The sweetest saw I've ever ran was a professionally modded jonesred with a carburetor kit reeds and sproket kit with pro bar and expensive chain in a 75 cc! That saw was absolutely nuts and it was a working saw not competition saw I got to use it everyday for a few months logging when I was in high school, to this day I've not run a saw that would out cut it.

i've run a 455 since 2006 on california oak all above 5,000 feet up. There's lighter saws and more powerful saws but this "homeowner" really performs for the money. I have a brand new spare i haven't even gassed up. A lot of bang for the buck.

I like my 455 Rancher. It does what I need it to do. Any problems I have had have been my own fault. IMO, it's more saw than the average home owner needs for property maintenance, unless you cut your own fire wood and/or own a large property.

I have used a Husqvarna 445 XTorq to cut 3 cords of hardwood firewood every year for the last 8 years. Not to mention miscellaneous limbs & branches. It Has Never Failed Me! It is finally starting to die, i will be replacing it with a Husqvarna 465 Rancher. I live in Stihl Country and have no desire to wait week's for my saw to be worked on, like everybody else around here does........

+Andrew Eberbach I ran saw for a living for 27 years. I have used Husqys and Sthils. Mostly everyone used Husqvarna's so if you had a Sthil in a camp situation you had to bring your own parts. When I did have a Sthil I had a Husky for a spare saw. I thought the undercut was enough to test the saw. It had to cut through bar length wood, and it did. And it made a near perfect undercut.

It's not all Husqy vs stihl. There's some very serious competition from Dolmar and Echo around 60 cc. Great values, too. Durability matters a lot- a key attribute of saws like the 455 IMO.

I had a 455 rancher, used it for a few years, it wasnt bad, with a 20" bar buried in oak though, i could easily bog it down. Decided to go with a 372XP as an upgrade, and WOW what a difference! Its almost the same weight as the 455, but has 20+ more ccs, double the horsepower, much higher cutting RPMs, more torque, better construction, ect. Sure its double the price as well, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Will last many many years, and TONS of parts available if needed.

That's the difference between Stihl and Husky. Huskies start easy. Stihls flood like the Nile. Stihls will dislocate your elbow if you're not careful. Huskies start easy. I know. I own two Stihl's and a Husky pole saw. Low the pole; hate the 044 and the 291. No more Stihls for me.

@@rickbarclay7892 Rick, I won’t agree or disagree with you. Stihl saws start easy in a flooded condition if you understand why they Are flooded. Having the deco valve in the top of the cylinder makes it harder to keep the deco valve in. Having it on the side of the cylinder makes it easier to work, correctly. My kit saw ms 460 is a beast. It wants to pop and yank your arm off when you pull the starter rope. I am not a wussy. I cranked an ms 461 this morning in six total pulls - three to rollover and three to run. However, I can crank the 460 pretty easily, by pouring a cap full of gas down the snout and cranking it from half choke it has a Stihl oem carb on it. It needs this extra amount of gas to get the right air/fuel mix to run.

@johnclarke6647 2 жыл бұрын
@@rickbarclay7892 if you do most of your cutting in the cold weather and they are tuned for cold weather you will have a problem starting and keeping them running in hot weather. I tune my saws in the spring and fall and will only have to make minor adjustments in cold or hot weather. A Stihl saw starts by the numbers (1) put control lever in the full choke position (2). Pull until it rolls over(attempts to start) (3) push control lever up to half choke(high speed idle). (4) pull until it starts(5) let warm up until RPM stabilizes. Husky is about the same (1) pull out choke and pulls until it rolls over (2) push in choke and (3) pull until she starts. On Stihl saws I generally do not pull it in full choke over four times before I push it up to half choke. What I am looking for is the roll over. Sometimes it will occur even in the run position. When it does I put it down one position to the half choke position and pull until it runs. In real cold weather, I have had saws start in full choke. In which case I have to push it up to half choke and blip it to idle in on smooth motion. Sometimes, I just take a break and cuss the saw while I get a smoke and a sip of Coke or Cffee. Then,Instart over at the beginning. Some damn saws are just cantankerous.

