Wow, what a haul! Half of these albums I didn't even know existed. I love all the covers of the bootlegs but my favorite is at 9:45 - has their logo in the shape of a guitar - like the Monkees :) Great video, Joe!

Hello, Joe, I've been subscribed to your channel for a considerably long time. Congrats for the channel's success! I'm a huge admirer of your priceless collection and your commentaries, for sure! But as much as I am awed with how well you preserve the covers in their shrink wraps, I am shocked that you slide your records out and in of their paper sleeves. Have you considered migrating your vinyl disks into polysleeves to prevent scuffing and hairline scratching of your precious records? You can still keep the original paper inners inside the jacket, so nothing will be lost. The polysleeves will cost, but I think they will be well worth the expense. Just my humble suggestion.
@MeanMrMayo
@MeanMrMayo 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I do believe that poly sleeves are gentler for records, but it may surprise you to hear me say that I am also fine with paper sleeves. I don't believe they're as harmful to records as some say, though of course the poly ones are even better. It's just not enough of a concern to me. I don't believe records would have been sold in paper sleeves for over 100 years, if they were truly harmful.

Just friggin fantastic......I can't even imagine what that ride out there was like for you.....and as you get to the store, and then there is that walk to the door. That excitement is very hard to capture, and only us geeks can experience. Then the ride home remembering what you just bought, and when you stop at a red light, you peek at a few. Killer stuff!
@MeanMrMayo
@MeanMrMayo 8 жыл бұрын
FlipSideCT - Hey Steve, you hit it all squarely on the head! Yup, I can still see the impending doorway and recall the rush as I was first walking toward the shop, over-anxious to get to the treasures! And yes, I did try to sneak a look at random albums on the way home during the drive! It was a very hot day and I had the albums in two bags on the passenger front seat; it was extremely hot, so I had the air conditioner on, trying to keep the records cool!

I am so glad you ended up with this haul Joe. The reason being that once the contents of this particular collection were revealed online, the first person I thought of who would actually have interest in this type of Beatles vinyl would've been you. So it's good that so many of these records found there way to a good home because to be quite honest the word I've gotten back from the Beatles collecting world was that a lot of collectors were passing this particular lot up for various reasons and the records weren't moving as briskly as expected once the blue chip items like the butchers or the Let It Be box were snapped up pretty early on in the game. Again I am so happy that you were able to put this all together for yourself as sometimes a honey hole opens up geared to a specific collector's taste or needs and this one was yours my friend. Cheers! PS: The story on the collection is that it comes from a gentleman who used to work at that particular shop and sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago. From what I've read online about this guy is he was always someone who tried to help out collectors at the shop and see that they got good deals. If that is true, well as I said part of his collection has found a good home.
@MeanMrMayo
@MeanMrMayo 8 жыл бұрын
jldraw - Great comment! Well, I am certainly relieved that it turned out that most Beatles collectors were apparently uninterested in the particular records that I wanted! I really did get just about everything I wanted on this trip, though if I had more money some other time and could return in a month or so, I suppose there are other second-tier albums I would add -- if they're still there. Thanks for explaining the specifics of the collector who passed away.. I feel extra good now that he might have been happy to think his vinyl went to a good place with me.
@jldraw

There are so many great stories about a lot of these records that have been written about in various books. The title (and the reason why Ringo) appears on the cover of "Code Name Russia" according to author Doug Sulpy is that when The Beatles went on tour in the sixties, they would often travel under pseudonyms with each Beatle being identified by a specific country. George Harrison was identified as FRANCE, Ringo Starr as RUSSIA and so on and so forth. So I remember reading that whenever a particular member of the group would want to move from his current station a message would be sent down saying something like "Russia Is On The Move" which meant that Ringo wanted out of the hotel room. So that's "Code Name Russia"!

