Not sure how you could have planned it, but that shot at 7:00 showing you carving the EN with the rainbow in the backdrop couldn’t be more perfect. Great review! Both look so fun to drive, but I’m hoping to get the EN within the next year or two. It does sound like a negative that the clutch engagement isn’t there, but every reviewer I’ve seen, from someone with 40 views to 400k, seems to no longer care once they start taking off in the EN. Looks like such a fun canyon carver. And like you said: taste is always subjective. I for one actually love the style of the EN. The side view especially with the lines for some reason I just really like. Grill is growing on me too. I love the look of the Type R, and the new Integra even I think looks really good, but all for different reasons. I think the reason I like the EN is for some odd reason the shape of it reminds me of my cousins Mercury Cougar. I always liked that car, and even though I don’t think they actually look alike, the EN especially from the rear makes me think of that car, and how much I always liked that style.

Uff, what a video. Man, Zygrene, that GR definitely doesn't have that elegance both inside and outside of the FL5, but there is just some raw E30 M3 vibe about this car, with its small size, extended body work, slightly slower responses and insane (for its time) hustling capability. Can't wait to drive one, just felt so mechanical in your video. Never seen a car hustle up a wet road like that. I also suspect, with its iron sleeved cylinders and Toyota Japan build, this car is going to be on the road and a classic for decades vs the Hyundai esp. Hyundai has priced their car well though, superb warranty and a Type R for the masses. Great time to be a car enthusiast.

Hard to stall with lighter wheels vs the stock boat anchor (my 18" weights 18lbs). 4wd doesn't increase latter grip, but pulling around the turn with accelerator (with AWD advantage) is easier then kicking out the rear end out before apex (FWD). When front isn't biting-in (cause of traction issue), need to change how to attack the turns and get the nose facing-in early so that powering-out is maximized. Once you learn the fwd, it becomes easy to kick-out the rear end even in long sweeper.

The thing I would look at here is reliability. I'm looking at the next segment up, which is supra vs cayman. And While I really love the Cayman so much more, the speck I would want is 98k vs 59k (plus markups) for the A91-MT supra. Mixed with Toyotas reliability and Porsches high maintaince and repair costs, the gap gets even bigger. So the Supra is where I will likely go. Have to factor in the amount of issues Elantra N owners are having. You can justify it by saying well they have a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty, but most car enthusiasts like some mods, especially exhaust mods, so you can rest assure you will be fighting to get them to fix problems under the warranty, especially the engine scoring issues they are having. The laws are clear, but manufacuers have heir own rules, like dealers can refuse to work on modified cars, even if it's a warranty issue (only exception is a recall), so if they all say can't touch it, it's modified, your warranty doesn't really mean anything. I ran into this problem with my subaru.

I'm not saying I trust a hyundai more. I am saying that getting that much power out of such a small engine that has the intended purpose of performance driving won't result in longevity. The #1 killer of engines is heat. The overheating for this car has already been documented. Whether it's pre-ignition that causes knock, pulls timing, or straight-up catastrophic failure. Oil breakdown, loss of combustion chamber pressure, the list goes on. This engine simply won't last, and I suspect the AWD system won't either. Just because it's a toyota doesn't mean it's perfect. The reason toyota is known for reliability is that they don't push the boundaries of squeezing everything they can from a powerplant. Which is obviously not what they have done in this case

Gotta disagree. The Elantra has a very plasticky interior. Corolla maybe plain inside, but it’s more plush with all that soft touch materials. And the Corolla is definitely worth the price because Toyota’s generally are built much better than Hyundais. And the Elantra doesn’t offer any more gimmicks than the Corolla so that’s not a value difference.

Unfortunately the Elantra N is so butt ugly, I don't know why anyone would want to buy it. The Veloster N and i30N look soooo much better. I recently sold my Veloster n and it had horrible wheel hop and understeer in the corners, I'm really looking forward to getting my new gr Corolla in April.
