Just replaced mine with a Screen Surgeons unit, so far looks great. Three things: first, watch this video, read the comments below, and check other postings around the Net, it will help you out. This screen replacement task wasn't difficult, but there are a lot of moments that something can break very quickly. I'm experienced with this kind of stuff, but would still call this a 2 banana job because of the risky moments. Second - hinge covers. I removed the bezel without removing the hinge covers, but it was tricky and took some careful bending and jiggling around. After I finished the screen replacement, I couldn't see a good way to get the bezel back on without removing the hinge covers. With the bezel off, it was still a little tricky to get them off even though there are now loose, I pulled them off from outside the unit with the lid mostly closed, they came out the rear. TheOnlyRick's comment below is THE trick to get them back on. I used a flat rectangle cut from the clamshell plastic that many things are sold in, then inserted from the rear, then slid the hinge covers on from the rear but only after I had re-attached the bezel. Third - I found that the two screws at the bottom of the bezel, in the first step, were star/Torx T8. NOT phillips head. Has anyone else seen that?

Thanks, very helpful. Maybe I could have done the whole thing without removing the hinge covers (at first I forgot to loosen the screws that hold the hinges to the screen assembly), but I ended up removing the hinge covers anyway. What I wasn't expecting was how hard it would to put them on afterwards! What happens is that as you push them in, the bottom clasp of the hinge cover catches on something within the hinge mechanism. So I cut a thin rectangle of an old credit card, and put it into the hinge (from underneath the laptop) so that as I push in the hinge cover the card smooths over whatever the cover was catching on before, and it easily slides into place (with the laptop screen fully open).

I want to replace the hinges of my laptop because the right hinge cover broke off from the laptop so it would no longer snap on and as i looked it seems as if the right hinge is rusty and is preventing me from closing the screen. What should i do? or perhaps show me sometime ?

Great video! I am experiencing some serious flickering from my screen depending on which angle it's tilted - do you know what that may be caused by? I'm thinking it shouldn't be anything wrong with the screen, but maybe some cables have gotten stuck somewhere or something like that. I have the HP ProBook 4330s
@gige758 жыл бұрын
can you please tell me how did you manage to solve the problem, i experience the same thing on same model 4330s? is the problem with the display cable, or you find that the display is faulty?

you can actually perform this procedure without removing the hinge covers. the bottom edge of the bezel can be loosened so that it tilts forward but not completely removed. the side bracket screws can still be accessed. it's not quite as easy as with the hinge covers off but it certainly saves ruined hinge covers. the private school i do tech work for has 20 of these units so experience is talking here.

To everyone - this is THE trick to get the hinge covers back on. The bottom clasp of the cover is catching on the seam between the bottom and top of the main laptop case. Using TheOnlyRick's process gets you past that seam without catching. I read his comment before tackling the replacement, and so was prepared to look for this when the hinge covers were catching exactly like he says. All thumbs up to Rick!

It's almost IMPOSSIBLE to get the hinge covers back if you're following this procedure. To all, I strongly recommend downloading the HP ProBook 4530S service manual (a google search will get you to it), and follow the official procedure of screen replacement recommended by HP. It will take a little longer than this, and it will be a bit more of an "invasive surgery", but trust me, unless you're scared of removing a lot of screws, the official procedure is actually a LOT safer than this and the chances of damaging something is a lot less as everything will come off easily without you having to apply excessive force to pry open the hinge covers, weird "tricks" like loosening the hinge screws and pulling on the screen to reveal the side mounting bracket screws, tricks to put the hinge covers back in, etc. I can't believe the tech guru who made this video doesn't understand the concept that physical strength and electronics are mutually incompatible partners. The moment you realize you're applying too much force to remove a part or install it back, you should understand you're doing it wrong. Like my computer teacher once told me in my school years, "Shortcuts may cut short your life".

Other than having to replace HP's defective 320 GB HD 3 times within the 1-yr warranty period (before wising-up and buying a Toshiba 500 GB replacement), this laptop has been a workhorse since purchase in 2011.A big complaint - shared by many in reviews - is the LED display appears 'washed-out': 'max' brightness is only attained at a very-narrow viewing angle.Comparing this 'matte' screen finish to the 'crystal' display on all MacBooks is like night and day. I wasn't aware of any 'crystal' display option with the ProBook 4530s.My question: do you know of a 'crystal' screen replacement that would upgrade the display to greater sharpness and brightness?

I have to disagree with you; You can in fact put the hinges back on without pulling the whole laptop apart, with no damage to them (they are made of a strong plastic, and can be bent...to an extent, obviously) - you just need to be very careful with doing so. Source: Myself - just did a screen change on a ProBook 4540s (same physical layout). :)

This video helped me a TON, but I will say this. The fact it entirely skips the reassembly process is a huge disappointment on otherwise a good tutorial. The camera needs to be better too as a lot of the sounds I was hearing did not match what I was trying to actually do off screen. My laptop has suffered a bit of damage (the hinges only actually, which fortunately decided to remount after some fiddling, but will never be the same) but nonetheless, it's better than having an no laptop at all.

Don't use a flathead screwdriver on a screen bezel or any other plastic part unless you want to mar the plastic. Use a plastic "spudger" tool or an old credit card that you don't mind detroying!