OK Joe! I just watched the whole video. I still remember how out of control I was when I visited the store and saw that they put up over 1000+ Beatles records in the New Arrivals section. I recognize a bunch of these Records from my trip there last Monday including the BBC Bootlegs. My Father has some of those Beeb Bootlegs on both Vinyl and CD. I love the cover of the Beeb Vol. 5 album. That photo was on my Dad's CD Copy. I wish I brought all those Beeb records but I was on a tight budget at the time of my visit. I got paid the Friday after I came back from the trip.I recognized both of the Sessions albums. I don't remember pulling out the Best Of The Beatles and seeing Pete's autograph on the back. The Solo albums I recognized too.Awesome update and thanks for the shoutout. I thought I you while I was browsing through the records at the store. I was I like "I Need To Call Joe!" I'm glad I did! Great finds. FYI on Beatlemania; Did you know there were three variants on the initial pressings of this LP? Also, did you know that Beatlemania was the first Beatles album released by Capitol records in North America, Nov 25, 1963? Yours looks like one of the first two pressings. If the jacket inner seams are curved then it is the very first pressing. If the inner seams are straight then it is the second pressing from March/April 1964. The inner sleeve is absolutely correct for pressing up to 1966. By the way, the third of the initial pressing is quite unique. The 6th and 7th tracks on side 2 are unbanded, meaning you can't see where one ends and the other begins.

@MeanMrMayo
@MeanMrMayo 8 жыл бұрын
George Martin had not liked Pete Best's drumming, which is part of the reason why The Beatles got rid of him and asked Ringo to join. Martin was not yet confident with Ringo and so he hired a "professional session drummer" (White) when they were about to record their first single. Ringo was not nervous at all and wanted to play, and it took him awhile to get over it. (Some have said it still bothers him to this day).

Hey Joe , great score on the BBC volumes. They are without a doubt some of my favorite bootlegs of all time. Since I collect CDs, I have the BBC Yellow Dog Box set that was released in 2003 . It contains 12 vols. with the same artwork as the vinyl edition. The vinyl set first saw released in 1983 and ironically was produced by Mr. Yellow Dog before the days of the CD. I always loved vol. 7 because it contains the 5th Birthday show of Saturday Club. In addition to containing a killer version of "Lucille" , special guests The Everly Brothers perform live in the BBC studio. Its a great record. Thanks for another entertaining video.

Nice copy of russian Hard Day's Night! I usually find them in terrible thin cardbord sleeves, all beat up and stuff. The copy from my collection is similiar to yours, but the colors are darker. That's the thing about melodia, you can find all sorts of versions of one album, made out of diffirent materials, with different colors and with different sound quality. If you are interested, there also exists a very rare 2LP version of russian Hard Day's Night. First LP is regular Hard Day's night, second is Taste of Honey, a USSR-only Beatles compilation. The compilation was also released separately, and is very easy to find in that form. The sound quality is amazing on both releases, btw.

Did they have any of the "Lost Lennon" boots? Those along with the "BEEB" and "Ultra Rare Trax" series are probably the best quality Beatles bootlegs ever released on vinyl. A lot of the other, especially earlier releases suffered from noisy vinyl and mediocre sound quality. But at least the covers look cool! For Beatles bootleg listening I actually prefer the CD versions for convenience and lack of surface noise. But the three series I mentioned are exceptional.

Wow you got The Last Temptation Of Elvis LP, I've wanted that for such a long time, the 1st song I ever heard from that album was Got A Lot Of Livin' To Do by The Pogues, I've never seen that LP before, its got to be pretty rare I should think.

I have a copy of that _Behind Closed Doors_ boot somewhere. In spite of the "These songs are STEREO!" blurb on the cover, the songs are very hissy mono.

Hey Joe! Some great finds there. I own the ''Wings Live In Tokyo'' as well. I Bought it many years ago at BeatleFest in Chicago. I've always wondered what the story was with that. Maybe they took the audio from some of the 79' U.K. shows and mixed it with the proper, but fake, audience sounds.

The Beatles Second Album was not issued in Canada until 1967. The one you have there looks like it could be a 1968 pressing, but that's going on the quick view of the jacket I saw in the video. There were about five variations from 1967 to 1969 that had the rainbow label.

Great. That would put at at the second run. There is no difference in the record, but the jacket was made by a different manufacturer than those used on the first pressings. I'm thinking of starting a channel similar to yours where I can talk about the different Canadian pressings that are available. Its really interesting stuff once you get into it.

Ummm.... errr.... uhhh... I am not very literate when it comes to this stuff. I use a small point and shoot Nikon Coolpix camera. My girlfriend set me up with how to do it four years ago.. I just plug the camera into the computer, upload the video onto my desktop, and then drag the video down from the desktop and into the KZbin "upload". Sorry I can't be more specific!

