Rinse with cold tap water and store in freezer after each ride. The 1l camelback bladder, purchased roughly 15 years is as good as the day I got it.

Just leave four or 5 ounces of water in your water pack and add 3 tablespoons of vinegar after every ride and slosh it around, make sure some gets into the tube. Rinse before filling for a ride. I’ve left my hip pack all winter and it is still clean as a whistle. Four years I’ve been doing this and never had to wash my hip pack or backpack. I used to use the freezer method but this works even better.

After every ride I throw the bladder in the freezer. This keeps it fresh. And if I need to clean it I use warm water with dish soap.
@carolinelief91324 ай бұрын
Same, it fits perfectly in the shallow tray that's for ice cubes

I do the exact same thing. The only thing I can add to the topic is, on long multi day rides, I use iodine tablets over night, then fill the blatter with clean water for the ride. Of course I also wash the blatter with warm water and soap.

This is my solution as well. I have bladders that have been used over 3 seasons without any mold. It even works with bladders that have been filled with Gatorade.
@PsyMongSki4 ай бұрын
I have done this for years, learnt about it when i did Juke of Edinburgh. Have the same bladder from over 8years ago now and i have maybe done a full wash 2times. Your advise is by far the best advise i have ever been given for my bladder care.😊
@mitch_smith4 ай бұрын
2 things: 1. Perfect timing. Just back from a 3 hour ride and I definitely left the water bladder in the bed of the truck. All fresh now, did a solid clean. 2. Who has an empty freezer? Is that like a "stunt freezer" that only gets used for the action shots? LOL

I actually got a new hydration pack, and they're starting to add a hanger loop to the bottom of the packs so you can hang them upside down to dry. Glad to have an updated video on deep cleaning these packs.

A puffy postal envelope around the bladder will keep it much cooler for longer. An old sock is great for isolating bits in the pack and can be a handy rag if needed. A latex glow can be used as thermal insulator around a bottle increase cage holding power and be helpful in other ways.

Great video, never would have thought of using a brush to clean the actual drinking tube. I would have been lazy and just rinsed it. 😋 My water filter jug looks like it will come in handy to keep a soon to purchase bladder pac like this even cleaner. Oh your water hack will work a treat..and SWOSH free riding, brilliant!

I'm the type of rider that uses plastic water bottles that I store inside my backpack for hydration , it's the best solution in my opinion , the bottles are never in direct sunlight so the water is cooler not to mention they can serve as back protection in case of an accident ( which btw It happened to me once )
@Blowfeld20k4 ай бұрын
What are you talking about m8 ..... please explain how a Camelback bladder inside the backpack, (dependent on design also inside its own pouch, inside the backpack), is in direct sunlight?!? ....... Don't mean to have a go m8, but that part makes no sense, since bladders are NOT directly exposed to sunlight any more than a bottle in the same bag is......... if you think about it. Personally my fav for keeping water cool is a pre frozen freezer bag pack, the blue blocks you use in picnic bags, between the bladder and back of the pack, keeps your water chilled and cools your back through your backpack all day long.
@johnssmith40054 ай бұрын
@@Blowfeld20k What I actually said is that simple plastic water bottles inside your backpack are the best solution , I never said that it's the only way to store water away from direct sunlight , I'm not sure about you but I don't like all that work needed in order to have a bladder ( washing , drying ) . I simply buy 2 bottles of water 1 L each or less and store them in my backpack, when I'm done I take the bottles to a recycling point , not sure if it's the cheapest way but I'm sure it's the most practical way .

As soon as I am finished using my Camelback, I place the bladder in the freezer to prevent any mold. I do this with my water bottles as well.

Efferdent in the bladder, then squeeze it out through the tube and valve. For a deeper cleaning, you can do the same with beer tap cleaner.
@Shawn-in-da-Canyon4 ай бұрын
The freezer is all you need. I have two bladders. Rinse, suck the water and air out, throw in the freezer and rotate bladders, so each one is in the freezer longer. I’ve been doing this since the first bladders came out, without and stink or problems.

After each sip, blow into the hose. It pushes the water back into the reservoir instead of leaving it in the hose to heat up.

Personally with my packs/bottles I occasionally throw in a cap of sterilising fluid for baby bottles..any mould etc disappears quickly from all the crevices/tubes, then easily washed/rinsed away, and if not rinsed properly well if it's safe for a baby to run that risk it's definitely safe for a fully grown mountain biker... Easy.

I've used Camelback hydration pack for... ˜15 years?! Never had a problem with mould or taste or dirt... thus, never bothered to wash it 😂 and I filled it with all sort of water out there. Natural cleansing 🤷🏼♂?
@ChristianPareATLAS4 ай бұрын
I used to use bleach and soaked for 1 hour. Rince very well then soaked for 1 hour with lots of dish soap. Rinse well and soaked and rinse again well. Air dry but never in the freezer. On long rides i bring also an isolated lunch bag with 1 ice pack. Always funny to drink a cold drink in front of everyone sweating. I mostly get told they will do the same the next ride. Juice, water, ice tea, even the camel back can be put in that bag. 1 extra pound is all good
