@@Stealth17Gaming If you'd like advice on what to do, a good recommendation is to not be conservative with your own torps. Especially if you feel like a ship is about to die, you may as well spread its torpedoes out, and maybe you'll at least spook the sub into doing something silly. And submarines can't shoot while moving at high speed, so if you're forcing it to maneuver violently, you have a window of opportunity to close in for depth charge attacks

Sprint and drift works best if at least one ship is drifting and listening while the other/s sprint to the new position. This way at least one ship is always listening under best circumstances.
@rambojohn272727Ай бұрын
Im not sure if you mentioned this, but I think when you are dodging torpedoes with noise makers, you need to go full ahead flank at a 90 degree angle to the torpedo, drop a couple of noise makers while on that bearing, then turn all the way around and slow down to at least half speed, and slow down more the closer it gets in order to lower your ship noise compared to the noise makers. Once the torpedo passes you, turn back towards the sub at half speed and slowly increase speed the further away you are from the torpedo. When you are advancing, you can go full ahead flank at a 15 degree angle to the target, then after about 2 to 5 min, drop a noise maker, turn 30 degrees the other direction and drop speed to half to fool the sub into thinking your still going the other direction.

As amusing as it is to see an SSN go to town on a bunch of unsuspecting skimmers, some things you missed (that im sure other people have already pointed out): -the RBUs can be used to engage torpedoes. while not perfect since it's not really what they were designed for, it's more effective than doing nothing -the Krivak is equipped with 4 SS-N-14 Silex Anti-ship/Anti-submarine missiles that fly to a point and drop a torpedo there, just like a helicopter (although without the sonar). in the first playthrough when you had a rough idea of the sub's position, you could've dropped a couple of those on it, and in the last mission when you were out of torpedoes -the traditional thing to do in ASW upon detection of a torpedo is to snapshot one of your torpedoes down the bearing of the enemy torpedo. it's like an automatic response in the event of detecting a torpedo

Good fights. Idk how accurate the Mk48's are supposed to be, but noisemakers may not fool the operator behind the wire. After the wire, it can still track, but easier to fool. Your idea about a preemptive torp launch was a good one. That's definitely a form for counter battery fire. I'd suggest next time only have one ship pinging active, and once you find a faint signal, go active in another ship to reduce ambiguity, if there is any. The third ship should be further away and read to go in for the kill. Active sonar is a magnet for subs and their torps. Again though, idk how accurate the game will get.

@nickdubil90Ай бұрын
I'm not sure exactly how SP models it, but I know in CMANO/Command for instance, passive ships can pick up the reflections of a an active ship's sonar search. So in theory you could have a closer, passive listening ship with better sonar, and a somewhat further-away active ship banging away from a different angle, and pick up the enemy closer to your own detection range that way.
@DyingCr0wАй бұрын
No way to know to what extent the simulation goes, at this point, but why not? In this situation with no helicopters, go into line formation to mask the noise of numbers. Ping once, wait, ping many, turn perpendicular to the predicted sub's position, switch to column formation. Drop a torpedo or 2, go flank for a minute. Bluffing tactics. Maybe the sub will make a mistake. Slow down and drop the towed array. No ship's propellers will get in the way then.

I think dropping noisemakers preemptively is a bad idea, it depends on how they've modelled passive sonar, because IRL i imagine you will *completetly* drown out your own passive sonar when those things start screaming. To be fair, though, I can't see this mission being doable without heavy losses, without cheesing it in some way
@GutkowskiMarekАй бұрын
This made me wonder. So far all the missions are just that, a scenario that has the same starting point for all units. The replayability of those is small. By the time I get the game, I'll likely know all the starting positions and just cheese it by dropping SS-N-14 torps on where the sub is. I wonder how difficult it would be to have a random mission generator. Just having the sub spawn in random location would help a lot with replayability. But we all know even if it is not in the vanilla game it will be modded soon after.
@Stealth17GamingАй бұрын
Yes, this is why the devs have asked us not to show any more scenarios, beyond what we've already recorded. I'm making my own scenarios now, which you'll start seeing end of the week/early next week. In the scenarios you can have probabilities of things happening, such as lower chances of units spawning in. That makes replayability better.
