It's actually pretty common for victims of sexual abuse to take the hypersexual defense response and saying that we never do just normalizes stigmatizing us as "imperfect victims" or people who deserved it since we "weren't innocent anyway." I don't mind that the show is doing that as an approach to Angel's character, it just needs some HEAVY development since the move most shows default to is low-brow comedy. Also, I just remembered something from the BDSM scene: "there are certain things that you can understand or enjoy, but not ethically recommend"

Honestly, I love how Husk breaks the stereotype of the sex obsessed pansexual character (yes Husk is confirmed to be pan). Like, while it's not usually malicious these characters tend to be depicted as being flirty with everyone that has a pulse in their immediate vicinity while throwing sex jokes and getting horny even in inappropriate situations. Angel Dust's jokes do not seem, to me, like they are there to make you laugh. They are there to remind you of who he is and what he's still going through. And that's quite a realistic approach.

I think Angel Dust's Characterization is on point as it follows a specific avenue of behaviour that is expressed in victims of sexual/physical/emotional assault. As we saw in episode 4, this part of his personality is absolutely a control thing. When he makes advances on people, tells sex jokes, shows off his pornos, it's an easy way to exert power that he feels he lacks. It isn't bad writing, or exploiting one gag for cheap laughs. I truly believe Angel's character is a well thought out depiction of someone being overly inappropriate on a consistent basis due to trauma.

You can also see moments where Angel has his mask slip away when he listens to Valetino's voicemails or at the bar after his shoot. In episode 4, we see him have this mask off, and then Husk comments on his appearance before putting the mask back on. If Husk had slept with Angel, he wouldn't be as obsessed over prodding Husk since, in that instance, he would have established control, but Husk keeps pushing him away and even calls him fake. Constantly breaking down Angel's attempt at control and causing the snap we see. Then he goes to the shark dudes, modifying what happens to make him look in control. A coping mechanism that recontextualizes the prior episodes and behaviors.

I totally agree with this, and I wish more people said it. While I can understand both sides of the argument, that Angel’s behavior is inappropriate coming from a sexual abuse victim, vs his behavior being a trauma response and on point for his experience. Victims experience SA differently, and in Angel’s case I think he uses sex jokes to cope and make the topic of his his dangerous situation “funny” in order to not let his guard down. What you said about his need for control is spot on. Also, he is harassing Husk, I’ll give people that, but I don’t think he would ever act on anything he says or genuinely hurt anyone like he’s been hurt. NOT that that excuses Angel’s harassment, but just putting that out there.

What'll be interesting to see going forward is how the show handles his behavior now that Husk has caught on to the reasons for his hypersexuality. Habits don't just drop after one conversation, and Angel is probably going to make advances on Husk again; he's almost certainly going to continue being inappropriate toward the others, because they still haven't seen through him and accepted who he really is, so he'll continue trying to control how they perceive him. Husk has always been the one he's targeted most, though, and that's what their entire dynamic has been up to this point. But how might those interactions change, now that their understanding of each other has changed? Maybe Husk no longer gives the reaction that Angel pushes for, leaving Angel without fuel to keep the act running. Maybe something Husk says makes Angel realize that this persona he built up to protect himself is causing him to act predatory, and he doesn't want to put people in a position he too often finds himself in. Maybe Angel catches himself mid-seduction before Husk even has to say anything and changes directions so abruptly that everyone witnessing the exchange gets whiplash. Maybe Husk makes an overture that Angel recognizes as a joke and can respond to as such, which confuses the others because that whole interaction would seem ooc for what they think they know of both characters. Whatever happens, it'd be interesting to see how the show changes the way it frames this behavior.

I think Husk and Angel Dust's interactions and growth together embody HOW Charlie's dream will come true. As you've pointed out, so far she's working on Good Intentions and Summer Camp logic. While it is pretty ironic that a rehabilitation facility has a bar and you'd think that would cause more harm than good, Husk might be the only one who can at least start getting guests interested in rehabilitating themselves. Since he's been able to read people so well (he even has Charlie trying to deny her own issues), he's better than anyone else at getting to the root of the problem and maybe can help think of a solution. Maybe that's why Alastor keeps him a bartender and not part of the main staff, because he knows the hotel won't fail if Husk is in charge.

