I would like to see the video of you torquing the upper control arm bolts with the strut in place and the tires on the ground!

Great job. i always tell DIYers remove with Battery Impact Wrench & tight with Torque Wrench\Digital Torque Monitor & dont repeat clicking\buzz sound. torquing is critical! for the upper arm bolts you could have torque it at the right level without the strut installed then install the strut

A couple guys have said don't remove the strut. I disagree it opens things up and makes it so much easier. I had some time to do this so instead of paying a shop I bought an impact wrench and a cordless ratchet as well as shallow and deep sockets and a 1/2 drive torque wrench. All those tools for less than the labor I would have been charged and I keep the tools about $300. The tools are sooo much better than using manual ratchets.

Pull part off to ensure I could do the job. It should be stiff. Mail ordered part from Rock Auto. Replaced part. One would have to get real luck in order not to have to pull the strut out of the way. The two upper 14 mm bolts were too long for me to get past the spring. The joint was making noise when going over bumps and was like rubber grabbed the joint and moved it around. The joint should be stiff. Good luck replacing yours.

8:55 you can also mark the wheel well or measure where the upper control arm sits with wheel turned while on the ground and then torque it while wheel is off the ground like that. Just use a jack under the lower arm and a pry bar on upper arm to bolt the upper arm back to knuckle.

Thanks for this

Is that a quick strut? If so, which one and how has it performed over time?

You can use a jack to push up on the lower control arm. It’ll get the spring out the way a bit so you can insert the bolts. That way you don’t have to remove shock and spring.

Do you need an alignment after replacing?

I figure that’s required since he removed the strut

I had mine replaced about a month ago and the sound stopped for a while but now it’s back. Any idea on why it came back?

The arm has to be in the "up" position when installing... if it was tightened while in the loose or down position, then it will shorten the life... other than that, I'm not sure...

I went from right side of shock to take the left side of the arm bolt with knuckle

Why would you remove my comments. You're telling everyone the wrong way to remove these. That's not cool! Either show them the correct way to do the job or take down the video. It's people like you that make living in a difficult world, more difficult. People post instructional videos to help others not hinder them. Be a real man and admit you're doing it all wrong. I couldn't sleep at night if I knew I was steering everyone in the wrong direction. How do you sleep?
