I along with 3 other gentlemen from my church in Eastern NC traveled up to Ashe County this past Friday with 2 trailer loads of supplies. We dropped them off at Mountain View Elementary School and proceeded over to the Ashe County Airport to assist in their efforts on Friday afternoon and Saturday. The Ashe County Parks Director allowed us to camp out in the Jefferson town park. I learned that 399 small airplanes had been unloaded as of Thursday afternoon. Over 100 more were unloaded on Friday and Saturday from as far away as Idaho. We helped load trucks and trailers for distribution throughout the county while unloading and sorting supplies coming in. Helicopters were also loaded for distribution in isolated communities. The volunteers were very gracious and appreciated the help. The Ashe County people along with all of the NC mountain region will be just fine in the end because they are a very resilient and self reliant. Bless them as they go through their recovery.

I live in Winston Salem and my family visits your area from time to time and this absolutely breaks my heart. We moved to NC from FL when I was 40, now 60. This devastation makes a FL hurricane look like a picnic. Thank you for making the video. People need to understand the scope of the area affected is enormous. If you have never visited the Appalachian mountains it is very hard to comprehend the area. Ashe county is just one of 25 in the state that experienced this. I have watched several and this gentleman was actually lucky, like he said everything is fixable. My son lives on the coast and in 2018 was hit by hurricane Francise. He bought a house at 22 and the next year got hit by another 100 year storm that sat for 3 days and dumped 40 inches of rain. His house was built 8 feet above ground and he had 3 feet of water in his house, so 11 feet of water on his land! 30 miles inland. It was a week before he could get into see his house and he had to do that by boat. We didn't have storms like this 20 years ago. Katrina was the beginning of a new ERA in hurricanes. There might be something to this climate change business, I know I'll be long gone before the decision is made. I wish everyone going through this the strength to get through it one day at a time.

I live in Ashe County and I think the tourist issue is complicated-this is also the time of year when we get a large amount of tourists who come to see the fall leaves. A lot businesses count on the tourist industry during this time of year for a significant percentage of their yearly income. To lose all tourist income at this time may make a horrible situation even worse. I don’t know…I struggle with this…I’m not sure if there is a right or wrong or just a hundred shades of grey. We don’t need tourists who gawk, but we still need enough tourist income to support those jobs that rely on them.

Thank you so much for filming this. I will be praying for you & others that were involved in this gigantic flood I thought Katrina was bad but this one was much worse.

I am so sorry for all your area is going through. My Dad used to live near Tryon, but he died years ago. I know this would break his heart. One of our Churches will be on the way Wednesday to bring supplies and help where they can. Prayers for healing and strength for all of your area 🙏 ❤❤❤

You've got our long term and short term prayers and help commitment, sir - you and all of you in NC, TN, and SC... I'm so sorry this happened but you're right, rebuilt for the next one that may be bigger than that. For the next generation... it will be slow if done right and you start by just doing the one thing at a time...God be with you and your family, neighbors, friends and community.