To be honest - and this will sound kinda weird but - I actually think we can sorta have...both? Like It's pretty clear that Huskerdust *will* be endgame, in my opinion. The ammount of ship art and comics that Viv has liked on her twitter, + the crew and cast talking about it constantly and having merch of the ship, *plus* Viv saying in an interview that it's an important relationship to her and It's a slow burn- yeah, pretty much guaranteed to be together at this point. HOWEVER-- I actually think that Huskerdust being a slowburn really works for them. It allows us to get that slow build up that can shape them as a unit, without romance being thrown in right away. In that sense, they sorta...ARE gonna be platonic for a while, at least that's my guess. I think we might get to see them acting as friends for a while before we see them get together, since, let's face it- they need a LOT of work before they can get together and it can be healthy. Angel definitely needs to not be with Valentino by the time they do, and I hope the writing makes them getting together feel less like a rebound, and more like a natural conclusion for Angel. (Plus, they need to quit their whole current dynamic with Angel sexually harassing him constantly, which, tbh, I'm wondering if he's already gonna lower the intensity on that after this recent episode.) Tbh my take on it is that I love the SHIT out of them as a ship, but I agree that they work platonically as well. The basic issue is that Angel views sexual favours as the only valuable thing they can do for other people, it's literally how Angel survives and what Valentino reinforces all the time. Angel has to get a million miles away from that before any successful romancing with Husk happens and thankfully Husk seems to be fairly willing to keep Angel at arms length when Angel's on their bullshit. People being sexually abused and becoming over sexual is a real thing. Angel specifically is pretty clearly being overly sexual as a coping mechanism. I think it's more strange that the shows none stop, "angle is gross", jokes from the cast isn't great. Husk is the only one that has feel of upset at boundry crossing and not, "ew, gross" energy. Which is weird for a show that's taking on a lot of sexual topics. Niffty is the only other exception that's that ride or die friend that seems indifferent about everything that's going on around her.

As someone who’s been through very similar trauma as Angel (being prostituted without much of a say, having my addiction fueled to keep me obedient, DV) hypersexuality is something that’s apparently common and something I experienced. It was never to the point of harassing someone, I wouldn’t do that. But I was a 4 hookups a night person for a while. A healthy relationship and therapy really helped. I also had my Husky, which really helped. That person wasn’t my partner, so that’s one of the reasons I love the dynamic but don’t care for the ship

I really do hope they stay just friends, because I can only imagine them continuing to bond if Angel backs off. The whole point of “Masquerade” is that not only is Angel in a horrible situation, his coping mechanism is really unhealthy and masking isn’t the answer either. So in regards to Angel displaying hypersexual behaviors while also being a victim of sexual abuse is really true to life for some victims. A common coping mechanism for some victims is turning to hypersexuality as a way of reclaiming their sexual autonomy, however it’s rarely if ever a healthy or constructive way of coping. We see this with Angel pushing Husk’s boundaries and realizing that he’s being just like Val by doing so, which ends with Husk and Angel finding genuine companionship with each other. The cycle of abuse is very real and Angel very well could fall down that pitfall, but with real genuine friends at his side and a support system backing him up, he can save himself from succumbing.

I may be biased because huskerdust got me into this fandom, but I love love love them together romantically. I can already tell that the creators will want this ship to be romantic, they already have the enemies-to-lovers banter, the annoyed, snarky b!tch x flirty and overpowering diva complex going on, so it's no surprise...however, I couldn't have been the only one that read this as an older brother/ younger brother dynamic? Husk went out of his way to comfort Angel , still actively avoids his s3xual advances, but cares enough to do that for him because he can recognize himself in Angel. Angel, as experienced as he is, doesn't know any better and needs that sort of elderly guidance and familial care so he can feel safe and loved. I hope the creators choose that and let the Angel x Husk ship become wholesomely platonic and sweet. This show, in particular, NEEDS at least ONE platonic relationship that is wholly sweet and endearing. Any others barely count because Charlie and Vaggie barely have anything going on, Alastor is in a relationship with danger itself. The villains of the show aren't as close as how we see those in Helluva Boss. Even if they kept the flirting to keep the fandom in a "will they won't they" guessing game, I'd rather have that than have them sleeping with each other. And to note, if the creators are smart - they should keep Helluva Boss as the show with the emphasis on romantic/sexual relationships. Hazbin Hotel has the essence of family. Let's keep them as a family in the making.

