I had an old Honeywell just as you have pictured, but it only had two wires -- heater only, no fan, no A/C. After watching your video I figured it couldn't be that difficult. I connected the white wire to the W terminal, the black (red? it was dark, color indeterminate, but not white) to the R terminal, and I had functional Heater control on first try. Thanks for posting your video, it was easier then trying to decipher the instructions describing 4 or more wire systems that I could not relate to.

Thanks for the video. Excellent! I have one question. I'm installing this thermostat in my remote off grid vacation cabin for my williams propane stove. I do not have electrical power (I use a generator for lights, etc.), so I was planning on using this thermostat with battery as the primary power. Question: do I just connect to the W (heat) terminal and run that connection on the stove identified as "thermostat"? Thanks for any help.

Williams has a few videos on hooking up a propane heater to your thermostat- in the video, it shows a Williams (2 wire) thermostat application but it talks about your thermostat wire that you have- hopefully that video can help- W connection to your switched heater and R connection to the constant voltage wire (with the R to RC jumper wire removed) is the most common connection for a general thermostat. Mike I’ve got an older, Mercury type as well and it’s a round Honeywell. Only two wires in back. One is red and the other is green but it’s marked “B”. I do not have air hooked up to this. Strictly a boiler heating system. Pretty obvious where the red goes but does the other one go in “C”?
@mikesdoityourself
@mikesdoityourself 4 жыл бұрын
For a two wire system, it should be red to "r" and white to "w". In a a/c system, the green wire would go to "g" to turn on the blower motor. Since you have a boiler heating system, I would make sure your thermostat is compatible with your system and go by the thermostats instructions for wiring. Good luck! - Mike

Hello sir. When you have the heat pump heating the house in the winter and it needs auxillary heat assistance when the temperatures are real low, will ' aux ht' or 'em ht' show up on the screen when it comes on to assist the heat pump? Thank you for your video.
@mikesdoityourself
@mikesdoityourself 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, when temps are below 40 degrees outside, the heat pump sometimes needs help to maintain the set thermostat temperature. It will turn on the electric resistance heating coils in the air handler. It usually only runs for a short amount of time in this mode. Emergency heat is usually turned on manually and should usually only be used when you have an issue with your heat pump. These two modes will usually incur higher heating bills. Good luck with your project!- Mike

Hello Mike, Great video, by the way. I have a question. I have a 30 year old mercury thermostat that has a brown wire that was connected to a screw labeled "TC". I'm installing the same Honeywell thermostat as in your video. I've labeled all the wires, however, none of the labels have TC on them. I have no idea what to do with the brown wire. Have any suggestions?
@mikesdoityourself
@mikesdoityourself 4 жыл бұрын
In some instances, the brown wire is unused in newer thermostats. It is commonly used for emergency, secondary or backup heating. It may connect to your W-2, Aux, or E terminal on the new thermostat depending on the purpose of it from when it was on the old thermostat and/or what kind of system you have. A functional check after wiring it these specific ways should let you know if you've got it right. Just remember to turn power off between moving wires around. Honeywell has a customer service wiring help line if needed. Good luck!- Mike

hey mike, I have an Orange, Yellow, Blue, Green, White, RH, and RC on my old thermostat. The RH and RC are jumped together. Where would I put the orange and blue on this system, since there looks to be 1 spot for o/b? And, am I supposed to jumper the RH and RC like my old one?
@mikesdoityourself
@mikesdoityourself 4 жыл бұрын
The orange wire is going to be for the heat pump and the blue wire is going to the common wire. I would put orange in the o/b spot and look for a common wire location for the blue wire. I would wire the RH and RC wires separately. I would go by the directions in the thermostat first and if you need to make adjustments, it should be easy enough. If heat or cool doesn't work, you may need to jumper RC and RH. Don't forget to pull the breaker before changing wires. Good luck! - Mike

Hello! They recently installed a new AC Rheem both inside/out units with a T1 Pro Thermostat (TH1110D2009) , however the AC runs for only about 6 minutes then turns off. It then takes close to 1 hour before running another 6 minutes… I saw another video about adjusting the cycle rate on the thermostat… Please let me know if this will fix my issue and how can I do it on this new thermostat. Thanks!
@mikesdoityourself
@mikesdoityourself Жыл бұрын
Sounds like the company that did the installation has some setting up of the system still to do, or there is warranty work to be done. Cycle rate refers to the maximum number of times a system will run in an hour - most are factory set at 5 to 6 times. This shouldn't need any adjustment, and it won't affect the amount of time your system is actually running. If your system is reaching your set thermostat temperature at the 6 minutes mark, there isn't an issue. Otherwise, you should have the installation company fix the issue.- Mike

Sounds like you may need to recheck your wiring(a short may be occuring) or a control board switch relay is bad or a capacitor is bad. I would go with wiring first- once this is ruled out, I would check the capacitor (s) , after that - the relay or circuit board issue. Hope this helps, Mike.

