Che linda folía! Are Ferdinando Valdambrini the musician and Ferdinando Valdambrini the painter the same person? And what about Francesco Valdambrini, is he a descendant?

I really like the sound of the Colascione basso. What's the history of the instrument.

Thank you dear Lars. We love it too. It's a instrument part of the lute's family, often used by pluckers to play together.

I do know that :-) but when was it "invented" and is it only music from a certain period and country that needs the Colascione.

It's been invented in Italy and most used in Commedia dell'arte and by italian lute-players around Europe!

The colascione was developed from Arabic long-necked lutes and still plays with this heritage. Depending on the tuning and amount it is an instrument that is easy to learn. Historical instruments have 2-6 single strings (no courses) and especially the six-stringed colascione has the same tuning as a modern classical guitar just one octave lower (16' instead of an 8').
