Hey Kale! I was wondering, when you make these sharp turns, do you feel that you're putting pressure on the tail to make the rotation, as if you're putting your rear foot at the end of a skateboard tail and lifting up the nose a little? Or is it a fluid motion where you're not really tapping the tail as if it's a skateboard and trying to lift the front for less pressure, and keeping the whole board on the wave and making a more fluid carve-like motion? If you don't understand my question just lmk lol

This anchors tip is amazing. I'm in that transition stage where i'm starting to get good at snaps and cutbacks, this tip about body movement got me to turn my head and throw my body more on turns

That bottom turn to off the top at 2:33/2:34 to 2:36 is epic world class, tops.

You know what Kale - have a look at Chris Hemsworth surf. He does the EXACT same thing, and it's that kind of extension and rotation that made me actually look at him and basically consider him a semi-pro surfer. No he's not gonna win a WSL title. But he's actually very, very good. I love this critical thinking and breaking down of surfing. You can learn so much right down to the most subtle of movements that make HUGE differences. And other times, it's just what makes what is an otherwise technically correct surf, actually LOOK professional and more polished. There's something about good surfing, and then good VISUALLY APPEALING surfing.

Good vid, been noticing improvements to my form after learning the value (and agony!) in the kind of precise self critique these videos ingrain in you. Those slow Mo replays on the Wsl comps help no end too, watching and trying to emulate that torsional throw and drive of the arms to lead turns has been a revelation. So much more torque and jazz off the top. Cheers

Thanks so much for the fun well edited and clear videos. I don't know what your opinion is but for me there is a lacking of female surfers and surf tips on the channel. Workouts etc. might call for modification for women, not to mention some girl power inspiration. What do you say, any chance?

Hey Kale. Great video. I am a beginner surfer from Portugal and I've been surfing for about two months. When i try to generate speed my arms just flop around like I'm a squid or something can you help me out fixing this? I also don't bend my knees enough is there any exercise or technique to make it easier? Thanks and keep producing this awesome videos.

How to Rip thanks For the rely buddy. I’ve been trying to add a little more VL to My boards. My new lost driver is 28. I was riding a Fred rubble Merrick that was only 26 VL. Long story short bought a lost that was 26 liters. Didn’t float me well, so I got lucky my buddy traded me his new lost driver for my lost Buggy. We are the same height 5”11 but he’s 150 I’m 170. It worked well I love this board 🤙 I never realized how much VL mattered until a couple years ago.

Beginner question but why is lowers considered world class. It doesn't look that big in most of the videos I see. Although it is really clean I see quite a few videos with clean waves that aren't on the world tour? Does consistency or speed come into it? Or the amount of talented surfers that surf it? Not dissing lowers, I've been to San O and some of the other more beginner friendly waves in the area and had a lot of fun as they are crazy consistent (at least compared to UK) but the waves didn't feel as powerful as other places I've been on hols for example Portugal. I am interested in how one break only a couple of miles away could be much better when receiving effectively the same swell.

Okay so you cover turns a fair bit. But what I want to learn is that first initial push from the pop up. How can I go from the pop up, bottom turn and push up the wave to start generating speed. I find once I'm at the bottom of the wave, it closes out and ride over. Been surfing for 9 months and still struggling bringing my knees up/pumping and trimming on the wave. SEND HELP!

Why does my board feel stuck when I try to turn it? I try to turn and I just fall backwards instead of moving the board
@nicelydone80175 жыл бұрын
Jubes I had this same problem early on, especially surfing backside. Here is what helped me: back foot back, back knee tucked in, look where you want to go, open up the leading shoulder, compress at the bottom of the turn, fall, get frustrated, watch How to Rip videos again, repeat.
@JubbaTTv5 жыл бұрын
Nicely Done thank you! What do you mean by back knee tucked in?
@nicelydone80175 жыл бұрын
Jubes Watch good surfers and you’ll see that when they crouch down their back knees are slightly bent in towards the nose of the board rather than out like a squat. It doesn’t seem like it would make a big difference but it does. It helps me generate some rotational force.
@KalesBroccoli5 жыл бұрын
Probably you more than the board however fin set up and rail engagement could be causing this. Also your compression / overall technique