The 372XP is a great saw, but for the dollar value I believe the 455 is a much better option. If you can afford an XP, or if you need the extra power for the same weight, definitely a good choice. But for most homeowners/ landowners, a 455 is alot of saw.

You should never buy a box store saw to begin with. I got mine at a Husqvarna Dealer, and have used it extensively for silviculture, and I love it. Its a bit heavy but other then that it keeps right up with the XP's. the 346 was quite a bit more, around $700+ tax. At the time I got the 455 for $449+ tax, and 3 year waranty, and a case full of extras.

I purchased this same one and it was awesome cut like hot knife into butter for about 1 1/2 hrs then it started to get stuck half way into limbs. i cleaned it out just incase and went at it again same issue. I replaced chain with new one@ $39.98 once again hot knife into butter , again about 1 1/2 hrs later same issue. If I have to sharpen blade or buy new 1 every 1 1/2 hrs to get the job done I will never finnish and be broke in the process. I returned it next day. I rather rent one and NOT have the issues of having to shapen or replace chain every 2hrs. I had a poulan p3314 cut down and cut into firewood a 65' tree with no issues just gas and chain oil. wasn't the saw given to him as a test unit? that's what I gathered from it. Husqvarna makes a 118cc saw. I think they were asking a pro about this particular model, that's all. both are excellent companies but I own a 450 Rancher and I've owned and used Homelite, McCulloch, Poulan, and Husqvarna, but not a Stihl and all have served me well.

Husqvarna and stihl both make great saws. like chevy and ford both make good trucks, i'm just a chevy guy so i'll throw some jokes ford peoples way, that's all, it was a joke. Ill be the first to admit I'm a stihl fan boy I got five of them from the farm boss to the 121cc 084 which is from '91 and still runs like a dream. all the pros seem to use stihls over other brands. those other saws you named are terrible tho.
@MemphisMojo15s
@MemphisMojo15s 7 жыл бұрын
actually, all the pros do not use Stihl. a lot of landscapers and logging companies have used all sorts of brands of saws. McCulloch by no means, was bad..1 bad Apple here and there doesn't speak for the whole company. Homelite made some tough old saws back in the day. my dad had 2 and they lasted from the 60's to the late 90's, heavily used every year. my old Pro Mac 10-10S still runs better today than my neighbors Stihl saws..I have had a Poulan saw since Christmas 2009 and it still runs and I've cut a lot of firewood since then..well, every year I used it to cut at least 10 loads. some people can't see past the end of their nose when it comes to brand loyalty. fanboys are the funniest people on earth because 1, it shows how sheltered they are, and 2.. how prideful they are. I work with a couple guys who say Husqvarna are as good as Stihl, and that same guy has 2 Husqvarna saws and 2 Stihl saws. my Grandpa and 2 of my uncle's used to log and they used Homelite, Stihl, and McCulloch. all of which ran equally and not 1 was any better than the other. at the end of the day, I'm not switching brands based on what others have said, really because reviews in general rate all of these companies good. and Husqvarna actually rates better in a lot of areas than Stihl does. buy what you like and unless you can back up your claims, don't worry about what other people own. ;-) I bought Husqvarna because I know they make good saws, and 2 I'm sick of the Stihl hype and their blind little fanboys, and nothing what you said was a joke...and Echo also makes great stuff. all of these companies have made terrible "Homeowner" stuff that speaks poorly of their quality. think about this-do you really believe Chevrolet will put as much effort into quality of A Cruz or Volt as they would a Cadillac or GMC Denali? or an Aveo vs A Corvette...?

The fact of the matter is the 455 is a box store saw. Many dealers refuse to sell them because of the plastic clamshell construction. Like mentioned its a decent saw for a homeowner that cuts a tree or 2 a year, and nothing too big. You need to find a new dealer, I can get a brand new 550xp with a 18" bar for $500 OTD. I had a 455 and a few other saws, and in comparing the 455 does decent for what it was made for, but its no where near a XP. You get what you pay for.

