Surprise surprise! HyperX has a keyboard?!?! The Alloy FPS is a barebones MX Blue only keyboard with no bells or whistles. Is it worth the asking price?

I have an Alloy FPS with reds and, it is frankly amazing. It is my first mechanical keyboard and I got it for 40% off MSRP because of a clearance sale. It is truly a great board. Oh, and Kingston HyperX, if you read this, can you make it so we can buy a wrist rest separately just like the accesories pack you sell on your website?

I game on Blues just fine, just as I used to type on Reds just fine...it's a matter of preference and habit. It's not set in stone that Reds = gaming and Blues = typing. Stop pointing that out as a flaw when it's not, dammit.

I have the Blues, and they are just fine. I've tried the Reds, and in my eyes, there's no difference other than the audible click. Either is suitable for typing and gaming. It all boils down to personal preference. The "gamers" who seem to live and die by the Reds seem like those who are afraid to get yelled at by mom and dad for clicking the keyboard all night

don't blues have hysteresis? you can't press a cherry mx blue twice without completely releasing the key which is pretty bad for fast paced games like csgo, but idk i've never tried them

Switches are a matter of feel and is completely subjective. You don't get tired because of a switch unless your finger muscles are near atrophy. Sucks that ever since the dawn of mechanical keyboards in gaming, Blues keep getting a bad rep because some idiot somewhere wanted to sell his Browns or Reds Keyboard and made up some bullshit that everyone eats up.
@NationDarkness
@NationDarkness 7 жыл бұрын
Paz no, actually. If you were a hardcore gamer you would understand. Every millisecond is crucial, and these not only take longer to press but also are harder, making it slower to switch keys

Sorry kid, you just got fooled by marketing. It doesn't work like that, despite what peripheral manufacturers want you to think. You can be a professional gamer with a $15 keyboard, but they don't tell you that because why would you buy an overpriced keyboard if you do. I am being objective here. I am a fan of mechanical keyboards. I have a Filco MJ2 and a Pok3r and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. But you don't buy keyboards to gain an edge in competitive gaming. You buy mechs for how they look, feel, and make you feel. Mice may be a different thing (because sensors) though.

I partially agree, he's making out to be a much bigger deal than it is. I don't think it's completely subjective, because there definitely are mechanical differences, but for the most part it doesn't make a great deal of difference.

Abhijay Rao how many people actually ride the actuation point on average? With lighter switches like reds and browns the majority just mash them to the bottom. "Hey I though you said these wouldn't make noise" your bottoming it out and smashing plastic against plastic of course its going to make noise!

TLDR: This is an ad for a keyboard mixed in with some of his opinion. Get what you want, but I think the marketing for Cherry Reds being superior is bullshit and I tried to point it out. I like loud clicky, and it is totally okay if you do or don't. No one cares except you. I really never understood the criticism of MX blues for gaming. 1) "..This can be a major disadvantage for FPS gamers, because in my experience, these switches are not so good for fast actions, like changing weapons, or movement throughout the gameplay..." 2) "...You'll easily experience finger fatigue after hours of gameplay given the slightly stronger actuation force..." Arguments made rely on anecdotal evidence and nothing more. The disadvantage of the blue is that the reset point for the switch is above the actuation point, which means that more time would have to be spent letting it raise to meet that reset criteria compared to something like the red. This means doing quick double taps with the keyboard would be less efficient, in theory. But, I think there are two conditions to meet this: either being incredibly lazy (most people), or becoming so efficient at pressing buttons that you are able to control the switch within 1-2 mm. If the latter is the case, bravo and the blues aren't for you then. Otherwise, it is purely a preference that is being argued, not a flaw. The force required to press down a single MX Blue switch is ~50 nf, whereas the MX Red is 45 nf. That is 5 newtons difference. The average force able to be generated by a finger in a pressing motion (typing mechanic) is above 110 nf in adult men, and above 75 in adult women. That is a 5% difference in males and a 6% difference in females. The force required to press these switches is practically the same. We may perceive some very slight differences, but the math is there to show this would be something in someone's head, especially one who holds certain biases. It could just be a psychosomatic effect. Or, the 5 newtons could be a real hurdle for people with poor dexterity! If that's the case, there is always the alternative of a a red switch, or improving dexterity. I don't think the actuation force is necessarily a problem in the long run, I think it just requires time to acclimate to it, just like it would take to acclimate to reds or to browns, etc. I don't think the second quote is at all fair, as there are too many factors to go into such as angle of wrist, fingers, your age/sex, activity levels, etc to make a blanket statement. Some people may experience fatigue, but I want to play with the quote. On one hand, we are presented with the notion that MX Blues are terrible for gaming and would cause fatigue faster because of the stronger required actuation force. On the other hand, they are superior for productivity, including typing. However, which would contain more constant resetting of key strokes? I would argue productivity, especially for a typist, or a really adept and motivated image editor, etc. With gaming, we often have long bouts of holding down buttons, such as to move forward. Of course, when moments are intense, we might as well be playing some sort of Chopin etude. However, games typically are not not stop action, especially the ones these keyboards are marketed to and argued with in this video. I think the big thing is that this is all argued from preference, which is what I have tried to explore and counter in my comment. Blues are perfectly fine for gaming, plenty of casual and hardcore gamers alike attest to them. However, I also do understand that there ARE too many factors to really account for, especially for a six minute video. So maybe I'm just an idiot who spent way too long writing all of this. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ EDIT: fixed a word or two, added tldr, and removed a bad understanding on my end of force conversions to weight.

