Another advanced class in the 'Oblique' & 'Ellipse' bends. CAD to Physical to CAD. Tay brings it back to basics with a little logic. If you are ever in Roanoke and have a dream about something you want, these guys can knock it out. This is a Great Shop that is ever creative.

A great demonstration of how something that look simple can be a complicated build.

If there was a moto we should have printed and put up on the wall it's that straight lines and right angles are easy. Custom is always a tough nut to crack, I think that's definitely one of Tay's gifts, making hard things look effortless and seamless!

I would have approached this project from the opposite ditection, so I especially appreciated seeing how you conquered it. I have more experience with stonework than metal. Whereas you assumed the stone as fixed and worked the metal around it, I would have fixed a precise metal cut slightly smaller than my stone, then wet-grinded the stone into conformity. This video showed an impressive range of mastery of techniques for making metal conform to specification. Thank you.

Best way of copying a none standard elypse is to photo from the top. Then trace it from the image in CAD, scale it and clean it up.

A lot of glass tables have those little rubber nubs that the glass rests on, it helps take away the vibration caused by any slight imbalance. They're only a buck or two to buy
@tylerpuccio988319 күн бұрын
The first shop I worked at I got to play with an 8’ tapered roller and learned so much from the owner about cold rolling/bending. I know you weren’t making a circle but when you do pre roll the last 6-12” to you radius checking with a template prior to turning the material around to increase press with the roller. Hope that makes sense but it worked great. Very seldom did we have to modify after the fact.

Want to up the geometry challenge tell your CAD to generate a 'proper' scalable logarithmic scroll (so not an approximation of quadrants). Got it sorted in the end but 🥜'y. Nice job on the table too 👍

An ellipse is the shape traced around two focal points, such that for all points on the curve, the sum of the two distances to the focal points is a constant. It's actually a really rigorous definition if you compare it to something like an involute or epicycloid.
@AnneDunning-s3c12 күн бұрын
Thank you for keeping me from being the only one fidgeting through that discussion. This piece looks like an oval rather than an ellipse. Do not tell Tay.

When I cut cnc plasma stuff that's going to have other stuff welded to it, if I don't use tab and slot, I program in a little 1/16" external pip ▲ in the edge to mark the spot. When it's all welded up I grind it off. No need for a template. Also good for marking centerlines and other stuff.
@5ivearrows17 күн бұрын
I might cut the lower oval out of half inch plate on the plasma table. I'd likely do it in halves to not waste the entire area of the oval.
@LiftArcStudios12 күн бұрын
That definitely makes sense! It's always that balancing act of going on feeling and style when we're crafting something and figuring out a way to CNC the process instead.
@5ivearrows12 күн бұрын
@@LiftArcStudios I would only CNC it because I don't have the masterful level of bar bending skill displayed here lol
