I like these types of service calls. I work on industrial fire suppression systems. This reminds me of a CO2 suppression system that was protecting an enclosed CNC grinder and it kept discharging on a thermal sensor. I would come out and check the system and everything seemed fine. Discharged again and they said it has to be the heat detector is bad. I tell them it is testing fine but can change it out if they want. I asked them if their exhaust fan was working and they assured me it was thinking maybe there has to be a reason this machine is getting so hot. A few days go by and it discharges again. I go out and finally get someone to actually check their exhaust system and sure enough they hadn't changed the filter in almost a year and it got so plugged that it burnt up the exhaust motor and wasn't actually working. It boggles my mind how these large companies can have such incompetence on simple routine maintenance items. The facilities maintenance guy said that was the operators responsibility and the the operator said it was facilities responsibility, so no one was doing it lol.

@DontDrinkTheFlavorAid They were at least smart enough to have spare cylinders on site. But all the service calls and trips to refill cylinders was not a cheap learning lesson for them!

Great video Rick, I love finding a strainer clogged, makes you look good, and good find because a lot of guys wouldn’t check it. I was working on a Carrier chiller that was running glycol through two semi hermetic plate fin heat exchangers that had an acid going through, chilled glycol to cool the acid being used as an anodizing process. I found screw heads in the chiller strainer, explained to the customer that one or both of their semi hermetic heat exchangers needed new gaskets, the glycol and acid were mixing! By the way they were anodizing guns lol. The fun things we find in this trade lol

My first job was at Mac Donald's there they had a filter for the grease vats ,once a week run it threw the filter. Work at a spot where they had salt water tank the guy would come in on the weekend and run the portable filter on it .Plus it had one that ran 24 -7 . A portable filter system for that tank wouldn`t be that bad return on one side and supply on the other. Maybe a dumbed down pool filter system.

They really ought to have a second water circuit. have worked at plastic mould factories , printers etc and their machines are always filthy. Constantly topped up with mains water from flexible pipes being blown off 😂 those plate heat exchangers are on borrowed time I’d say. Could possibly backflush them, but I think that can be hit or miss . Brilliant video 🎉

We have this exact unit only made by Thermal Care. The absolute mind blow for me is the amount of carbon steel used in a chilled water system. May as well fill it with mud because the amount of rust you get is the same. Stunningly high maintenance. Either fill it with glycol or offer an upgrade in stainless steel. Even if it adds $20k it’s worth it when you consider how much rust is going to destroy your process. Maintenance guys don’t have a clue and neither do most HVACR guys. One look at the carbon steel reducers with a brass drain valve gives that away. Great video 👌🏻
@HVACRSurvival18 күн бұрын
Yeah, I don’t understand why they didn’t put glycol in this thing to begin with, it would’ve just remove the rust possibility and not even had anything to do with freeze protection

@HVACRSurvival18 күн бұрын
It took a little bit of time to figure out how it worked, but once you get it, you got it and if you can see how I did it then you can do it on your own and that’s the whole point of why I do these, I feel as though some people make things overcomplicated to either make themselves feel better or they just don’t know how to explain things very well. But you obviously get what I’m trying to do. Thank you.

I have to admit. Some of this stuff is way over my head. But, I do enjoy the variety your channel offers. I do appreciate when you point out design flaws in equipment. To me, you're not complaining, you're telling it like it is. I also appreciate calling out laziness. I don't feel that your remarks are disparaging. What I take from it? Do it right the first time. Think about the guy who comes behind you. #1 you do it right, less negative talk towards you. And most important the next guy maybe you! Even on a call like this where you knew more needed to be done but couldn't because you're on call, you still did enough to make a difference! I know you'd be the first to say you're not perfect. But when it comes to making a difference, you seem to excel. You keep making videos, I'll stay subscribed and keep that like button lit up!! 👍🏻 I know I sound like a fanboy. But I wish there we're more guys like you in the trade to learn from when I was in it. Thamks Rick for your time and efforts!😁😎

Seems like all these factories don't give a shit about their equipment until Saturday morning when they go down. I had an exact unit like this going off on high head pressure on a Saturday morning and found the cond coils plugged tf up. The maintenance guy followed me onto the roof, and he was like that can't be why it's tripping out on high head. 😒 It was coated with a blanket of dust. They just don't care to do maintenance and wonder why their pos machines go down! "We can't shut down production", but we can skimp on general maintenance.
