My smart 12 week puppy snookers me to go door to get the treats - after she does the outdoor break with treats and the environment change. I feel like the con man’s Mark. I go to door anyway and we walk out anyway and then back in just to let you know. - I use the great & tasty highly rated too dogs treat - the freeze dried beef liver.

It's never a bad thing to teach your puppy that good things come from you, and good things happen when she pays attention to you. You're building a communication system that will serve you well for other training skills.

My puppy is an 8 week old mini dachshund. I just got her 3 days ago. I started to potty train her outside, but now there is 8 inches of snow. I reverted to pee pads in the garage. I have a play area for her and she cries and yelps when I put her in there. Still working on the crate. What do you when she won't stop crying and yelping after 10 minutes?

What would you do if you had to be to work by 6 AM? How do you get a routine going for a puppy?
@HowToTrainADreamDog2 ай бұрын
You might have to start your day pretty early in order to meet the puppy's needs before work. Or hiring a pet sitter to come in and cover some of the necessary activities would be a good option.

Question, we have a new 10 week old YorkiPoo. Do you get up in the middle of the night to let you dog out? What should be a good bed time and awake time for a 10 week old puppy.
@HowToTrainADreamDog5 ай бұрын
Most 10 week old puppies have to go out at least once for a potty break. If he's not alerting you and he doesn't have accidents in his crate, let him sleep. If he alerts you by rustling, whining, scratching or you hear he's awake, then take him out for potty. If he's not alerting you and he's having accidents in the crate, then you'll need to get him out proactively, starting a few hours after he's gone to sleep and doing some trial and error to find the best time.

Is my puppy “slow” or am i doing something wrong?? When i train with food, treats or toys with my 9 week old puppy or give her any commands or say her name she does NOT pay attention or show ANY interest to chase treats. What the heck do i do???? This is so frustrating i feel like all my effort is being wasted. Please help
@HowToTrainADreamDog5 күн бұрын
You're effort isn't being wasted, she's still really really young. You've only had her about a week or so, she was born only 2 months ago. Give her time to settle into her new home and get used to you and a new routine. I briefly talk about this topic in this short clip kzbin.infoUgkxVr-uJKc2OAE3PHZzNfz9zcvn05uBjPqV

Do you introduce a lead for walking as soon as you start potty training?
@HowToTrainADreamDog10 ай бұрын
You can begin the positive association with the leash and collar as soon as the puppy comes home, but loose leash walking is a skill made up of multiple skills put together, so it's important to go slow and advance only as the puppy is understanding the training.

👉🏻👉🏻👉🏻HELP! So my 9 week old bernedoodle puppy is doing really well, however he wants to pick up every single tiny twig or stick and chew it, break it into small choky pieces. It terrifies me because I had a lab get a 3 -4 inch stick lodged in his throat and was becoming lethargic while I was on the phone with the emergency vet. He was able to get it out eventually thank God, but I thought he was going to die and I’m now traumatized from it. That’s been 15 years ago. So what do I do when new pup grabs a stick? I do my best to rake the sticks away, but we have every afternoon thunderstorms here in Florida during the summer and so many fall from all the trees in our yard. please tell me what I can do to keep him from grabbing them!
@HowToTrainADreamDog7 ай бұрын
A 9 week old puppy isn't ready for "leave it" or "drop it" training yet, but that will be your goal as he gets older. For now, redirecting him and preventing him from getting things will be your strategy. You might also puppy proof an area of the backyard so you don't have to watch him so carefully. This is unrelated to the video, but how would you introduce a puppy to cats? I know in other videos you say that it should be a positive experience but I know my cats don’t enjoy the presence or even the smell of dogs very much. Thank you in advance!
@HowToTrainADreamDog10 ай бұрын
This video can help you with that! Cat treats can help the cats have a more positive association with the puppy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIDWeWxti5Jsibc

I introduced my previous Labrador and my cat by keeping them separated and introducing them slowly...minutes, to an hour, to a couple of hours, etc. until my cat was comfortable being around the dog (they were both puppy and kitten at the time). This worked out well for me introducing them in stages. If our dog got too rambunctious/curious with her or if she was being skittish/afraid then we would keep them separated and just keep introducing to each other slowly. Now, I have the situation where my cat is fully grown (15 years of age) and has been without a dog for almost a year (he passed away). We are getting another puppy in two days. This time, we have two playpens for the puppy that she will stay in until she's a little older. This will allow our cat to come out from hiding and come and meet the puppy on her terms since the puppy won't be able to get out of the playpen until we let her when she's a little older (about 6 months). By then, our cat will be used to having another dog in the house. She can come and touch noses with the puppy and smell the puppy, but through the small openings in the playpen.

What was the licking toy she was using before naptime? Where can I buy it?
@HowToTrainADreamDog8 ай бұрын
It's a fillable toy, like a West Paw Toppl or Kong! The one most similar to that one was the West Paw Toppl - you can get one here: www.howtotrainadreamdog.com/Toppl

I just got my puppy from a breeder and she is 8 weeks old. She doesn’t engage in anything (eating, pooping, peeing, playing) if I am not in her playpen. She’s not food motivated and sleeps almost all day unless I am in with her. Any advice? Rather than eating she just comes below or on my lap..
@HowToTrainADreamDog4 ай бұрын
This is really normal for a puppy who just came home. Keep her world small and give her some time to settle in. You'll likely see her come out of her shell in a few days or a week.
@jenniferlee28364 ай бұрын
@@HowToTrainADreamDog thanks! Yes, she is willing to come out of the play pen. But just not motivated in doing other things in her playpen by herself.

Young puppies are not good at being alone or entertaining themselves. That comes with time and training.

My pup is 6 months and our older pup is 17 months. It’s been difficult to train the younger cause the older gets jealous.😏
@HowToTrainADreamDog10 ай бұрын
Dogs don't feel jealousy per-se but they definitely react to a change in the environment, including if you are not able to spend the normal amount of time with them. The puppy definitely needs a quiet environment in order to train. The older dog is a big distraction.

I’m confused if 8 week puppies are allowed to go potty outside since they have not full vaccinations?
@HowToTrainADreamDog3 ай бұрын
Yes, there is a way to do it safely for them, and it's important for the puppy to start learning about the world. This video will show you how to do it safely: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKrFkoehadyXfaM

Hi Monique. There's a way to take your puppy out safely, which is actually very important. You want to expose him or her to the outside world in a positive way when he is young, which builds confidence with new things for a lifetime. This video explains how to do it safely but in a way that is beneficial for the puppy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKrFkoehadyXfaM

So am I right in assuming that you can use some of breakfast to train them .. not setting the bowl down but using it as “treats”
