To anyone currently learning a new skill / progressing at something, you won’t regret recording your journey. Makes improvement much easier to notice, and can be very motivational.

It is kind of sad i don't have data of myself when i'm still a potato. I saw a picture of myself as an amateur and looked OK but for me back then it was impressive but the me now tells that dude in the photo like dude should have tried harder lmao. It's good if you have very linear growth through the years but it's really rare for people to actually be obsessed with a sport so most don't even do sports at all so the thought of recording the journey doesn't really pop up in your head since as beginners we never really imagined we'd do it for so long and so intensely.

Literally the best weightlifting video or documentary I’ve ever seen this. To have all that footage from when you started is amazing. Absolute credit to yourself putting this together and just the time and effort you’ve put in filming and documenting. Then there the weights you’re lifting! Class respect 🫡

I'd love to see an interview with Clarence's parents to see what they made of all this?!?! I know they will be very proud, but also there must have been a little bit of 'why is our son playing in the rubbish dump AGAIN??' 🤣 Thanks for the video - very interesting and inspiring.

I mean honestly that's just pure genetics and raw skill. Consider the fact that countries like China have to select among thousands to eventually get guys like Tian Tao, whose lifts are a good equivalent of what Clarence has achieved relative to their weight non-professionally. That by itself is just insane. And that is just in weightlifting.

Watching this made me think. The level of activity and fitness in childhood and youth is correlated with athletic performance later. This could obviously be selection bias but I actually think it's causally linked. I had a rather sedentary childhood but I did loads of pushups. Today my bench press is completely overdeveloped compared to my squat. I am more consistent with squatting, I enjoy it more and I train it way harder but it just doesn't progress at the same rate for me. Being an active kid and especially starting strength training early, I would assume heavily influences your strength ceiling.
@ERACLAB2 ай бұрын
it probably affects your self-image a lot too. As Clarence said he liked some exercises more because he did them better. I focused on squats more than any other exercise because I simply liked it more and thus it grew much faster.
@copicmarker10212 ай бұрын
could be, i jerked off a lot as a early teen and my wrist is unbreakable
@doctordaro21122 ай бұрын
@ERACLAB that probably matters. My experience is just n=1 but despite loving squats and doing them more often, harder and arguably better than bench press they lag behind.
@harleyzeth2 ай бұрын
100%. I used to do push ups, sit ups, and pull ups when I was a kid, and pull ups are obviously far more difficult than push ups and sit ups, and now in my 20s my pulling strength and overall back development is several years worth of progress ahead of everything else.
@TheHighestNoon2 ай бұрын
Damn, this is actually a pretty spot-on insight. When I was a teen I was constantly climbing things and jumping things, and today my back and legs have always overshadowed my pressing strength.

Just a bit more info on what you used and how you felt etc. It would be really interesting to know as I did them about the same age as you but I wish I didn't. I didn't know anywhere near enough about what I was doing with them and felt like I ruined my body with them. All the best pal 💪🏽👍🏽

I see a lot of people in the comments beating themselves up about their own athletic performance being so much worse than Clarence's. People should take a step back and realize that Clarence is an extreme genetic outlier who also started training seriously very early. Unless both of those apply to yourself, just stop comparing yourself to others and keep grinding.

The early parts of this really sum up how jank it was to get into fringe sports back then. I also did a little parkour around then so watching that stuff is a very relatable experience as well as lifting in gyms not at all set up for classic lifts. It's a pointless hypothetical but if you read this Clarence I am curious, what weights do you estimate you would have done if you hadn't had the knee problems in 2014 and decided not to go cycling in 2015?

@davidroche76852 ай бұрын
The thing is this man is genetically gifted 1 percent or less. all his Traning programs followed to the letter for years won't even remotely get you close to the numbers he has on the bar even with drugs. He has those superfast twitch muscle fibres which is the Key to been very strong, big vertical jumps are key . Just look at how explosively he jumps and how high! that explains how he fucks big heavy weights around! Even as young boy in his teens was way above average strength. NfL and rugby recruiters don't test the strength of young athletes with heavy weights, they use the tried and trusted vertical jump method instead. Big vertical jumps equals way above average strength.