Especially with Loser Baby just the sort of sarcastic term of endearment is cute. Idk it just depends on your personal experience which way you might see it go. I actually think there handling his storyline pretty well. Its not shown in media as often because its controversial and hard to do properly but making a ton of off color jokes about it is an incredibly believable way for a victim of abuse to act. The important thing is how its framed and they quite clearly got that right. Hes a victem of abuse, not copeing well, and making everyone uncomfortable in the process. Thats real that happens.

I really see why you'd think of it this way, but I disagree. I think that Angel's behavior towards husk is (like other users might've pointed out) related to his trauma and problems. Everything he went through with Valantino fucked up his conception of intimacy and boundries, his hatred for himself makes him think he doesn't deserve someone who'd love him, so he's pushing Husk away intentionally before anything romantic happens. He doesn't feel like he'd deserve that, and he doesn't wanna be hurt by being rejected when he makes a serious attempt, and he doesn't wanna go through the guilt that comes with unintentionally ruining the relationship. I want Huskerdust to happen because Angel deserves and needs someone who'd understand and love him, especially after everything he's been through. I'd still be okay with them being friends if that's how the show goes

I get Angel always hitting on Husk and not having proper boundaries, its not a good thing but it does make sense. The guy has never known proper boundaries from anyone else and keeps up the hyper sexual front to the point he doesn't even know when or how to turn it off. This is how he has been treat this whole time, unwanted sexual advances on him so he's never known how to approach it in a healthy way only a learned way. And I think he's going extra hard on Husk not just because he's probably one of the few people Angel genuinely likes but he doesn't know how to express that in any healthy way, the lines have been completely blurred in his mind. He also probably wants to drive Husk away because he is good for him and deep down he knows he cares about him and he hates himself so much he doesn't want him to care about him. He pushes his buttons and boundaries not to really make a joke but push him away, make Husk so angry he'll give up on him in an attempt to protect himself and Husk from being involved with him. Angel is probably really annoyed deep down that Husk doesn't just abandon him in the dirt or use him like everyone else because it doesn't make any sense with everything he's lived so far. Its better to intentionally ruin something good and drive a person who cares away before you can ruin it unintentionally. Honestly its a little upsetting seeing the mass reactions on twitter be so negative towards it calling it a gross joke, when watching I didn't see it as the show making light or making a joke out of abuse and coping mechanisms or self destruction especially considering all the scenes around it. In fact it hits way too close to home and I don't see it often portrayed so honest. I really don't get the reactions to the song saying its saying suck it up abuse victim you're a pathetic loser like its some mean hateful victim blaming song. I know peoples experience and views are all different but it seems all very one sided, that its a bad representation all round of these topics despite other people finding it quite honest and real. I was drowning in self loathing and had an attitude that I not only deserved it but nothing can fix it and anyone who tries or even says its possible is a stupid idiot who just doesn't know. You want people to say "You're not a loser!" so you can shut them down and put up a higher wall, so you can know how wrong they are and reinforce just how right you are about how pointless trying to get out of your spiral and situation is. So when someone close to me spun it on its head and was like "Ok so you're a loser then. So am I, so what now" and opened up about their own life did I start to drop the walls and feel like they are someone who not only understood but actually fixed their situation, maybe it wasn't impossible. Its easy to reject someone trying to fix your problems when you think they can't understand or are better off than you but having someone who knows what its like to be a self declared ''loser'' in life like you on your side its different. So I was disheartened to see so many calling the song gross and victim blaming objectively. When its one of the few shows to dare be raw about it and not constantly coddle the victim, I despised coddling when I was at my lowest because it felt like pity. What Husk did would have reached me like it did Angel whilst someone hyper positive like Charlie wouldn't have.