Hello David, this is an excerpt from Honeywell troubleshooting- "1. Verify that the wiring was matched correctly from the old thermostat to the new thermostat. If there are not separate wires to R and Rc, these terminals must be connected. On some thermostats this connection is made by a jumper wire connection and on other models this connection is made by a slider switch that has 1-wire and 2-wire settings. The installation guide for your thermostat will show which one you have. 2. Confirm the thermostat has been correctly configured for your system." I am assuming that the thermostat should have the cool function on the selections right out of the box, and as long as all the wires are in the right place- the thermostat may be defective. Good luck! - Mike

I would go by the wiring instructions provided by your new thermostat. Usually, it's green to G, yellow to Y, White to W, Blue goes to C or B depending on your application, Red goes to Rh or Rc. These connections may vary depending on your specific heating/cooling units or specific thermostat. Good luck with your project!- Mike

I'm hoping and praying you can answer my question. The heat at my rental stopped working so we came and found the breaker was off. You could hear the fan and everything runing after we turned it on but it's only blowing cold air. We keep putting the heat on the thermostate but it just blows cold air. It's been snowing like crazy hear in Washington with freezing temperatures and my renters aren't happy. My dad left me this house and we really can't afford to keep it. We try and do everything ourselves and my hubby is very handy but we are stumped. They wanted the AC on this summer bc we had exstremly hot temps and I didn't get it done soon enough so they managed to get print the manual out and they got the AC running. Only problem now is the heat won't run. I have this exact thermostate. Is it possible they messed with the wires and didn't tell me and this is why it's still blowing cold air? Sorry for the long story but I thought it would help explain my issue better. Thank you so much. Also we went and bought a new thermostate that was a bit more simple and it has the O and B connect seperate as many say o/b together. Also other letters that don't match this one for wiring. We thought it would be an easy fix. YR!😂 I honestly don't think its a broken thermostate. The more I read the more I think she messed with the wires. Yes she got the AC to work but now NO heat. Please please help.
@mikesdoityourself
@mikesdoityourself 2 жыл бұрын
"O" connection would be for the reversing valve in a heat pump system (orange wire)- blue wire would be your common wire for heat pumps, this would go to your "B" terminal- I was missing some wires with this install video, so my wiring may be different than yours. I would go by the thermostat wiring manual for the final word on wiring- but this definitely sounds like a wiring issue. If this is a emergency situation, I would definitely call a professional. Hope this helps and Good luck with your project! - Mike

@@mikesdoityourself Thank you for getting back to me so quickly that was so nice of you. We bought the tenants heaters till we fix the issue. Unfortunately I dont have the manual to look at wiring instructions but I will try and look it up online. It does have 3 wires that are similar. Ones orange, ones almost the same color but a bit like brownish orange and then red, yellow, green and I think black. I'm not sure I have to look at my hubbys phone cuz he took a pic of the wires on the wall. After reading alot of your info and ppls comments I really started thinking it might be that she messed with the wires to get the A/C running. I really hope that's all it is. If it's not the wiring do you know what else may cause this? We just had to replace a hot water tank after a week of no hot water on Christmas eve and my pocket book is thin and now this at my rental. Someones testing me.lol😂 Your awesome thanks again.

The yellow wire will be for your air conditioner compressor contactor and the orange wire is to operate your reversing valve if you have a heat pump. Both wires may or may not be for your specific situation. It's best to match up the wires to your new thermostat's instruction manual for your specific a/c or heating set-up. I would double check the wiring and operate the thermostat and see if anything doesn't work- then focus the extra wires to that location on the thermostat. Good luck! - Mike

Blue wires can connect to the C "common" terminal or the "B" terminal depending on your application. You can check if your common wire is getting 24v from the circuit board or find the wires that lead to the circuit board in your heat pump or furnace and replicate those connections to your thermostat. The wires may be Green to G- fan, white to W -heat, red to R- 24v heater/transformer. Blue to B or C "common". I would use your old thermostat connections as a reference and check your new thermostat wiring instructions for reference also. You never know if some previous person or the HVAC guy changed the wiring in the past (if it's a older home). Good luck with your project! - Mike
