So are SF not ever on gear? I've seen plenty of pics of guys who, I dont care about elite genetics I know what those are like, the guys Ive seen are on something. No way is someone maintaining so much muscle under the conditions theyre in. I was always amazed as that seemed a risk more than a benefit.

That mental awareness of all your surroundings all the time as if they were a threat is borderline mental illness in today's society where you get insane amount of sensory overload if you don't filter out meaningless stuff. There's so much to think about and so many things to pay attention to and so few are actually threatening (in fact I can't say if I've ever in +30 years passed something that could've turned out to be a problem). You can practice it but it is very exhausting, especially in more busy places. But in the past it was extremely useful for anyone when people lived in much more survival based environment. Such a weird development. I feel like I was much more mentally strong back in my late teens when I did military service. Even though it feels like now I know better how to push myself etc. I was just young and naive and hadn't been through hardships and illnesses of life. Being young helps especially because you just handle more beating without thinking what it's for. When you get older it's much easier to have the "f this" when it doesn't serve you any benefit or purpose. If you don't think about the purpose, you do really well in the military. Or if you treat it like a game where you just try to do really well and it's not your real life where you have emotions and care about where you're going and how you're using your time, you just execute the tasks to your best ability. I did really well just because I didn't see the reason to protest, just tried how well I could do the stuff asked. But the special forces guys are different, instead of conscription they apply, the selected few from the motivated group. For that stuff it's no longer enough that you have both physical and mental capability to do well and you're not sandbagging like many are, for that you really do have to perform. My friend became a paratrooper officer in conscription, which I consider a special unit here. After the service he ran marathons for fun and studied to become a medical doctor. Was a great musician when we were teenagers. You could tell he was different. I wonder if PED usage in the units is sort of two-way benefit. You get more physical ability, but you also get more of that aggression that's necessary to have in combat. Like from what I understand about steroids is that you're not as afraid of consequences, you might not even think about the consequences and you're more willing to do harm (although special unit soldiers and today's soldiers have much more need to assess when to use force to begin with if not direct combat). The downside being your intelligence takes a hit. After service I bought the service boots. They were so good. +10 years after I'm still wearing them and the feet love them.

I mean I don’t disagree, but I don’t think the average strength coach would pass on the chance to see how people from those units adapt to different things.
