A lot of Warlord Games' writing team are former GW writers, makes sense, a ton of the modern rules for Bolt Action are very familiar to older editions of 40k

I’m actually happy the British are losing their free artillary observer because now I might actually be able to bring an air observer for them. It’s kind of weird that because of how the allowance worked a faction with one of the most active air forces in the war, barely ever used it.

The 'no free unit' rule would also nerf the French too. In their current rules they get get a 2nd arrtillery piece free after buying the first and can have another conscript squad after taking a certain nummber of conscript squad

the french get a free artillery piece period. there was no requirement to purchase a first one. the free infantry squad required you to purchase three beforehand

Snap to activating 2 units is great with the new artiller platoon.... get you officer into position, tow your ATG into position, next turn, deploy the ATG, with the tow between the ATG and their tank..... your first die next turn, snap to, move tow out the way and pop their tank with +1 to hit.... while the new vehicle down/reverse rule is very interesting.... that king tiger with low fuel has just reversed, so it's moved, so has to make a fuel check, potentially immobilising it where the owner doesn't want a pillbox.

Yeah, I'm a bit the other way. The effect of pins are nerfed with regards to shooting (so a unit lugging 8 or 9 pins around still only -1 to hit) and if passing the 'now' easier to pass Morale test and the result is that pins are now 'all' auto cleared it means that pinning out a unit just likely will happen even less than before, because as soon as you've used 5 or 6 units in a turn to pile on pins on units they will just rally them off, meaning there's now no point nearly. In second Ed the trade off for having to shoot so many units at one was that they would compound to being even less and less effective, now although pins generally are easier to put on their effect is less and they can be gotten rid of easier. The key defining aspect of BA is that it ismt all about kills, it's about pinning too. To nerf those effects is just nuts to me. I'll obviously revisit these options once I've played the game for a year and got some perspective on it as we all will, just my 2 penneth.....

Version 2 you *can* have a moral value over 10, but rolling an 11 or 12 is *always* a failure. So if you have a veteran finish squad at half strength it is leadership 11, so rolling a 10 when it has 1 pin is a pass.

Conscripts will likely be replaced with cheaper units overall or bigger units Brit observer maybe be replaced with the officer of an arty unit being an observer.

I liked having the 4 different officers, but I get the desire to streamline. Going to miss my free observer, but he probably was a little too good. Really like the new rally.

Yeah, the streamlined officers do put me out a little, I liked the feeling of "oh, I can fit in a First Lt. In my list!"

All these changes sound fine, I just hope this is it. I quit playing the warhammer games in 2007 because I was angry over the constant rules changes and I don't want Bolt action to go down that same road.

Wothlit wanting to sound negative all the time the no more free units is great, having played against my mate that uses French has 2 free units was a real grind and my only free stuff of 3 Assault Rifles on my HQ just didn't really seem to even the playing field. Points should be the adjustment for 'free' stuff and abilities/ national traits. Officers condensed down to 2 types fits well with the new force selection structure. I always enjoyed the free Snap to that Germans got over other nations, that's evened out a bit now it seems, but hey ho. I hope they tweak Assaults to take in to account units having pins on them, never made sense to me that they didn't have an effect. Vehicles backing off table is right, a similar mechanism for infantry would be good, nearest you'd get is on a Fubar but seeing as most infantry moves forward that'll likely rarely happen. Hopeful for the new game ticking more boxes

I was going to buy a french army but i am not sure now . Because if they cannot get the extra artillery. They be un playable. Would like to know your guys thoughts. I just started playing. With my buddy stuff . Was thinking a french army would be great because everyone all ready has a faction. The french have very little in anti tank so ?
