I think my favourite thing about Cold is that it takes place in an area where i live and just watching it feels nostalgic and comfortable and i could really get in the story because of that. People really neglect Canada as a setting in stories and it always warms my heart to see films, books, shows etc in Canada. Please keep up the good work thank you

I was expecting to love this because I always love your videos, but right about halfway through I just started sobbing. I've always felt like a storyteller looking for a medium and I think this might be it. Congrats and on the series, and thank you for this glimpse behind it

This is really well put together! I think the 'behind the scenes' aspect of making something is just as important as the final product itself. Unfortunately I'm in Toronto, so I won't be able to view your new series, but hopefully it'll come out in Canada soon! Glad you're back on youtube! :)

really enjoyed this series and thank you for showing the behind the scenes making of the show. as a fellow young female filmmaker I found this really empowering, inspiring and beautiful to watch. your comment on not suppressing human vulnerability when helming a project and trying to have everything together was so truthful and well articulated. thank you.

I love the show already! And I love your behind the scenes footage - you literally inspire me as a film maker. I met you at vidcon this year and I wished I would of told you the extent of how much I've been inspired by your videos over the years. :)

Hello Emily, I totally get what you mean by "being too young and having to prove yourself," especially in filmmaking. I think you just did. Thank you also for making this series of "How we made cold." It is very special content.

That comment you made about showing your emotions as a director (particularly as a woman I think) & how it feels like committing a crime on set - I know exactly what you're talking about. I thought for a long time that I had to emulate strength and decisiveness as a director because you are supposed to be leading everyone, like you said, but I've recently changed my mind about it. I realised that I think I was trying to be more masculine maybe? & that all fed into the idea that being feminine is, well, "weak," which I don't believe at all. I think showing your emotions is brave. After all, a director is meant to be making something (whatever it may be) that is meant to make an audience FEEL something, right? Surely being intuitive and emotional would benefit that? I went to a lecture last year by Thomas Schlamme who directs lots of television in the US and he said something interesting about women directors - he said that a friend had told him that it was annoying that the crew always expected her to cry on set cos she was a woman and he said 'what's wrong with you crying?' as in 'why not use that?' I liked the way he put it. Anyway sorry for the essay, I'm so interested to see where these episodes go - I'm just waiting for all the problems to start because filmmaking = problems haha :)

+Blonkk I think these discussions are so important to have as women who are in the director's chair - it's so helpful to know what kind of expectations have been set in a historically male dominated role so we can see how we fit into that and where we have to push the boundaries still to make people see that we're at home there!
@Blonkk8 жыл бұрын
Completely agree :) Just cos' it's always been that way, doesn't mean it's the "right" way!
