Once I saw Reimer and Petry in the game I knew the result. Petry should get 3-4 shifts in a game or out of the line up. Bring up Albert J can't do worst then Petry. The comments from Grand Rapids say he has played better then Simon E. Bring up Kasper and Elmer S to mix things up. The Wings are not dead yet they need someone to get hot and some luck. I will be cheering for the Wings win or lose, even if losing hurts. Remember back in the 70's - 80's etc the Wings only made the playoffs one time in 17 seasons. They traded away (gave away) some great players like Webster, Dionne and my favorite all-star G Unger. On the radio you heard the great play of Mickey Redmond and the HUM line. Who can score like Mickey now? Where's our current HUM line? Who will step up. You have to find a way to breakdown those defensive systems. The other teams won't change their systems as the Wings would score several more goals.

So much of this discussion should be focused on the system. They just don't play it well enough often enough to survive against the elite teams. The defensive breakouts and transitions to offense are terrible. Mick pointed out a relatively simple play that Edvinsson made from behind the goal line. It was a simple pass, but it was a good play because it wasn't just the typical wrap around the boards to his defense partner on the other side that every other Wings player will do. This team's structure is baffling at times. Our defensemen will stand behind the net for 10 seconds straight, waiting for a passing option, and then force a clearing attempt up the boards to the only forward within frame of the camera, where he's immediately pounced on by a forechecker. There was a breakout at one point in the game started by Seider, but the forwards were all right on top of him instead of a little ahead. He delayed, turned back to create space, and then ended up just throwing a 50 foot bomb that didn't connect instead of skating it up. I have no idea what they're coached to do but it's not creative, it's not fluid, and it's not effective. And that's to say nothing of the offense, which has been a problem all year. There's a reason we kept talking about shooting percentage and how sustainable this was. They just play terribly when it comes to creating scoring chances. Shots on goal require a miracle. They dump the puck in mindlessly, so that none of their teammates have a chance of reaching it. Michael Rasmussen will continue to be a ridiculously underwhelming hockey player if he never learns how to get off the boards and use the ice. Joe Veleno is just not good at very many things. Andrew Copp too, I guess, but we probably can't do much about that. Lots of issues that coaching needs to work around. The plan for these last 2 years clearly hasn't worked. Lalonde needs to change his approach.

At the beginning of the season, everyone was saying they'd be happy with the wings playing meaningful games in March. Well, here we are and all these games matter. The team met the standard that was set at the beginning of the year. It's better than the last 5 years, but it still sucks. This team was never a playoff team and has been punching above it's weight in a lot of games. I know we're all disappointed in the result but honestly, this is a first round exit team for sure even if they do somehow make it. Major changes are coming this off season, they have to be. Hopefully we'll get a solid D overhaul and stop this BS second chance veteran gamble.

On the Car first goal, Ras is behind the play and therefore it’s his responsibility to cover the cross pass. Jarvis had Guentzel with him. If Petry had not come over to help Seider, then Guentzel would have had a free wide open play on net. (Watch it back if you don’t believe me) Petry motioned for Ras to pick up the cross pass and Ras didn’t notice in time. In the post game, Lalonde said that Ras missed his defensive assignment on that play. Petry played that properly. As for Petry’s penalty: every player has gotten penalties from time to time. It’s not like Petry has been racking up penalty minutes with the Wings. It happens sometimes. On the 3rd goal, Petry did seem to react really slowly. I can agree with that. But Reimer also reacted really slowly and he was part of the problem there. He didn’t even try to move to the other side of the goal. He just leaned a bit. I get that people get frustrated and just want to blame someone. But Petry has been getting bashed all season and hasn’t been anywhere near as bad as all that. I’m not pretending he’s great but he also wasn’t brought in to be great. He is, on the other hand, the 2nd best R def on the Wings right now. Seider > Petry > Holl, and that’s it for R def on the Wings currently. Idk how many times I’ve seen Wings’ defensemen make a play in the defensive zone only for a forward to bungle it. I can agree that the Wings D core needs work and Yzerman has been filling up the farm system with them. But more than that is how bad the forwards are in the defensive zone. Often low pressure and poor puck control with bad passes in the D zone. I guess it was my turn to rant. lol

This team has gone from being competitive against the best teams in the league and looking like a playoff team to literary being the worst team in the league in one month. They have won just 3 of their last 14 games and most of those loses were not even close. They've been outscored and outshot something like 3 to 1 during that time. They look pitiful and clueless. I've been faithful to the Yzerman plan up to now, but it has been totally derailed and exposed during this stretch. They need a huge overhaul in the off season and hopefully a new coaching staff (PLEASE)!

I’m not sure why people keep saying Walman was scratched for poor play. As far as I know, Walman was only scratched one game this season. I looked it up and could only find the one game as well. It was the game against the Leafs back in January. Lalonde said he was out for illness and the website confirmed that. Edit: I now see Walman was also out against VGK in March. The website said he was in but further research showed he didn’t actually play.