Honestly, Angel harassing Husk at first is very telling. I was abused by my ex of 9 years and once we were separated i became very hyper sexual and hit on any man I seen, I also had experimented with hard drugs and drank a lot of alcohol to the point where I did become toxic. But it was just a phase of breaking a trauma bond, I realized that I was destroying what was left of myself and I had to stop.

I personally really like Huskerdust but I do think there’s a lot of good points in this video. Angel pushing Husk boundaries isn’t great and I can understand why people find that off putting. What makes it more tolerable for me is that Husk seems to understand why he does it. In episode 4, Husk points out Angel’s main flaw as being fake, not the constant harassment. I think this is because Husk understands why Angel is doing what he’s doing and he knows it’s to cope, not because he’s selfish. Plus anytime Angel does it, Husk comes across as less uncomfortable and more annoyed at the situation. He also does call him out on it in episode 4 so the show knows that Angel’s behavior needs to change. As for the angle that Angel doesn’t need a relationship with sex, I can’t say I quite agree with it. I think it would actually be beautiful for Angel to form a more loving sexual relationship after all the sexual abuse he’s been through. It would be the ultimate sign of healing. For the record, I think it’s totally fine if they don’t go that route but I think it’s ok if they do. I’m pretty sure Viv confirmed that this ship is going to be a slow burn, which I think is the right path for this kind of relationship. They can show these characters healing and becoming more comfortable with each other in a healthier way. We’ll have to see if this ship is handled right in later episodes but I personally think it will be.

I find it funny that just this morning I was thinking of the exact same argument you had about angel harassing Husk. The four episodes we got were building up to it tho and I do think it works. Some people were saying Husk was being an ass but look at what he deals with on the daily. He's been forced to work on a bar in close proximity to the guy who literally owns him. Hes being sexually harassed on the daily and has to be forced into a rehab like setting he never asked to join. The first part of joining rehab is wanting to go to vetter yourself. Husk had no choice. Now every time we see him and Angel interact hes constantly being harrased and Husk has already said in episode 4 its not gonna work on him, he isnt interested in Angel or at least his extreme attempts to get his attention. And when Angel angrilly tries to storm off after saying why should he listen to Husk after hes trested him like shit all day we finally hear Husk clap back with "I would treat you better if you weren't pushing my boundaries!" He's perfectly fine talking to Angel but when he oversteps his boundaries, he gives back what he got which is the lack of basic respect for his bodily autonomy, the same thing Angel so desperately wants so he can stop drowning in his poisonous vices to just get through the day. I love that Husk does continue to call Angel's extreme ways out as at the end of the day it did get through to Angel and allowed him to open up and be vulnerable and what does Husk do right after? Return the energy and let his walls down too. And of course relate by telling Angel they are all in the same shit sandwhich might as well share it. Its why Husk has become my favorite as he isnt a bad dude, he's just tired of the bad hands he dealt for himself and just wants to be left alone. But just like Angel if you take just a little bit of time to show him consideration and try to get to know him at his pace, he's more than willing to lend a fluffy ear to hear you out.

As a survivor of SA and CSA, I find a lot of group talks and therapist and doctors expect me to have shied away from sex as a whole. Like to the point one person even expressed how “should you run away in terror at the thought of intercourse?” No, I mean, yes that can happen. Yes that is a valid expression of trauma. But it’s not everyone’s. CSA can lead to in fact the exact opposite and trauma is expressed with over sexuality. Use sex, drugs, anger, any number of things as a way to guard and protect ourselves. I see angel dust with characteristics of myself and even others whose survived. Some addiction, some casual sex and jumping into dangerous situations/ abusive relationships, etc. I love their dynamic, and I will just like to see how it grows. Also; Charlie and vags

