Hi everyone! Many of you know that I became a software engineer without a computer science degree. However, so much has changed since I told that story I wanted to re-tell it with additional details. A lot of people wonder how to get a job in tech with no degree, well in 2021, there are so many options to do so. People are learning to code by being self taught, going to coding bootcamp, learning through videos, etc. and many are now realizing you really don’t need a computer science degree to become a software developer!
I have had this channel for almost 1 year now and I feel that I can tell this story much better than I did during my first ever video. My channel is devoted to providing insight into life as a software engineer, ways to learn to code, coding bootcamp, and how to get a tech job and so I wanted to make sure my story sharing how I did so was engaging and informative.
I’m so appreciative of all that has happened in the last year! I’ve gotten a job at a company I adore, I’ve learned and further developed my coding skills, and met some amazing people along the way. I created Colr Consulting to help you all obtain that same success regarding your career transition. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!

// WHO IS THE BLACKFEMALE ENGINEER
I’m Naya and I recently switched from finance to software engineering in just 6 months! Within those months, I learned how to code when I had no prior tech experience and got my dream job at a company 99% of people know or interact with. My goal is to be a resource for people who are struggling with their career shift journey. I also aim to aid current CS and software engineering students and those in their early career by sharing my experience, advice, and answering the questions you have!

Your story is what inspired me to join a coding bootcamp!!! I just recently graduated with a degree and Economics and I had no interest in it whatsoever. After I saw Bukola's video, I went through a KZbin spiral and came across your channel. After watching some videos, I got hope that the bootcamp was the right thing to do. I'm now 4 weeks in and love love love it. It's surely a struggle but as I see from you, hard work pays off. I'm so happy for your progress and hope I, too, can reach that soon!

Oh wow I'm so glad you're loving bootcamp!! I've shared projects I did during bootcamp in a previous video so let me know if that's what you mean or if you mean some new ones. Aside from work I focus mostly on KZbin and my new business but once I start building out more solo projects I'll definitely keep it in mind to share them with you all😊 Thank you soooo much for your kind words it seriously warms my heart knowing that you took the leap after watching my videos and other videos of women in tech💛

Claudia, that’s a pretty cool story. Good luck to you on your journey. It’s interesting that you asked for a code-with-me video. I didn’t realize this was something people really watch. Thank you for opening my eyes. I’m new on this journey…like html and css new. But, I decided on building a personal project or two after each skill I learn. So the process is taking me longer than expected. But I enjoy it. Thanks you to all you amazing people sharing your stories 🙏🏾 it has impact. Im inspired to do the same.

I’m currently doing my pre-work to start my SE immersive for General Assembly. Previously tried App Academy and it was extremely challenging. This time my bootcamp is actually sponsored by Microsoft and is part time so I can really take my time with the material. My background is English and I taught high school, but I’ve been working toward this career change for about a year now. Thank you for your videos, they’re quite informative and give great perspective!

First of all Bukola & I are best friends in my mind, she’s so smart & funny lmaoo. I really hope to see bootcamps become more popular as an option out of high school in the future. I feel just like you, other ppl only stumble upon the idea of a boot camp by accident & wish it wasn’t like that.

Hahaha girl ditto😂 But yes! I was literally just talking to my mom about this saying how unfortunate it is that I didn't even know this was a thing until I went through my 4 years of college. I graduated bootcamp in September and I’ve just been studying DSA since. I was fairly confident because I built a full CRUD project for capstone, but now I’m feeling like there’s so much more to learn because I attempted to contribute to an open source project and I have no idea how to even fix any of the issues on GitHub. I’m just eager to get a job now so I can start learning how real professionals do things rather than just making CRUD apps

I may think about flatiron school if my sort of kind of self taught career route doesn’t work. I just want to wait until December 2022 when my student loan debt is gone. I’m still hoping I can do this but I will sign up for your career coaching because I do feel stuck.

Yes definitely don't feel like you *need * to go to bootcamp! I always say that I wish I could've done this self-taught but my brain and just soul is not programmed that way and I just couldn't do it without going through an institution like a bootcamp😩 So many people do this self taught so please keep your head up and keep up the amazing work. And yay I'm looking forward to future 1 on 1s with you😊💛

Spring 2020 was definitely beginning of the end of my career in tv. It has been CRAZY. My last day was August 13. Good thing is I can always go back to any news station in the US if I get desperate. I've always been involved in limited coding since I was a tot but I could never stick with an actual program to learn in full. I've purchased a more structured course offering accountability earlier in the summer which actually starts today. I'm eying a second recently discovered course that's full stack, so I plan to be busy for at least the next year. I'm not ambitious enough to go bootcamp pace. I'm not sure I'll be a professional developer in the end of all this, but it's worth a shot. Bukola is impressive. Love seeing all these women making it. I've always been a part of communities dominated by males of other culture, so it's quite refreshing. Thank-you
