A bit of nerdery about Almost(Sweet Music): the lyrics reference more than a dozen other songs! Stella by Starlight, That Was My Heart, Let's Get Lost, Let the Good Times Roll, Smoke Rings, Paper Doll, It Don't Mean a Thing, My Foolish Heart, The Very Thought of You, Am I Blue, A Love Supreme, I Get Along Without You Very Well, Russian Lullaby, Night and Day. Hozier's a ridiculously good lyricist - yeah, he writes some bangers, but when you pick apart the lyrics it opens up an entirely different level to the song. I would strongly suggest Jackboot Jump, Work Song, and Dinner & Diatribes. :)

I honestly believe he's one of the best songwriters ever. He's so intelligent when he speaks and it definitely translates to his music.

I have had the same thoughts about singing along with Hozier. Then I listened to his song "To Noise Making (Sing)" and got over it.

no-one seems to pick up on how sad the lyrics are to almost (sweet music). It's about moving on from a relationship, starting anew and that pang when you really just miss the other person. You've moved on, you can laugh again, you've got a bit of colour back. And then you hear that song, the person you're with laughs like she did, you get by fine most nights but just not this one and you're doubting yourself and trying to hide it from the other person. took a while for that song to really click into place for me. it's all bittersweet.

For a bit of. Different feel, I would recommend Arsonist’s Lullaby and Jackboot Jump. Also, Nina Cried Power is not to be missed. Extremely powerful stuff.

@marian Cahill The " Live for World Cafe" version of Shrike is amazing. His accent comes through fairly strongly and manages to elevate an already beautiful song to a mind blowing level. I definitely recommend checking it out if you haven't heard it already.