After I watched the series, I didn't realize how big of a ship HuskerDust was until I went online and started consuming more Hazbin Hotel fan content. I get the appeal (their duet was incredible), but it certainly doesn't do it for me, and I'm honestly kinda disappointed that them becoming canon is the worst kept secret from the creators/producers of the show. I definitely see them as a more mentor/mentee pairing than a romantic/sexual pairing, for two main reasons: 1) Angel really needs platonic love in his life. For the situation and the mental state he's in, platonic love would do him a world of good - and he's already on the path for that at the end of season 1 with the rest of the hotel gang. I'm honestly really tired of platonic love not being recognized in media as the powerful thing it is; it's constantly sidelined for romantic/sexual relationships or friends-to-lovers relationships, when platonic love can be just as redeeming, powerful, and empowering. That may be why RadioDust as a ship is slightly appealing to me - or at the very least, thought provoking. Alastor being asexual and Angel being hypersexual as a coping mechanism could lead to some really interesting developments - though I highly doubt that would actually ever happen in canon, nor would I necessarily want it to happen. At the end of the day, I really don't ship Angel with anybody in the series so far, at least not romantically. The boy needs all the love he can get, and I don't think romantic/sexual love would be as helpful to him as a character as true platonic bonds would. 2) Husk is so old-man coded for me. It feels kinda icky to romantically ship him with Angel, who is coded as much younger. I know age doesn't matter in the afterlife (not to mention, they're a spider and a cat...), but it still kinda gives me the ick. He seems like a great mentor and friend for Angel (even father figure-y), but thinking of them together romantically... I dunno. I kinda just wish they'd introduce a new character for Angel to vibe with (perhaps once he's in a better place mentally...) because I honestly don't really like any of the possible (romantic) ship options for him as the roster currently stands. I just feel like I'm gonna be less than satisfied with HuskerDust becoming endgame (if the hints we keep getting from the crew are anything to go by, it's gonna happen - it's just a matter of when). The crossover that really needs to happen is Angel meeting Fizz (and maybe even Ozzie). THAT is the mentor(s) Angel really needs. I think that would be an incredibly wholesome friendship to watch unfold, not to mention Fizz and Ozzie would be able to give Angel so much empowerment in his own healing journey and for getting out from under Val's thumb. I honestly crave Angel and Fizzozzie interactions so damn much, but I highly doubt we'd ever get it (despite the fact that that friendship would be INCREDIBLY healing for Angel). PS: Is anyone else bothered by Husk's massive eyebrows? It just makes me think of Husk in human form with insane ear and nose hair... Which kinda kills his romantic "shippability" for me, to be honest, especially with someone like Angel.

I think the reason why some people would view them as more friends over lovers, is simply due to their ages. Though he died in the forties, Angel Dust died in his 20s, which explains his youthful and sarcastic disposition. Meanwhile, Husk in the 1970s and was in his 60s or 70s, explaining his more experience, if jaded, demeanor. Couples with large age gaps can work, but a lot of people tend to be uncomfortable with seeing a potentially big power dynamic take place. Regardless of their relationship status, Angel Dust and Husk have a very enjoyable dynamic that hopefully we get to see more of in the future. BTW I feel that Husk's remark about the interregation scene being terrible was in refference to Keith David's roles as Spawn and Goliath, who did interregation extremely well.

I am really hoping that Angel and Husk stay platonic. I didnt even think about them being together until entering the fandom a little bit. I agree with everything in this video and we really need more platonic bonding here. If all this work into characters improvement is soley for the reason of them getting together later on im going to be majorly disappointed. The Hazbin Hotel character ages that Viv said might be outdated because she said it'll be changed, just like most of the things Viv said will be outdated. After Hazbin is now taken by A24, there will be alot of changes, Lik Vaggie being exorcist angel instead of a earth sinner that died in 2014. And how the main casts design changed, and how Viv said that the comics may or may not be canon, saying that tge cannibal overlord (forgot her name) is an earthborn along with her cannibal people but they're also said to be a sinner too and that sinners can only be overlords not earthborns. What I'm saying is Viv's claims and thiings about Hazbin will be outdated and changed after the show is released and post-pilot. Hazbin Hotel pilot is what it is. A pilot. Ou don't consider Avatar the last airbender pilot be canon as the pilot itself will never make sense to the main series. Also human Husk is depicted younger in Viv's doodles in one of her streams and also said Husk is in his 60s or 70s, that doesn't make sense, and her forgetting Angel Dust's birthday and thinking that she made Angel's birthday april 1st and don't care about remembering ther characters birthdays and such. So yeah, let's not rely on the wiki for real info as i don't think Viv figured everything out during during it's pilot.

