I am native german and can say that this is one of the better performances of german language.. of course he has an american accent, but if you take it in this exmaple, the butcher lives already 30 years in america undercover and after this long period i would also have an american accent. For example the word "überall" (when he says "wir sind überall") is well spoken and the letters "Ü,Ä,Ö" are very hard to pronounce for americans..

Understanding the reason why people like watching this stuff ... even fictitious imaginings of no-regret violence ... is one of the main keys to unlocking the human condition. There were several other ways to defuse the situation, but at 1:43 or so when he drops the facade, you can almost see the relief on his face as he grabs the gun. Like he said, he never liked that life, and merely by his expression you can see that he's glad for the excuse. That's great acting!

yeah he plays his role pretty good. The only thing which is not that good is his german. And that's kind of annoying if you play a german guy. But to be fair I must say that even my grand aunt who is german and lives now over 50 years in the states, can't speak perfect german anymore. She has a liitle amarican accent now (not as bad as he has) and just know half of all german words meanwhile) So it's really not that unreal to forget your mother tongue and the way you speak it.

You can when they are two separate scenarios. The setting for the meltdown was to expose a murderer. The setting immediately changed when said murderer comically dropped everyone in attendance including his wife and three children so he could have a private intimidating conversation with a woman. The setting for the tough talk is someone who knows they're dead and doesn't want to give their killer the satisfaction. Not so much "bad writing" as it is limited viewer analysis.

I like this scene. What starts out as a backyard family BBQ a place where you feel safe warm and welcome. Quickly turns to into fear and dread. The feeling of being all alone with the bad guy. Completely helpless.
