In this video Sayf explains why his goal is NOT FIGHTING in the sense that most people understand it to be. He points out the idea and error of thinking the way we practice Martial arts today fits the reality of street violence. In this video he mentions several martial arts/ approaches including Krav Maga only to point to the need of realistic training, but admits KM is more suited to the transition than many other approaches.

I have trained in many different schools and trained in many different arts over the years, but I am not an expert. However, there are a few things that I have come to understand and appreciate, and the older I get, the more I wish I had an honest hands-on fighter to tell me what worked and what didn't when I was younger. I honestly don't know if I would have listened back then, but there are some glaring truths missing from the dojos/gyms I studied in. Very few dojos that I have trained in are honest about the fact that in a fight you are going to get hurt. Boxing gyms were the only style that I trained in that routinely tried to expose a student to it. Sounds silly, but I trained in judo, tae kwon do, karate, boxing and even though we got hit and were doing pain exercises, we all believed that by doing those arts we would win a fight without getting hurt, and the teachers actively took part in that belief (I know there are schools in all of those styles that probably do it well, but that was the experience I had with the ones I went to). None of the dojos I trained in talked about mental states in a real fight. They did talk about calm and breathing etc but there was never any real talk about what panic does, what adrenaline does in a fight outside the dojo safety. The biggest thing looking back to those years was how all of those schools lead me to believe that mastering ever more complex moves/techniques were making me a better fighter. eg A white belt could throw a straight punch, but only us higher belts could do these intricate moves/kata/techniques/locks/throws etc. I'm not saying this to convert anyone or tell them how to think, but I do wish when I was younger, that someone would have reminded me that the whole point was to win a fight, & not get beaten to death. and that looking good is not what counts, walking away alive is what counts. Sorry for the rant, I'm saying your videos are what people need to be paying attention to. There are a few content providers on youtube I make sure and watch because the advice is good and almost certainly going to help me survive a serious situation. I'm not going to list them here, this is your channel, but you are on that list. Excellent work.

BTW: we poor folks went into the dojo to LEARN to fight. Our parents took not to be baby sat, but to be toughened up. Today, my teachers would have been closed down by the authorities lol.

This is a common situation most modern martial artists find themselves in. It’s a shame to think that the entertainment industry have gassed so many people up just to leave them wanting for fuel miles away from the nearest station. This is what I feel that some martial arts instructors are doing. Not a lot of the arts taught nowadays impart any real self defensive knowledge.

Hands down best advice. Of the many people I know that had a knife pulled on them, only one got away with a Hollywood ending. The rest either got stabbed or slashed before getting away or bleeding out.

Not to tell you what to do, Sayf, but, please, don't worry about repeating yourself. I actually enjoy it when you do, because it's when it sink in for me. Besides, it's part of your style of rethoric. Like I said, I enjoy your way of teaching. Thank you.

Great video sir! As a martial artist my entire life and a "fighter" I get so angry with the "heart" arts. I actually was a huge proponent of mma in its inception having fought submission wrestling, kickboxing and boxing and trained judo ang BJJ after wards but I honestly believe that mma has done amazing damage to martial arts mostly because of the misconception of cage fighting vs street fights. In my experience in and out of a ring as well as my lifelong study of martial arts, strategy and human psychology I think the worst culprits are BJJ! The misconception started with 80 percent of street fights end on ground propaganda. They left out lots of information in that declaration, if both guys are untrained its possible but after punches are thrown so in effect your saying most people are untrained strikers lol, if one guy is trained in striking the ground is not touched. Another point they leave out is street fights are never 1 on 1 so yes after 4 guys land punches on you it might go to the ground. Truth is the ground is worst place to be in a real fight because it eliminates your ability to gain distance, eliminates peripheral vision so you are not struck by another assailant and it makes you unable to see weapons , not to mention even if your winning the concrete or asphalt etc. Is also doing damage to you. The second culprit is muay thai because even though they are a striking art there style is based off aggressive offense and wearing a man down. In order to throw elbows or knees you need to be in close and clinching which produces same issues as bjj in that you lose peripheral vision and weapon awareness. Then I see guys throw leg kicks in a fight which is silly, not only does it throw you off stability on uneven or slippery ground conditions but a leg kick is not a k.o. technique it's used to wear a man down and in my experience I have never seen someone full of adrenaline go down from a single leg kick , it takes 4-5 best case and you don't have that time in the street. I mean no disrespect to the arts but fact is both are for sport ,no matter what the advertisement outside the school says. I personally believe traditional boxing is the best overall art for self defense not modern boxing but historic boxing because it allows you to control distance, keeps you on your feet , let's you view your entire surroundings, ability to see weapons, keeps u on balance and allows you to end an attack quickly and definitely, k.o. is the best way to stop the threat, I'm sure people will argue because of the bad wrap boxing has today and the lack of knowledge of true pugilism) but having been in fighting and in street defense I have zero doubts. Awesome video sir

Love these recent videos. Wish I could show them to some of my idiot friends...namely the one who is my height (5'9"), but is maybe 125 lbs soaking wet with zero muscle mass and no fighting experience (some non-contact karate when he was 12, and zero in the street). Total dumbass, who claims to have "no fear" about fighting in the streets. Not that looks mean anything, but the guy looks like a cross between Justin Bieber, and someone out of a skateboarding catalog. Just trying to paint a complete picture...you can imagine the eye-roll as I'm typing this, but I think we all have that one friend that we love despite him/her being a couple cards short of a full deck. He has some weird beliefs about the "honor system" in street fighting, and (can't make this stuff up) acted like I was the idiot when I told him he should keep his mouth shut about that, because of the inevitability of weapons being involved in street altercations. Anyway.... I've had knives pulled on me. I'm not one to play the victim, but both times I was totally blind-sided. I'm not an idiot, so I never look for fights. At least not since I started boxing. The instance I remember most clearly occurred when I was working the door at a college party. Some guys rolled up who weren't on the list, so I didn't let them in....I wasn't a dick about it. Just told them what the house policy was, and that my hands were tied. Most of them got it and walked down the street to the next house, but one stayed. Started giving me lip, which I didn't respond to. Then, he pulled a knife out and said "Gimme your bread." I gave him a flat "No," but took a small step back. Like I am now, I was training 2-plus hours a day, but I knew it wouldn't help too much. My taking the step back was mainly with the hope that he would lunge and I'd be able to take advantage of him over-reaching and being off balance. Never broke eye contact though. After what felt like minutes, he turned and walked away. I was prepared to hurt the kid...badly. But I also knew the flip side of that. If things went wrong for me, the consequences would be dire. My point is that I agree with what you're saying. Street fighting is something entirely on its own, and people can lose their lives for the sake of proving their own masculinity. Stupidity at its finest. And don't worry...I told my friend that if he starts some shit just for the sake of starting something, he's on his own. I love him, but I feel like he's long overdue to learn a lesson. I'm not risking all of that for someone else's idiocy.

never noticed repeating yourself tbh, i always enjoyed the videos and i am very sensitive to bullshito and people who waste my time with way to long a build up to their point and repeating same thing over and over . I honestly didnt notice it in your videos. I hear you repeating WORDs which is just your habit that i have no issue with, which is a completely different thing. I can tell difference between a guy talking naturally and being condescending.