I actually prefer the idea of Husk and Angel in a platonic relationship. It feels like in media the trope that whenever two men start to open up emotional to each other or create a strong bond its because one (or both) are romantically interested in the other. Either that what starts off as a platonic relationship or they will eventually become a romantic relationship. It gives off the message that "men can only have a strong emotional bond if there is romance involved." I like the idea of Angel being single for a while and go on a journey of recovery, self growth, and learning to love himself.

Personally, "Loser, baby" made me come aboard HuskerDust. I don't think they'll be a couple (if they gonna be one) that comes together instantly; at this point, they feel more like they found a nice person they can be themselves with and are lowkey attracted to, which I believe they both know about. And I _love_ this sort of dynamics!

Agreed. For this to be a good ship, I hope it takes time to develop and doesn't happen instantly. Maybe a thing for the end of season two, at the earliest (depending on how long the show will run).

Agree, 100% I've adored Husk since he was introduced, really enjoying his aesthetic and his dead-inside attitude. "Loser, Baby" (the title is 2 words) is a great track, and I look forward to seeing more of his backstory.

As a Huskerdust shipper, part of me hopes they do end up together, but if they don't, thats fine. It kind if makes sense realistically. Giving what Angel has been through, he may not be ready or even want to be in a relationship at all if/when he is freed from Valentino. He may just want to enjoy his newfound freedom which is totally understandable. The two of them (Husk and Angel) are cute in fanart and comics though! :)

I know it’s early in the series but something that bothers me is that you can tell that Vivzie is more passionate about angeldust compared to Charlie (the main character) so of course angel is gonna have more interesting relationships. Charlie and Vaggie are literally DATING yet their relationship is not interesting (which is bad since shipping is a huge aspect in the fandom) even in the pilot people didn’t know they were dating and shipped Charlie with Alastor. Instead of them already dating, Vivz should have created a slow burn for Charlie and Vaggie

To be fair, the whole concept of the show revolves around redeeming sinners, and since Angel Dust is the first sinner the hotel took in, it makes sense that we’d see his dark reality and reason for redemption get plenty of focus early on.

@CipherRage-tp5ql except that Alastor thinks she's delusional and has not show much interest in any sorts of romantic affairs. He also happens to be a cannibal serial killer demon so I'm not sure Charlotte likes that. Plus, he seems to almost view her as a young, silly girl given their age difference, beliefs and whatnot.

At this point I am pretty positive huskerdust is canon because at (I believe it was the NY premiere?) they had a cocktail LITERALLY CALLED HUSKERDUST. Vivienne also said they were gonna give angel dust a love interest. So that’s where I stand.

Fr and I hope their romantic relationship is like their first time ever being in a serious relationship. Like going on picnic date, holding hands, kissing on the cheek, giving each other flowers or letters but most of all showing each other that there’s support and trust.

Oh thank god it's not just me who isn't completely taken by the ship. I didn't want to say anything because everyone else LOVED it. I don't have anything against it, I'm just not rooting for it. YET.

Both platonic and romantic would be cute. I would prefer romantic, but they would have such a cute friendship! A slow-burn friends to lovers would be so cute! And it would be even cuter if they got together in season 2 if Angel starts healing and Husk starts helping Angel even more! But, I think if it stayed platonic, it would be like a breath of fresh air for Angel!

I love the wholesomness of Angel and Husk's friendship in this series. They are shown supporting and standing by each other, having someone to lean on and talk to. Espeically loved seeing the evolution of how they hated each other and now Husk is supporting Angel at the bar to not do drugs and showing the good people Angel has surrounded himself with now. The rough-and-tumble man x f*ggy no-shits-given boy is a great pairing.

i have a deep bond with some of my oldest friends. it doesn’t mean we like each other romantically. we just have a lot of similarities and enjoy each others company. i hope husk and angel are represented this way
