In mainland Greek we call someone a donkey as a soft insult, mainly referring to people who don't care about others. Also we say that someone has the patience of a donkey if they are very patient. And another greek saying for when people don't appreciate things is " they gifted someone a donkey and he looked it at the teeth"

It is very unfair to say that there are no true Cypriots - unfair to those people who have been living there since the dawn of civilization. These people might have links to Greeks but they are the true Cypriots. The Turks have only occupied the land for a few hundred years. What Rauf is trying to do here is to reduce the connection the Cypriots have with Cyprus because he knows the Turks have a much lesser connection to this land as compared with the Cypriots. This is a contentious topic but I can see what stratagem he is using to justify the Turks control on Cyprus.

I've been following him since his early days, and I generally enjoy his content very much. I don't blame anyone from the so-called "western world" for not being as open to the Turkish side's argument as they are to the Greek one. Sadly, this is and perhaps has always been the case. Unlike Greece or Armenia, Turkey has never been a good PR country with a vast diaspora supporting its causes via lobbies abroad. Fun fact, the Turks usually take pride in being right; even everyone else in the room argues otherwise. Before quickly calling people euro-/western-cunt, the Turks need to tell their story through academic research, art, and popular culture.

Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I happened to be aboard a Turkish Maritime Lines ship en route from Barcelona to Istanbul in 1974 when the Cypriot War broke out. In fact, we were on our way to the last stop (Athens) when the war ensued. "Mebbe we get boomed, boomed" said one of the crew, jokingly....Needless to say, we skipped that last port and headed directly to Istanbul...It was the most memorable sea trip I ever made partying up with the crew nightly after they finished for the day...and when we hit Istanbul , they took us around to sites most visitors wouldn't see...It was both delightful and debilitating cause those guys could play hard! A unique experience , indeed to see the area through their eyes. ps. I adore donkeys! At the time they were the "taxis" on the island of Gavdos south of Crete.

I have really been enjoying the docuseries so far! This one about the donkeys is definitely interesting. I am not sure what the point of the video was though. You make a lot claims about the donkeys being invasive, but there were no interviews with farmers or data of crop loss due to donkeys in Cypress in your video. You also claim that the people in northern and southern Cypress feel very strongly about protecting the donkeys, but there was little citation or data to back this up (like the parliament footage, or lack of interviews with locals, etc.). I would love to see more citations and interviews in your future work to help me better understand the stories you tell. Looking forward to the next video!

I'm getting a lot of difference in volume, Johnny. The voice over parts seem quiet and then on-location stuff is REALLY loud!

I lived in Cyprus for years. However, never knew about the wild donkeys. I have visited the donkey sanctuary though. I will take my son to see them when I’m next over there.

Someone: Greeks and Turks: *YOU WHAT?!*
@dimitrispvoice1332 жыл бұрын
haha nice, but please, we are Cypriots, not Greeks or Turks. There is a big misconception about what was happening 60 years ago and how are things now. No one in Cyprus calls himself merely Greek since it would mean a person from Greece. It's either Cypriot or greek Cypriot (to specify). There are plenty of actual Turks though in the north since the time they invaded.

We have a statue of a dog down south that's a tribute to the animal for it's roll in building NZ, agriculture was our biggest export and without dog's we never could have ran the sheep, that produced the wool, that provided a significant portion of the nz economy.

Have in mind that the so-called founder of Northern Cyprus Rauf Denktaş once said: We and the Greeks are two different peoples. There is no Cypriot identity. The only cypriot thing that exists is the cypriot donkey!
@seriesmovies41952 жыл бұрын
And he’s right. The term ‘Cypriot’ was created by the Brits to divide the Greeks and Turks from their mainland.

So rather than talking about the Turkish Cypriot perspective you are talking about how animals are affected by conflict ? And you call yourself a journalist ?

This guy keeps parroting "TURKEY INVADED..." as if they invaded for no reason out of the blue
@realmless41932 жыл бұрын
In this specific video, the invasion is a sidenote that just needs to be mentioned. In the previous videos he explains the invasion in detail.
@zericle12 жыл бұрын
Invasion doesn't have to be out of the blue, you know. I don't know what you mean. Plus he'd have to explain the whole story over and over, it's easier for Johnny just to say that 'Turkey invaded' without bloating the video further on something he already covered in the last two episodes.

@@realmless4193 he can reasonably say after the war or after 1974. He sounds like he's antagonizing on purpose

@@systemreset9410 My guy Johnny constantly leaves out the 11 year long violence causing dozens of massacres towards Turks eventually leading up to the Greek coup to achieve their enosis goal. But then acts like Turkey ‘invaded’ the island for no reason at all. As if the island was sooooooo peaceful.
@MichalisRbw2 жыл бұрын
@@systemreset9410 well he'd say "the war" if there was a war. A war is when two countries/government declare attack on each other. In Cyprus, there was no war, there was a para-military group that did a coup, that wasnt orchestrated by a government but by people who wanted to overthrow a government, and then Turkey invaded that country in the guise of peace keeping... Which as history has told it's not true coz they road blocked, genocide-ed and cleansed Greek population in the north. Not saying that it didn't happened to the Turkish Cypriots, but at least it wasn't orchestrated by a government military like Turkey did, instead it was orchestrated by a paramilitary group with no connections to government. Therefore Turkey clearly invaded

So I noticed a fallacy with your comparison between northern donkey population and other endangered animals. You're falsely comparing a population in Northern Cyprus against world populations of other animals, then making a statement that there aren't alot of donkeys left in the world. No hate here, just noticed the fallacy. loving the series so far.
@Nauway2 жыл бұрын
I noticed that too and did not quite understand why he put that bit in the video... maybe just to reach the 10min mark? Also enjoying the content, but not quite sure what the message was here...
