Okay that bucket saw some rough times during the recording of that video. At first, around 3 minutes, only one chunk is missing from the rim. Then later, at 7:30, multiple pieces missing. At the end, 22:30, the bucket basically has no more rim. I love your videos Matt! I've been following you since before you bought the butter boat and even then.. so it was fun to hear you say BUTTER like this again hahaha!!

Hey, you guys not a pro but here’s a pro tip as far as snaring goes after your snair has been casted and is sitting at the bottom of the water take up all of your slack set your Rod in a pole holder at 12 o’clock directly straight up make sure you take out all the slack in the line the crab the are greedy, they will try to pull the snar away for themselves when they do the tip of your pool will indicate that movement every time I live on the coast and Crab three times a week. I’m telling you keep the slack out of this fishing pole and keep your eye on the tip of the pole. It works every time.

The crab meat looks awesome and I really enjoy the video, just wanted to also comment on the rice pudding, my mom learned from here grandmother how to make it and I can still remember eating my great grandmothers recipe as a child and adult in my early twenties before she passed how much I love rice pudding. And if anyone is wondering, I realize it is a simple dish but there are several ways to ruin a good rice pudding.

Pro tip: add the crab butter to your seasoned butter. Adds so much flavor without being to over powering when eating crab butter by itself. Even people that don't like crab butter love the combination as it just enhances the flavor of the crab meat. Also a crab with barnacles means it isn't a soft shell. The barnacles take time to develop ensuring that the meat inside will be nice, full and firm. I'd take a barnacled crab over a clean one.

I'm not in the Bay Area anymore but man, I made some good memories at spots you mentioned in the beginning. Also, pro tip, some of the rocks in that specific area can be used as a makeshift knife. Some of it is chert and it's really sharp on any fresh broken edges.

The longer the period of swell, the faster the swell is moving. That’s why long period swells have so much energy. Say you have a powerful storm with high winds 800 miles offshore. There will be gusty winds, etc. Assuming the storm never impacts your area directly, the waves will still hit your shore. The longest period swells always hit first because they are traveling the fastest.

Best crab rod I have found is the 12’ Okuma Solaris Surf SSX rod (SSX-S-1202H). A bit pricey and one of the rod sections is 7ft but it’s rated for up to 16oz. Not going to snap a rod tossing 16oz. I’ve tried with max send.
