THISSS is a title. It instantly makes me think of how Supreme started off as a one-off store in NY to cater to the hip hop kids and skater kids in the 90’s, and their artsy and weird designs were specifically created by people who were a part of these groups. But it’s been so bastardised to the point where they can put a big ‘s’ on a t-shirt and resellers start licking their lips lmao

I literally went in to see parasite without seeing any previews, people told me it was good but they didn’t say why. I went in blind seeing Parasite too and my mind was blown. I saw the trailer before, but I didn’t know what to make of what the movie could be. I watched it, and every time I came up with a theory as to what would happen, I was wrong, and I LOVED THAT. I love movies that subvert all of my theories and expectations. JoJo Rabit was a really good movie too. The part with his Mom was so heartbreaking.

the problem causing this is that there is a LOT of incredible art out there, and its easier for ANYONE to get that art out there than its ever been. therefore, the only way to get people to see that incredible art is to garner enough hype that it drowns everything else out-but then, that art doesnt FEEL as incredible as something u just “discovered”

I thought the exact same thing about WLR when it came out. I woke up on Christmas morning and decided to give it a listen. I wasn't a huge Carti fan at the time, but I was interested to see how it would turn out knowing that it had been one of the most hyped albums of the past year. I went into it blindly with no expectations and I ended up really enjoying it and the production. Once I finished it I went online to see other people's thoughts, needless to say I was surprised for sure. I know a lot of diehard fans went into it with impossible expectations after the buildup of hype for nearly 2 years, stayed up until midnight and then put their opinion out based off the first 2 songs, just to be first. And because of that, a lot of regular listeners most likely went into it knowing it would be trash based off the opinions put out that early. So I'm happy that I went into it with no expectations and I now try to do the same for nearly everything that catches my interest because of this incident.

really surprised you didn't mention Suicide Squad, I was *crushed* when that movie came out because the trailers were so good and the Internet hyped it up so much, only for it to be awful. conversely, I knew basically nothing about Birds of Prey before watching it and ended up loving it

God of War 2018, It Takes Two, and Minecraft are my favorite games. They blew my mind because I don't know what are they about. I just randomly watched playthrough from KZbin -- yes, I can't play them because I don't have PS4/good PC. Except for Minecraft -- and I immediately fell in love with both playthrough of GOW and It Takes 2. For Minecraft, back in 2014 I remember I watched my friends play it and I say "the hell is this game? Why everything is blocks?" I didn't want to try the game until the next day and oh boy, nowadays even though I don't really play it a lot like I used to I always up to date with the game

I get excited for the things but the mind doesn't go much further than that. And honestly, after seeing this video and the one about waiting for artists to drop a new thing, I'm really glad of it. There's just so much media to consume while you wait, it's chill

Late as hell comment but i remember when i was first getting into kanye back in 2016 and saw that his new album was releasing and thought to myself "hey this is the best time to get into his music" and went and researched his stuff (like asking what album i should start from etc...). i remember seeing how much people thought mbdtf is an unrivalled masterpiece and how it's the best ye album so i was hyped to hear it and saved it for last. but sadly, when i actually listened to it i really didn't understand how it's a masterpiece at all. and still don't in all honesty, i liked the songs, Don't get me wrong, but how it's different from any other really solid pop rap album is beyond me. i understand the role it plays in kanye's life/career but i just don't see it being the masterpiece that so many people made me believe it to be. now with that being said, i'm like 99% sure that if i went and listened to it without seeing all those claims of it being that good i would FOR SURE liked it a lot more than i do now.

For me it had to be Spider-Man Far From Home, Rise Of Skywalker, Batman vs Superman + Justice League + Suicide squad. There’s there’s another level where the movie isn’t bad but isn’t as good as I expected like Deadpool or my first watch of The Dark Knight. There’s also the movies where you live it in the moment but then learn more about it and see it how it truly is like Joker, Last Jedi, Endgame, Amazing Spider-Man 2. And finally the movies you have no expectations for that hit like Rogue One, Marriage Story, Prisoners, and Donnie Darko. The final stage is where it has all the hype, and meets expectations, examples are Infinity War, Godfather, Empire Strikes Back, Pulp Fiction. No matter how the hype is, in the end the way it is known will be on how good it was, not on if it lived up to the hype unless it misses its expectations by a lot

I still remember when BTS was working on their first full album in 2014 and I expected their title track to be inspired by og hip hop, bc at that time they were learning about hiphop through Warren G and Coolio's mentorship. I was so hyped for it, but then they dropped it and the song had a rock base... I was so disappointed. I waited a month before giving it another try and then I loved it. It still has one of my favourite choreos of theirs.

While is sucks to do taxes, worry about my budget, and attend way too many boring work meetings, I would not trade the sense of agency, empowerment, and identity that adulthood has brought me for anything. For me, growing up meant realizing that I can literally do anything I want. It's been really liberating learning to reject a lot of the invisible constraints on my sense of self-worth and ambitions that were indoctrinated into me by virtue of the family/society that I happened to be born into.