Wouldnt consider it professional abilities. Husqy has 3 grades of saws. Homeowner/occasional use, land owner, and pro. Homeowner use would be the 240, 435, 440, 445, 450, 455, 460. Semi pro being the 555, 545, 353, 359, 350. Then the pro models labeled XP. The homeowner saws being typically clamshell design and all plastic, landowner saw being magnesium case, aluminum wrap handle, ect (closer to the 50/50 you describe at a cheaper price point than XP)

Considering the 455 is a homeowner grade, i would too. The 455 isnt bad for a homeowner, looking for something cheaper with ok power. The power to weight ratio isnt the greatest, and most of the construction on the 455 is plastic. Buy a XP (professional grade) Husqvarna and youll get something much more powerful, magnesium case for light weight and strength/durability, and an overall better constructed saw.

Knowing what i know now, after research and such. with the price of the 455 around the $400 mark, i think it would be a better investment to put that money towards a 346 or 550xp, $80-100 and you get a professional grade saw with alot more power and reliability. Never disagreed, the 455 is a excellent homeowner saw, if its for the occasional user, or someone looking for a more "disposable" saw. The secret is if it can be bought at lowes/HD, its not professional grade.

sometimes I wonder if people know Stihl makes a line of homeowner saws too. I see people say Husky or stihl is better but coming from someone who has been cutting trees professionally for over 20 years and owns a tree service and who's girlfriend actually works at Stihl putting saws together, there is almost no difference in quality on average between either manufacturer. Sure there is a difference between homeowner, farm use and pro saws but it's like that with anything. Stihl does cost more on average but you're not going to see that reflected in performance compared to a similar Husky. I will give the nod to Stihl on the pro line of smaller saws meant for use up in the trees though. They do have more power and rev up more. You really can't go wrong with either brand though. It's like digital cameras, if you want the best you got two choices - you can go with a Canon or Nikon. Those two are the top dogs.

Josh, I agree both saws perform quite well. My boss prefers Husqvarna for the larger chainsaws (372, 372xp, 357, 3120xp etc) and smaller Stihl saws for fallen branches and for climbers. I have a 455 Rancher, which is an efficient saw for even larger trees, but my little backup Echo saw has really amazed me with it's durability. Echo may be the cheapest bang for your buck in terms of chainsaws. Those looking to purchase a chainsaw, just don't be expecting to cut up huge oak trees or pine with it in a short period of time haha.

Cody Welter Husqvarna Pro saws are dead even in quality. Husqvarna home owner and mid grade saws are probably A bit better. I've read A lot of reviews online and on KZbin and Husqvarna gets credit as much and sometimes more than Stihl. This next line is from A Stihl dealer near me-- "The last 25 years, Stihl has suffered in quality due to making cheaper saws to compete with Box stores. Lowe's, Tractor Supply, places like that.." My uncle told me two loggers he knows switched to Husqvarna over 15 years ago, and said they were tired of their Stihl saws staying in the shop.

I would not consider this man a professional. Applaud him for at least wearing ear snd eye protection that is it. No hard hat, no chainsaw chaps while on the ground, one handing saw up in the tree.

His stihl is a much larger saw to begin with, likely a magnum. The 455 is a half/half saw, so its basically a consumer saw with professional abilities, for cheaper, the magnums are %100 pro.

***** About Husky parts it depends from where you live, in some places they have problems but in other countries like in Spain where I live it's much easier to find Husky parts than Stihl

Fire departments use both. Many around here use "Cutters Edge" with carbide 'bullet' chains. They are Jonserad / Husqvarna. Work well.

Wow Chris why don’t you show your professionalism and wear a helmet. Obviously Chris has never been cracked on the top of his head doing tree work and then realized I’m thankful I was wearing my helmet. Any True Pro doesn’t do this kind of work without their helmet and all other PPE. Come on Chris you’re making the pros look bad because you don’t care
