How can I practice self-compassion while still pushing myself to achieve my goals? How do I stop feeling like a failure for not reaching my goals? It is okay to set goals for yourself while still not participating in hustle culture. Much of society encourages people to be as productive as possible, which can be harmful, especially to those with chronic illnesses, chronic fatigue, or disabilities. In this Expert Video, Washington Post Well+Being Disability Reporter Amanda Morris teaches us three tips to practice healthier goal-setting such as knowing our personal limits, focusing on our feelings to set better goals, and letting go of hyper-productive pressure.

As someone with autism who struggles with this a lot, this video was a very uplifting watch. I would love more videos by and for people with disabilities in navigating stress, emotions and the world.

I'd never heard of F.U.N. goals until this video, but they're exactly what I've been looking for. Sometimes smart goals feel too pressured and rigid.

This really resonates with me. I love her vibes, and the mention of energy spoons. I only learned about the spoons earlier this year, and it makes explaining my fatigue/fibro easier than saying that I'm just super tired and achey. Having people tell me it's an age thing, and they're also tired--the misunderstanding of my condition--is annoying, but not worth my energy spoons. It's not an age thing, that's an excuse. It's that going for a 15 min walk some days means that I need to sit on the sofa for a while when I get back in, when a few years back I used to bike up hills and often walk 30,000+ steps a day. My condition sucks, and people asking how I feel and then totally not even trying to understand what I'm dealing with sucks just as much. Oh, and all the useless unwanted advice, eye roll. My doctor doesn't get it, and it's near impossible to find a doctor these days, at least where I live. Luckily I have a couple of specialists, and am on waitlists for a couple more. We need more videos like this, for people with various conditions, and for the general public to be more aware. Thanks Headspace and Amanda Morris :) I'm definitely going to rewatch this, and often, until I find a comparable video. I also appreciate the shortness, because I have a rough time concentrating much of the time.
