In a previous video where Miah explained to Jess that they still needed to pick out the brick color. In that same video, Jess said Miah was going to build a porch since Oasis would only be providing the entrance stairs. So I don't know if plans for that have changed but yes, a covered porch (with a white beadboard ceiling & ceiling fans & ferns) running the entire front would really set the home off and and give them added living space too. The mind reels with all the places Jess will go! 🌹🌺🌻🌼🌸🏵️

I moved from a brick and mortar to a manufactured house. I love it. I'll never go back to a "stick built". We live in south Texas. It's been though storms, hail, heat and cold. No issues. Plus Real Estate Taxes - a fraction of the cost.
@dkaysette
@dkaysette 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we would LOVE the content of making your home "yours." Don't ever feel like you have to make excuses for buying a manufactured or double wide home. They are not what they used to be and we have lived in one for years. Over the years, we made it more individualized and "home-like." As we replaced things, we used more conventional materials that are used in stick built homes. People still come to our home and say "this isn't a double-wide...is it?!" As far as construction, not only does it have all the same materials as it's 'bones' but it will always have those steel runners under there, too. Added stability, I always say. They were built to be able to travel down a highway, so they are pretty darn tough. We raised a lot of kids and I still love ours. Landscaping is a MUST. Adding garage or carport also makes them more house-like (which we did.) When we added another home to our property (for an investment) we ended up getting another one because of how cost effective it was. Prices have gone up a lot since we bought ours and now they actually appraise them with appreciation if they are taken care of well. (Ours have appreciated over the years.) We have had the option to move many times, and I have never wanted to leave my home here. I simply love it and the great features we have in ours are often not even found in affordable stick built homes. This huge master bathroom of ours has caused many people to be shocked and express that they didn't even have one this nice. Your home is gorgeous! Enjoy it proudly.

Yellow bells are nice. Simple. Just snap a couple of stalks off a friend/neighbors bush and stick it where you want. Southerners are usually very generous in sharing their favorite plants, and a lot of times come with stories, i.e., these lilies came from my Aunt Mary's yard, or this rosemary is from my grandmother's...
@DeesYard

Hey Jess! 👋 You live in the south and in my opinion, Southern Living Plant Collection is your go to! All of their plants are bred to thrive in your hot and humid climate. Little limes are great and so are White Wedding Hydrangeas for staying in the height range you want. Now that you have your "non-evergreen" now it's time to fill up your house foundation with evergreen plants that will give you interest all year round (when the Hydrangeas go dormant). Great evergreen foundation plants for your area are...Jubilation Gardenia, Purple Diamond Semi-Dwarf Loropetalum (any Loropetalum is amazing), Lemon Lime Nandina, Blush Pink Nandina, Romeo Cleyera, Juliet Cleyera, viburnums, Indian Hawthorne , Sunshine Ligustrum, and my personal favorite evergreen is Radiance Abelia (or any of the awesome Abelias) since they attract all the pollinators including hummingbirds 😍 I've seen a few recommendations for Crape Myrtles- which I love for their unique bark, but I wouldn't plant them too close to the house unless you pick a "Shrub " Crape Myrtle such as the Early Bird series by Southern Living. All these recommendations is making me want to design your foundation flower bed!! Have fun with it and be creative, I know you will make it beautiful ❤ Cheers!

Fantastic suggestions, Dee! I was going to recommend evergreens for winter structure but you nailed it! I do want to add a few suggestions, look into natives. They do so much better in the soil and climate. Some fantastic perennials I personally (zone 7b) have had excellent experience with are Rudbeckia, Echinacea, Monarda, Pineapple Sage, Black and Blue Salvia, Penstemon, Coreopsis, Asclepias, Lantana, Canna, Elephant Ears, Nepeta... so many great options for your zone! There are tons of varieties large and small and hardy varieties as well.

In our 7b zone, Rose of Sharon bushes have survived EVERYTHING without any intervention. They come in lots of colors. Crepe Myrtles - that are NOT planted too close to the house are great as well. I wish that ours were the dwarf variety, but the previous owners didn't think that far ahead. Lavendar is another perennial that loves our Southern exposure. all of those things seem to keep bees happy, and me happy.