I am a very heavy handed typer and I adore my Razer Greens. I just absolutely love the snappy tactility that I get at the top of the actuation that is just a little less pronounced on blues. I do realize that this is not optimal for FPSs. However, I have never found that this has somehow held me back although reds are definitely smoother for those type of games. For stuff like MOBAs and action-y games where the keys are not used for movement, I find that I like my clicky greens over reds.

WarHead Edgar is a commonly used English given name, from an Anglo-Saxon name Eadgar (composed of ead "rich, prosperous" and gar"spear"). Like most Anglo-Saxon names, it fell out of use by the later medieval period; it was, however, revived in the 18th century, and was popularised by its use for a character in Sir Walter Scott's The Bride of Lammermoor (1819).

Completely agree about the Cherry Blue switches. I sold mine and went back to Cherry Brown: the extra actuation force needed for the Blues made a surprisingly huge difference in the fatigue of the left hand while playing fps games to the point where it was uncomfortable; and with open back headphones or speakers, the clicking is obnoxious and annoying. Those with stronger fingers and like the noise will be fine though, each to their own.

I gamed on MX Blues for nearly a decade.. Tried out Red switches for almost two years on my last keyboard and just couldn't get used to it. I was always accidentally pressing keys that my fingers were resting on which is a problem I don't have with Blues, and the tactile feedback really helps me. To each their own. I picked up the HyperX FPS Alloy when it dropped last year and have been absolutely loving it.

I agree with Cobus Greyling's point. I much prefer the blues than any other switches because I can actually feel my presses, especially when I have my headset on to listen to the in-game surroundings and my teammates talking through Discord. The feedback you get from the clicky Blues is something the linear Reds lack.

Can we please stop this absolutely false rhetoric of MX Browns and Reds being better than blues for gaming? It's absolutely made up. As a gamer who consistently places top 2-3% over all of his games and having used Browns for two years, reds for two years, and blues for a year now, the actual, palpable difference is an absolute non-issue. On the contrary, I game far better with the blues because my actuations are giving me actual feedback. Someone decided that the extra force required to press a blue switch is an issue. Everyone else went with it. It's absolutely false, please stop proliferating this nonsense.

3:44 - "In my experience, these switches are not so good for fast actions like changing weapons or movement throughout the gameplay." Let me tell you why this annoys me: 1. You have 500K subscribers. Product developers *may* actually end up taking your opinions to heart, as we know by now the impact of social media on manufacturers' decision making processes. 2. You are not a pro gamer or even close to it. Show us your gaming footage, so that we can actually say "you're right, this keyboard is objectively worse than it would've been for gaming if it was made with Cherry MX Reds." 3. This means that the perpetuation of Cherry MX Red prevalence throughout the gaming peripheral market will be continued because manufacturers are constantly given false feedback by some dolt who just made up the fact that this affects gameplay. I was happy to see a competitive board finally come out with a typist switch, but when internet reviewers are instantly knocking it based on absolutely arbitrary rhetoric we can't expect this trend to continue.

No one mentions that the custom lighting effect can actually be altered. If you select custom mode, then press Fn+Ctrl you can select exactly which keys you want lit. Then press FN+Ctrl to set it into memory. I find it an amazing oversight on the part of reviewers.

There are people who buy the Deathstalker so yeah. I was used to normal keyboards, then used a flat one and laptops for some ~3 years and when I got a BlackWidow for my birthday a while ago it took me about a week to start typing without looking and about 3 weeks until I got faster and more comfortable with it then I was with my membrane hunk a junk.

Thanks guys, Armadillito didn't know the term. But what makes these mechanical keyboards (pretty much every keyboard nowadays) unlikeable to me is simply the height of the keycaps. i am used to very fast typing but i dont lift my fingers super high, so I think they would get in the way when i reach to the side for a key.

Bought this board after seeing it had an ISO latam distribution, there are very few brands that do latam distribution for mechanical keyboards and are affordable over here. They did fudge the keycap symbols in spanish and used a mix of latam and Spain Spanish, sent this to a HyperX Rep he said they were going to take a look for future production. Minor cosmetic issue IMHO. Other that that, it is a very solid keyboard. Can't speak of the switch color as I have only tried MX reds in a corsair display model at best buy vs a Logitech with blues, found no discernible difference at all.

The actual issue with blue switches is the reset point, not so much the actuation pressure. How light or heavy is mostly irrelevant unless you're going for black switches. Really should have added something more about the switches beyond 'they're too heavy' because it doesn't really validate the reasons why blues aren't ideal for gaming.

I like stiff/clicky switches. I'm quite heavy-handed when operating a keyboard, gaming or typing. I get that a lot of gamers like to get a lot of actions per minute by just kind of fluttering over the key really quickly, and Red's are great for that. Me though, I tend to smash my fingers on the keys. I like the "Razer Green" switch in the Blackwidow and want to try a genuine Blue board. I also want to try out a Black switch board, but they're harder to find.
