I was at an event in the Parliamentary offices some 11 or so years ago celebrating Simon Hughes' 35 years as an MP. Hugh Grant was the speaker and was brilliant. Funny, self-deprecating and relaxed, speaking with no notes, I was very impressed. He had us all in stitches with an allegedly true story..... that as a young teenager he had a poster on his wall of Simon Hughes.......astride a motor bike........naked....... He completely won over the room with his delivery and timing. Top class.

The whole speech is actually a very British way of praising Curtis and his work. The idea is that you insult the person as a way of showing your affection for them. Brits do this a lot. There is a fine line and you really have to "get" it, but Hugh did it perfectly. Sarcasm doesn't always translate too well, though, so there is that.