Call it a MODULAR home. They retain their value! There is a certain colored, metal tag somewhere on that house. Blue is modular. Red is manufactured.
@crisp5153
@crisp5153 3 жыл бұрын
Yes the difference is if it is a modular home then it was built to the same state codes as a stick build home. Where as mobile homes are built to lower standards. Modular homes are strictly overseen through the whole process to make sure they are up to stick build codes. They are essentially the same as stick build and are not a type of home but instead a type of construction process (built off site). Modular homes are attached to the ground and they appreciate in value just like a stick build home. Mobile homes depreciate. Modular homes can be just as expensive to build but people pick them since they are faster. These are the differences. Yours looks to me like a modular but it’s honestly all depending on if it was built to the certain states codes that a stick build was so I guess hard to say just from the look of it.

Dear Karis Bogue, Hi! I did grow many blueberries over fifteen years ago when my children were young, now they are all adults, I recall it was cool to name the Blueberry plants after my family members. My children picked them for fresh eating, baking and freezing for later use. Blueberries are a type of plant that like acid type of fertilizer, or azalea and Gardena organic food, they also need ample room for their roots and pollinator plants, they must have the required cold set time it varies on what type, and the state you are in. "Good Luck. Have fun". Christie Lankford Lesko. :)

A single crepe myrtle as a focal point between windows would look lovely with any underplantings you like (wish they did as well in my area as they do in SC). Hardy geranium is often overlooked as a pretty and low-maintenance groundcover in woodland or cottage gardens. Almost forgot: welcome home. :D

I enjoy all your videos, so what you want to share is fine. I not only have learned about gardening and animal husbandry and moving a family (which we did once, lol) but adding in a farm with all the logistical nightmare potential, I was impressed and a bit sad to see the end to R&R1 but am excited to see R&R2 built from the ground up. As to planting hydrangeas, I would suggest Paniculata Hydrangeas as they thrive in full sun, but stay away from Macrophylia unless you have lots of afternoon shade. I'm in zone 6 and my ES macro's are scorching in the full sun. We built an arbor and I'm making shade curtains as we do not have an area that is morning sun afternoon shade. I like the above suggestion for a porch. Congratulations!

I would like to add my voice to the others in saying, "let's see it all". I dearly miss garden tours but I did truly enjoyed watching the window greenhouse, kitchen remodel and all the other build projects Jeremiah put together for us. We have been on our property for almost two years and are still working and building; watching your journey would be interesting and educational. Thanks for all the inspiration you've already given us. Welcome to the neighborhood; ok, we're in SE, NC, but close enough.

Because no matter what you were doing you make us feel like a friend just going along for the ride, how wonderful is that. So it doesn’t matter if your cooking supper, painting the wall, gardening, showing us The things your husband is up to on the farm, goats, chickens, it’s actually all wonderful because you make us feel like a small part of your big picture. Thank you so much you are a wonderful teacher! And you’re learning center is going to be fabulous!

Baptisia (false indigo) is a lovely native perennial that has a gorgeous upright habit and really interesting seed pods for interest during the off season. They have a deep tap root, are super hardy, drought resistant and long lasting. The foliage is gorgeous and when they bloom in the spring it’s one of my favorite things!

Day lilies are beautiful, low maintenance, and still retain some green in the winter. I live in VA zone 8a, when we bought our house 13 years ago it came with hydrangeas and day lilies in the flower bed. We've done nothing with them except clean them up a bit in the fall, and they're still looking great 13 years later.

One of my favorite hands-off plants is Echinacea. I haven't watered mine all year (we average 44 inches of rainfall a year) or done any tending and it's doing absolutely beautifully. It begins blooming in July here (zone 6) and blooms all the way until first frost. It overwinters without my help and I've never had a plant die on me. I love it for my flower beds that I want to be beautiful but can't spend a lot of time maintaining.

Chalkboard paint is huge fun! Your kids will have a blast with it, and you'll enjoy the artwork and potential for games and fun sayings, etc. A few times we've had trouble erasing, because the art was just too good. We take photos of special masterpieces. Our chalkboard wall is teal colored, and the whole kitchen is bright and fun.

Perennial Salvias / sage. Easy care, drought tolerant. Pollinators love them. The blues and purples make you feel cool. Limelight hydrangeas or panicle type hydrangeas can take the heat and freezing temps. If you don’t want them huge, there are “littles” or dwarf hydrangeas. VLOG it all. The journey is exciting.