Truly a disgusting performance. Turned off the game after the the Canes first goal. Feel so sorry for Stevie Y. He relied on these turncoat rentals to take them so close into the playoffs. Lalonde needs to resign IMMEDIATELY. And these rentals, with the exception of Kane (who didn't play tonight) and Debrincat, need the boot and not play pro hockey ever again, at least not for the salaries Stevie Y had given them..... Except for Kane and Debrincat, the rentals absolutely stopped playing professional hockey for the last 3 weeks. The only real good that comes out of making the playoffs in this season specifically is to get Seider and Raymond as much playoff experience as could be humanly asked for. 60% of this team or more is going to be gone and replaced in the next 2-3ish years by Yzerman's draft picks, which is what happened right before Tampa Bay started putting on a bit of a dynastic performance for a few years. Whether this Red Wings team makes the playoffs or not, the reason most of these bridge guys were signed was to be a guiding presence through learning experiences for Raymond and Seider (and indirectly guys like Berggren and Edvinsson) so that they themselves could do the same for the prospects that replace the bridge deals. As undeniably ugly as it is, this current stretch of hockey is as much of a learning experience as a first round berth might be. A love to win is one thing, but learning to hate losing can potentially be even more compelling, and once a few of the long-term likely's start trickling in next year (especially after what hopefully turns out to be a deep playoff run in the AHL themselves; lesser, but still valuable experience), don't be shocked to see a fierce, bitter young team be in a divisional spot come March 2025. We've gone 7 years without playoff hockey in Detroit so far, I think we can survive one more if it means there are 12+ years of post-season appearances ahead of us. There's still a real vision here; the present is surely gloomy, but the future remains illustrious as ever. As an aside, I chuckled at the sentiment towards Kane's absence from the game.

At this point I believe that they aren't aloud to be creative. They are forced to stick to the play, and the play only. It's either that, or everyone on the team is shit for brains and no courage to be creative and try and fool the opposition. Rather then outplay them with set plays off of a dry erase board. I just don't get it. Maybe all the games the wings win are ONLY because the team they beat just have a bad game. Next year will be the same story. Because the coach needs to go, and literally over half of the roster needs to go. At this point, they should just stack the team with prospects on the roster for next year. It's pretty cool having all these Michigan players. But it's also hurting the franchise. Larkin is all the local talent the team needs. Stack the team with the best players on the planet by drafting AND TRADING. Stop stacking the team with Michigan players when there is a whole planet of humans that can play great hockey. This team is supposed to be elite. They just roll over and show their belly as soon as the game doesn't go as planned. At this point I might just start to watch only Griffins games until the Red Wings get passed round 1in the playoffs. Getting to the playoffs isn't going to be enough for me to want to watch any wings games.... I kinda lost control for a minute there 😅

When are fans gonna realize this team is not good. Bunch of B and C players who don't make a difference. SY has to do something to aquire some elite talented blue chip players. Haven't been able to draft that talent but he has to do something or else it's the same next season. Can't win without star talent. Even the prospect pool is B+ players and no difference makers. Debrincat horrible trade. 8 mil for 1 goal every 13 games. Not good enough. They're right where they should be considering the talent quality.

Carolina’s play is elite because their roster is elite. Larkin is a 2nd line center on any other team, tops. He’s this team’s best player. It’s an entire roster of replacement-level hockey players or worse.

uh oh - the slappies are gonna blow - I have never understood why that is considered such an insult . they have some better players to play with this year - and sure enough Larkin has had his best season by far . He is their only real puck transporter on the whole team - that showed up when he was hurt - still have to wonder why Yzerman did not go with more youth / prospects . Edvinsson is clearly the 2nd best Dman in the organization - today. Don't know why he needed to get so many 4th day leftovers.

Im done being in denial about SY....1 thing is clear his drafting has been horrible beyond the 1st rd. The signing of middle aged men with long dumb contracts was to make up for his terrible drafting. Going out and signing and old defenseman Godstrawhatever which removed Seider from the PP and completely stops his development is a fireable offense by itself. If SY isnt going to change his approach which i dont think he will then he needs to go

What gets to me are the so-called fans that want to dump obviously good coaches when things don't go exactly as they want them to for 4-6 weeks. The Red Wings are NOT the NJ Devils. This is NOT the age of unlimited money. There's a salary cap to deal with. Theres a player's union to deal with. This is NOT 2008 anymore. Some of these guys cite coaches names they can't even spell! We're making obvious progress every year and building a perennial playoff team like Tampa Bay. Relax, Yzerman was a great player and IS a great GM. If you can't be patient then be a Devils fan. @@scottritcey5166 The Wings have plenty of young talent right now. The depth will mostly be from temporary, short term contracts. Stevie has to sign Mo and Razor this offseason and lock them up for 6 or 8 years each. They are continuing to improve every year and keep showing that they're the type of player that are the a perfit for what Yzerman want to build his team around. They are both very young STAR players in this league. Cossa is getting all kinds of applause and is finally showing what we've all been promised and been waiting to see from him. So the Goalie situation isn't looking bad at all right now either. Though with Goalie's that can change overnight... There are MANY other young players at various minor league levels and positions and some that I believe are at the NHL level already! Like Walman for instance, that are coming along nicely too. I have to check his contract situation in particular but I think he's got a long term future in Detroit. The Wings WILL make the playoffs next season and they WILL sign some difference makers over the summer too.

They talk and talk and talk about this being a defensive focused team and all season I watched a team that played some of the sloppiest defense I've seen in years. That's not a "money problem" or whatever you think your point is that's a coaching failing. Lalonde is either incompetent or full of crap. Pick one. Either way, if you want a defensive focused team he's not the guy.

Also, Lalonde said it many times this season. He has no stars and the fact they won 30+ games is already a great accomplishment. Until a player like McDavid or MacKinnon plays with the Wings, you cannot expect this team to make the PO's. He's doing his best with what he has to work with : a few very great vets who won elsewhere and a lot of youngsters who are 5-6 years away from being good away from the puck.

Stevie got Petry for his amazing leadership. He brings exactly what he was brought for. He should get more ice time actually. He went on a Cup run with the Habs in 2021 and his father was a Tigers' legend. Stop being a debbie downer. This team was not expected to make the PO's.