The Beatles 'Very Together' cover was indeed designed by them as part of their 1969 disclosure process. Have you seen George Martin's official Coat of Arms? Look it up. It's a shield with 3 white stag-beetles, and a white tire track. The white tire track is said to represent Paul. Just as the white VW Beetle on the Abbey Road cover represents Paul. With a number '3' hidden in the trees to the left of George on the crossing.

I was watching the part of the Anthology that featured a few songs from Shea Stadium. The screaming was so prominent, yet - here is the really odd thing I noticed- when you look at the many crowd shots, it seems like the audience were mostly enjoying the music, talking among themselves, etc. I didn't see nobody screaming they heads off, which leads me to believe that aside from the documented music overdubs, there was also crowd noises overdubbed to the film. When the complete Shea Stadium film is released, I'm going to give it an intense study.
@MeanMrMayo
@MeanMrMayo 8 жыл бұрын
Well, those particular shots consist of different times and moments throughout the event. Trust me, I know two people who went to the actual concert in 1965 and can confirm that they couldn't hear a thing due to all the screams! The actual songs themselves were re-recorded over in the studio for the film!
@trustmeimblack1620
@trustmeimblack1620 8 жыл бұрын
I don't doubt that there was screams at the concert, I'm just wondering that age-old question: WAS IT LIVE, OR WAS IT MEMOREX? (Cue "Feel So Good" by Chuck Mangione!)
@MeanMrMayo
@MeanMrMayo 8 жыл бұрын
Of course it was real/live. The Beatles themselves always said they couldn't hear what they were playing due to the deafening screams. In the Shea film you can see a cop placing his hands over his ears due to the screams.

Good haul, I kind of wondered if you paid less than what I did, when the albums originally were released. That "Sgt. Pepper" that you showed is an album called "Foretaste". With the exception of the acetate of "A Day in the Life" is a collection of fakes. The "Posters..." had the same stuff as on "Kum Back". A boot that I have called "An Immaculate Conception" contains a version of "Dig It" which I thought had Yoko on it, actually had Heather doing her thing on it (Probably from George on the BBC in March 1970). On the long, unedited version, of "Dig It" you can hear John say "Sounds like Yoko". I wonder what jJohn's life would be like if he hadn't got involved w/Yoko or if she did not abandon her divorce paper that was filed on July 28, 1980. After John's death, she didn't waste time moving in Sam Havadtoy & that he was seen wearing John's clothes.
@MeanMrMayo
@MeanMrMayo 8 жыл бұрын
matt S - John said Yoko saved him from a kind of death, and that's a good thing. Whether some fans like it or not, Yoko was exactly what John both wanted and needed. This is not a Yoko bashing channel, but whatever.

Hi Joe, in another video you confessed that you mainly listen to music in your car. This brings up the question why you collect lps. A related question is why you want to own copies with the shrink wrap on and/orwith a hype sticker. What do you do with these things? Isn't it about the music? What's the point of owning multiple copies of the same album anyway? Once you've established what your go-to issue is going to be, couldn't you just as well get rid of the other issues? Your music room is full anyway. And all of those cool LP covers can be marveled at online. Why did you get rid of your original LP collection? And why are you bying them again? What do you DO with your possessions, other then showing them on KZbin? Do you often sit in your music room, surrounded by your beloved objects, feeling happy that you own all of them? Is that satisfying? Will you ever own enough? What's your goal?

When I got my first CD player in 1986 I was so thrilled with that new medium that I had no need for records, so I sold them. Then in 2011 I caught the vinyl bug, and now 10 years after I have re-acquired 99% of my records, even in better shape than before. The shrinkwrap and hype stickers preserve that look of them appearing as brand new as the day they were placed on the store shelves. The reason I play music on CDs mainly in the car is because I live in an apartment with very thin walls, and don't want to disturb my neighbors. I do occasionally play records here, however I have to play them lower than I'd like. But my goal is to move out of state and into a private house one day, hopefully no later than 2023 or 2024. I don't care that my room is full now, as when I move it will not be an issue. The bottom line is that I derive joy from what I do, and I am unconcerned as to whether or not others understand.
