Forgiveness doesn't need to be learned, or practiced. It happens when we are willing to LET GO even without accepting or understanding the other. We let go because it is the path to getting the life we want, because we want peace, and a life filled with love. Letting go is important for everyone, but it is critical for HSPs. Holding on to grudges, resentments, and grievances is toxic to us. It can affect our bodies and lead to chronic illness. It is a baseline a overstimulation and gets us close to a state of overwhelm.

I have had toxic people in my life. It’s not healthy for me to be around them. Even if I let go, I cannot be near these people because I feel the rage building.

I understand that. All situations are different. The letting go can include not seeing them. We know in our hearts what is right for us in our specific circumstances.

I resonate with what you say about can’t be with near and dear who have dismissed me excluded me and bring out the worst in me .this has a chain reaction of guilt and rage and frustration in me which lasts for many days in my mind it is toxic for my mental health

Thank you for this. It takes off the pressure off me for having the need to forgive as if it's a coercion, instruction or demand, but rather being open to letting go and not holding on to grudges that can literally kill us. Having the humility to say "I don't know, but I am willing to let the trauma go for the sake of myself." The healing starts from making that decision and being open to letting nature and God take the course, and we don't have to force ourselves to learn or master forgiveness. Who knows? Lasting or even permanent healing and recovery can happen that way.

I completely agree. Forgiveness should certainly never a a task, a chore, a "have to", except for the sake of our own peace and health. Thanks for sharing :)

Thanks for sharing 🙏 I like the idea that forgiveness doesn’t have to be a process, not something to learn how to do. 💚

I'm connected with my older sister. I didn't agree with her life style. I thought she was making herself unhappy. It annoyed me and I told her she made the wrong choices. She didn't appreciate that and stopped talking to me. Then I realized I was wrong. I should have minded my own business and be pleasant to her. Show her love instead of judging her. So I wrote her a letter, apologized, told her I was so sorry about my stupid , arrogant attitude. Could she please forgive me. And she did. We both have trauma's from our childhood which are still effecting us. But we deal with it differently. I don't judge anymore. I just love her and support her. So, I was proud of the way I handled it. With love. But my younger sister is toxic. She lives in a different country. I decided to be nice and I mailed her. How are you? What's your life like. And right away she mailed me back with some nasty comments. She was like that when she was 13. And she's still the same. She gets pleasure out of patronizing others, judging her family. Calls me neurotic because of my HSP. So I'm done with her. I gave her my love and she steps on my heart. Still, 60 years later. She thinks she's the most intelligent person in the family. But she will never learn. . ❤

I had this experience after my husband was killed by a driver who was speeding while travelling northbound over into the southbound lane. I got stuck in the word ‘forgiveness’ as it had religious teachings that were weighted, didn’t fit w my real life experience. It was a process that came down to what would take away my pain? How many tickets? Jail time? Releasing him is what set me free and allowed Love to flow. Do I revisit it? At times. But I remember that I have a choice to carry bitterness and a desire for punishment/justice, or to live freely. Thank you for this enlight🕊ening sharing, Annie🌟💛✨
