has the wide variety and flavors that we enjoy in pipes smoking. Also, you mentioned that pipe tobacco is probably the purest type of tobacco one can get, but how do we know what is in the juice that people use to vape with?

Hi. The choices with e liquid are to many to mention however there are 5 categories bakery's fruits desert's beverages and my fave tobaccos/ cigarette style e liquid .I'm a mtl vaper = mouth to lung tight air flow low ish watts 2.4mg Nicotines per ml liquid to satisfy me and it works amazing!! By me switching to vaper products from being a 40 cigs a day smoker the stars are the limit so many pros to mention . yes I do inhale just as a smoker would . but because were not burning organic material / tobacco leaf . there no carcinogens present in vaporised liquid /heat not burn. vaping is saving my life . a study from the royal college of physicians says vaping is 95% less harmful the traditional combustible tobacco cigarettes . but I still do really enjoy smoking a pipe 3 times a week . for me it was the stinky fags that had to go hope this helps ☁☁
@m_waz79456 жыл бұрын
I can't speak for most, but I make my own juice and build my own coils, removing the influence of third parties to an extent. The major concerns long term are whether all the flavoring compounds are safe for inhalation (there are a lot currently in use) and whether the heating of the metal coil itself produces sufficient quantities of toxins to be an issue. These are minor concerns when compared to the immediate and known danger of traditional cigarettes but something that some in the community are wary of nonetheless. It has been my experience that the majority of vapers do it for the nicotine (as a means of cigarette replacement), but there are a small minority that do it for the flavors, usually those crafting and testing their own recipes.

drohegda - With the Deeming regulation a lot of tobacco companies such as Dunhill, and McClelland have decided to close their doors, I don’t think the trend is over, I think we will loose a few more before it’s said and done. That’s why you are having trouble locating certain blends of tobacco. So heed my warning, if you have some favorite tobacco’s that you can still get, start buying them, get at least 10 tins of each, more if you have the funds. McClelland announced they were closing their doors on a Monday, and every tobacco they produced was gone by that Friday. So don’t wait. 👍👍👍

Obviously back then i did almost everything wrong i suppose so now i am trying to learn things the right way. i have one question so far, because in the videos i watched i didnt hear about it. Can i smoke bowl after bowl in my pipe during a day? does it need some cleaning between or some resting? thank you in advance and excuse me for my poor english. A big thanks of course to Muttnchop piper.
@MuttnchopPiper6 жыл бұрын
Kostas Maziotis - There are 2 camps on this subject, some say no, some say yes, for me it’s in the middle, if you smoke the same type (Aromatic, Non Aromatic) then yes, dump the ash and Dottle, sweep away the ash along the inside of the bowl walls, clear away any moisture or Dottle from the bottom of the bowl, run a couple of pipe cleaners through the stem, refill and smoke. If on the other hand you are going from an Aromatic to a non Aromatic, you need to use another pipe. 👍👍

The bottom line is vices are regulated, and should be aged restricted. Other then that, if you want to smoke, the government should stay out of it. The government has targeted the smoking industry for decades now, yet they seem silent on alcohol, processed meats, and processed foods in general.
