From their 1984 album "Sports" this was a hit for the band, making it to Number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100's. The message of the song is Rock and Roll is everywhere, not just Los Angeles or New York. Just a great melody and great sax solo with Huey's so enjoyable vocals. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Jami. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

I was in my 20s when he/they were big, & just loved 'em! Great choice! I love your analysis of the old-time R&R living on in many forms --I've been listening to this song for decades & didn't grok that. You rock, blessing to you!

As you might think when he did this song in concert, the point in the song where he yells “Detroit”, he would substitute the name of the city he was in knowing the crowd would cheer wildly for their town.

anyone that loves huey needs to watch the movie 'duets' also with paul giamatti in one of his best roles. huey plays a hustler on the karaoke contest circuit - coming in as an unknown and blowing everyone off the stage and winning the competitions. andre braugher is a tragic character who hooks up with giamatti and insanity ensues. an underrated flick that really needs to be seen. 5 stars

Yeah, they had a plan. R&B based, radio-friendly songs, synthesizers, skinny ties and sax solos. Huey Lewis and the News are on the short list of my favorite San Francisco bands after The Grateful Dead. Journey, The Tubes, Santana, CCR, etc.

This has parts that sound ever similar to fifties style rock and roll. He pines for that sound - the heart. Eight sounds were getting far from that early sound. If you were attending concerts in mid to late eighties you likely saw Huey Lewis he played everywhere. Saw him three times myself. The oddest place being in Houston 1989 on top of a section of highway overpass that the authorities were celebrating it’s completion by having a Huey Lewis free concert there.

Jami A - This Huey classic is excellent submission. Huey Lewis and The News is, in my opinion, one of the greatest Rock bands. "The Heart of Rock and Roll"...couldn't have come up with a better descriptor for them. Awesome review, Harri!

That's dead on you nailed it at 2:15, well deduced; The Heart of Rock and Roll is still beating, even through the absurdity of the over stylized New York Music Scene they were making fun of in the verse before the chorus.

That's alright stuff! Hewey and the boys, they know what they're talking about. Hewey Lewis was/is one of my music heros. In the midst of other tunes by other people, going in a certain musical direction that I didn't like, Hewey and co. came to the rescue, to remind me that some acts were still playing music that was alive.

Great group from the 80's-90's. They had a lot of great hits such as "Do You Believe In Love", "Workin' For A Livin'", "Heart & Soul", "I Want A New Drug," "If This Is It", "Stuck With You", "Jacob's Ladder," "Hip To Be Square" etc.
