Consider reinforcing the gorgeous stained glass piece! When it was picked up it bowed. This could cause it to crack. Miah could encase it with a wood frame then glass on each side to give it a long life. Wonderful find!

I need a shirt that says “I don’t spend money, I spend time.” Thank you for sharing Matthew with us! I must have missed the memo, but I love his gardens and the philosophy about buying small or starting from seed and watching the progress. It’s so satisfying, just like harvests when you can point to something and say “I grew that!”

Creeping thyme would be a more colourful replacement for the moss that can't be found now. And walking on thyme, releasing that scent into the garden! I wish I had a walking garden space that I could plant some. I only have the ability for a small raised bed, and a balcony full of pots. And that stained glass is amazingggg
@TheSouthernersNorthernGarden

I’ve actually used creeping thyme previously and found it didn’t hold up well, was too invasive, and looked messy to my taste. I spent last year eradicating it from another path. It’s likely it didn’t get enough sun up front to perform well though. But a good suggestion!

@@RootsandRefugeFarm I came to comment about this, too. I used to make stained glass pieces and it should really have a couple pieces of sturdy metal running lengthwise so it can't bow. You should be able to take it to a stained glass shop and they can add that for you. Congrats on your find!

Janice Pritchett makes custom stained glass in Easley, she does amazing work! From free form made from glass bottle ends to a gorgeous hummingbird 3 D one from reclaimed stained glass left on our property, we love her work! See her on Facebook! Thanks for the thought of adding it to the greenhouse, my husband is working on one from glass windows left on our property (it's only trash if you can't use it!) and one of Janice's pieces would be really lovely!

Remember when moving stained glass panels that it's best to carry them vertically (like the way they will be mounted) so the joints are not so stressed. Holding the panels flat to the ground unsupported in the middle can cause them to break. The ones you found are too beautiful to damage getting them back to SC!

As a person that has lived my life (61) in Florida I am ready to leave. Lol I’m in West Central FL and the heat/humidity being 90% of the year it is just getting to hot for me to tolerate. I’m only able to be outside at the most 1 hour in the morning and maybe 30 minutes a couple of other times throughout the day. I have dreams of moving to NC, at least there I wouldn’t have to deal with the heat as long. Good luck on your search. 🙏🏻🙏🏻😊👩🏻‍🌾

Can't wait to see that stained glass in your new shed. My Dad had Brown Turkey Fig tree and they were delicious. You mention having plants and not having a place for them sometimes, we always found a place near but out of the way that we would use as a holding bed, my best friend did this when they moved to their new property; she dug up everything she wanted to take with her and planted it all in the holding bed. Once they were moved in she started planting; this also gave her time to draw up a plan of where she wanted to put each thing.

I bless you Jess for introducing me to Matthew I believe I started watching his channel when he was visiting you one time. Or you said something about his channel on one of your videos. I like both kinds of landscaping your kind and Matthews. As I get older I believe I'm going to have to switch more to the shrubbery type and the permanent type that is less care. I always loved Grandma's hydrangeas but they were an old fashioned floppy variety and they were pretty as a brown but they never had the pinks I like the new varieties. Absolutely love your stained glass and I'm so glad you got it in Ohio. Oh yes we have all sorts of weather and usually when it's hotter than the hinges it's almost always very humid and not being used to it it makes it feel hotter to us so we really gripe about it. Love and God bless both of you

And we've done two stone patios - first in Dallas because there was a sprinkler head we didn't want to move so we just put stone around it. Here in South Carolina it was to transition the deck to the woods, seemed to call for a natural look. It's gorgeous - placing stones is hard work when they're so large and heavy, what a treat that you laid them out at the store. We bought wire wrapped pallets, it took a lot of creativity to lay them to make the most of color and pattern in the stone.

Love his garden! That black iris panel is spectacular! I'm a born and raised Northerner (Minnesota) and let me tell you, as cold as the winter can be, the summer is 🔥 hot 🔥! Humidity is the killer. Also big mosquitoes in some places. I now live in dry and windy Northern Colorado.

Jess what a wonderful time to get away do some writing and refuel. Mathews garden is gorgeous, thanks for the flagstone tip buying by the pound. You love being in your garden and growing food for your family and love being close to the Lord. What a wonderful place to have as a refuge and get away to write and communicate with him. Blessings 🙌

Actually, Justin Williams had the idea but to expound on it a bit, in the area near the swing you can get the big bags of bulbs and toss them out onto the field, where they land, take a trowel and stab a cut, pry it open and jam the bulb in there, then step on it to push the cut closed. You can have a field full of Jonquil blooms in the spring with very little effort that looks planted by God's Hand. You no longer have to deny your love of figs because they will grow great for you in SC, even the wonderful Mission figs!

It’s cool that even the newer parts of his garden look like they’ve been there forever. Loving those variegated grasses for edging.

Oh wow! What a pretty stained glass window! Black iris, come on, that is God's sent! I am glad you got to have fun and write in the same time! Mathew has a beautiful garden and probably will become more so! Tell hime that he should put the fig by the shed on th South side of ir and have it more protected, also he can heavenly mulch it with woodchips or straw. Usually it comes back but you don't want to chance it! Also to be safe get some cuttings and have them in the garage to grow roots every year this way if something happens with the main one he has replacements! Blessings! Hugs🤗🤗❤🤗🤗

What is the best way to take cuttings of figs and when?

@@FurikuriYugi I am not sure when you are supposed to take fig cuttings but they grow really easy. Try it if you have it readily available. Even the suckers if you pull them and plant them will grow. Check out Mike Kincaid's KZbin channel he has a whole bunch of fig propagating videos but really you don't have to do anything special. Good luck!

Jess, get a start of that lariope from Mathew. It will grow like crazy in S.C. and make a fabulous edge for some of your beds. Just a suggestion for your Iris beds. Iris multiply like crazy too sooooo Spread then out well when you plant them and plant some annuals in between for the first year or two. This will give you more color for the entire season. Iris have a short spectacular bloon season and then get pretty boring for the rest of the season. Eventually you could edge the iris bed with Lariope. Try is out in pots first. You may find it spreads too fast in your climate. Mathew's garden is coming along nicely and yes...Ohio has 2 seasons Brutally hot and brutally cold. That is why I moved to the Pacific Northwest. The stained glass is perfect. Great video.

I purposely let everything in my trailer park garden go to seed this year just for the purpose of my future homestead 💖 It all was going to seed before it could produce much crop anyway. Got hot quick this year in zone 6! God has a plan! Can't wait to see your greenhouse 😅

I agree on the figs my nanny (Gma) had a fig tree right out her back door & we would go stay a week or two every summer & go pick a bowl of figs every morning for breakfast & another bowl every afternoon for snack but that’s the only time I can remember eating figs.
