The LEGENDARY Helen Reddy (R I P), was still able to sing this CLASSIC song, in the same key as the original, well into her 70's.

Helen Reddy died in September, 2020, aged 78. She had a string of hits over the years in Australia and America where she resided for many years. I am Woman was probably her biggest hit. It was released in 1972 and here we are, 50 years later and the song still resonates with women everywhere. Another great anthem!

On stage in order of performance Jess Mauboy, Amy Shark, Marcia Hines, Tones and I, Kate Cebrano, Montaigne, The McLymonts, Delta Goodrem, Christine Anu, Emma Watkins from The Wiggles. On the screens Dami Im, Missy Higgins, Kate Miller-Heidke and I’m certain there are others. This was performed at the Aria Awards (Kind of like Australia’s Grammys) in 2020, so it was during covid, hence only a small number of the actual performers appeared there in person. It was a tribute to Helen Reddy who died earlier that year.

One thing I love is that they are all dressed in their own style. Amy Shark and Tones and I are very casual. Marcia, Delta, Jess etc are all glammed up. Montaigne in some Avant Garde number with a crown and blue velvet gloves, Emma dressed like a Disney princess, The McLymonts in like country glam. Love it 🥰

The depth in Australian music is amazing. Sure there are the big stars, but go to a theater production, as I did today, and I discovered a sensational voice from someone I had never heard of before. The production was set in the Depression era and the music had a strong gospel feel to much of it. Bob Dylan wrote the music, but it was the cast that set the music on fire.

@ThatSingerReactions 5:22 "Not the 'Frozen Disney Princess, but respect to her!" lol That's, till recently, "The Yellow Wiggle" from the children's music and entertainment group and global phenomenon from Australia, that is: "The Wiggles"! Many young children and their parents of the world since the 90s and especially 00s will be well familiar, atleast with them and especially their 'Big Red Car' and that Dinosaur who goes by the name, "Dorothy" - BTW After Delta @ 4:33 Apparently that's the Aussie legend that is Christina Anu - I'm SURE an Aussie has requested for you to check her out and would be very surprised if not - especially her mega-hit here from late 90s, her cover of 'My Island Home' - which interestingly, I see you have JUST reacted to the original version, from Warumpi Band, 2 days ago! Performing a cover of ABBA's "Dancing Queen" leading to ROFLMAO hilarious, Aussie Golfing great, Greg Normal standing on a giant mechanical shark, jaws theme and hitting golf balls into audience, with audio of some dance remix of Sherbet's mid-70s Aussie chart hit, "Howzat?" playing faintly in the background, "Well Howzat? It's..." Fore, looks like? Greg was having a great time out there lols Then followed by a float in the parade of the Aussie children's show characters, another popular export, Bananas in Pyjamas lols- You couldn't make this stuff up lols - YEap, Elle McPherson on a giant camera with a contemporary Aussie dance group's hit, "Don't Call Me Baby" playing in the background and 2:15:20 Paul Hogan in his Croc Dundee outfit on a Giant float replicating his hat and Icehouse's "Great Southern Land' playing in the background lols from one model to another, modelling with his knife and whip, surrounded by people in Blue bulls outfits riding push scooters lols 1:18:10 fittingly following the "Priscilla: Queen of the Desert" film tribute/float, Kylie again, in a different outfit, with "On a Night Like This" 2:21:35 Men At Work performing their famous, "Down Under" 2:23:45 or so, all the other artists etc come out on-stage with them, Kylie and Nikki Webster dancing together, so sweet like sisters, Midnight Oil, Amarosi, Bananas in fn Pyjamas, Greg Norman, Hoges as Dundee and.. Then an Australian country music and just music legend, Slim Dusty singing Bajo Patterson's 'Waltzing Matilda', audience whole heartedly singing along! "And this concludes the ceremony" and my associated annotations and commentary - Dom you may love that ceremony, so many of our artists that you have already checked out :) Don't have to React to it, just watch it for a fun little nugget in history! Nostalgia, that was 22 years ago, The Sydney 2000 Olympics and the New Millennium, all that optimism :) Not to end with downer, but just a month later, some of that optimism for the next century came crashing, pardon pun, with September 11 :'(

Helen Reddy paved the way for all of these artists but when she did the song it actually meant something historically and culturally, I don't think that most of these artists had a clue about the importance or relevance of the song when it was released in 1971. It became the anthem for the Women's Rights Movement in the early 1970's. You still haven't properly heard the song unless you hear the original by Helen Reddy herself! Anything else is just a bad copy. Trust Me. This tribute version actually reeks in comparison.
