Things I dont understand, youre always like “I need a 4x4 truck around here!“ Then you go and blow money on this mid-life crisis mobile. You couldve had such a nice truck for the price of this thing. That, and you just had a problem Chrysler and literally everyone told you Fiat Chryslers are junk, then you go and get another one.

From a reliability perspective, a 50k mi 4Runner = 0 mi Challenger. The money you’ll loose in repairs and more importantly DEPRECIATION, would more than offset the additional “Toyota tax”. Don’t get me wrong, my Hemi Grand Cherokee is my fav car EVER, it’s just been in the shop more than it should be. I had a Wrangler with the 3.6 and loved it, and have no doubt you’ll live yours (until you hate it 😂).

The 1GR-FE in the current 4Runners are legendary. Been in use for decades and for good reason. They REGULARLY hit 400k+ miles without touching internals. The A750E/F transmission they're paired with are also bulletproof. As far as a long-term investment goes, I believe the 4Runner would have been the best choice by far. That being said, the Challenger is fairly reliable. The Pentastar V6s are solid and I haven't heard too many complaints from the transmission either. It should last you a long time. I just hope that when the time comes to buy a truck or SUV, you stay the hell away from GM and Mopar lol.

I traded it in for a WRX 4 years ago and it’s been pretty good but the overall height of the vehicle makes it sometimes sketchy even though it’s AWD. Bought a 2020 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack (Brand New from Dealer) about 7 months ago and have had nothing but issues. Transmission problems 3 times and a powersteering issue they still can't fix. The automatic transmission in the Scat Pack is the same as the Hellcat and I'm not sure if the power steering is shared between the models. Keep a lookout for soft shifts, loss of drive (thrown back into neutral), gears sticking (won't shift out of 5th even after putting it in park and back into drive) and powersteering squeaks at low speeds. With all that said, I wish you the best Jeff. Many people out there have this model and don't have the issues I've seen.

I have a 2011 392 SRT8 Challenger with lots of mods. My best friend has a 2015 100th Anniversary SXT (V6). We both are right around the 70k mile mark. My car is only driven at one speed... WARP speed. I wear out all four tires every 7k miles. My friend has driven his RWD V6 daily through SWPA winters on dedicated winter tires since he bought it in 15. Neither of our vehicles have had any major issues. One of my friends Cat's was starting to rattle at 70k miles. The emissions system is covered for 10 years/100K by law. They replaced the headpipe/cat no questions asked. The only thing I've replaced on my car besides many sets of tires, was the door handles under the first year recall. The Challenger has been properly sorted for YEARS it's been on the market since late 07 and it's based on the proven Mercedes W120 chassis. The 300/Magnum/Charger/Challenger is one of the very few GOOD things that Chrysler got from Mercedes. The 3.6 Pentastar is proven, the Zed F transmissions are proven... Even the AWD system has been proven for many years in the AWD Chargers and the Minivans.

Thanks for understanding the abrasive comments, ultimately it was a decision the wife and you had to make and it sounds like you did good research. I hope this is the best car you ever had. I’ve been in the car business for years and am now selling Honda’s. I can say that from my experience your money would have been better spent on a CRV or rav4 because I’m willing to bet you’ll have some type of issue within the first year of owning the car. Not hating just saying in the future maybe do a bit more research as I think most people know you’ll never see 100k miles without any major issues from a dodge.

You are exactly right Jeffery, you can do your homework and avoid lemons, but there are lemons in all of them. Your challenger is very nice. Do your maintenance like I know you will, but with this car pay extra attention to electrical connections and components, but especially the all wheel drive system, have it examined yearly. All wheel drive can be great, but also very costly and troublesome if not maintained properly. So Happy for you man, I know how you are feeling, I've always had to keep shit on the road that most people would have given up on long ago. Good luck and enjoy it, you deserve it.

We all have to rationalize our choices for ourselves. There is nothing wrong with that. You bought a car you could live with. That means that you are willing to sacrifice some reliability for actually liking the vehicle on an emotional level. So long as you are willing to make that trade, that is fine. One of my very best friends has a 2018 Camaro SS and he knows it will cost him to operate it. I love that car but I would never own one because the demands of it are outside my comfort level, even as a weekend car. Price and financing, you are funny. $29k on a used car but you won't go get a brand new Toyota or Honda that sells for the same price. But again, clearly up to you and what you decided to take for a length of payback. I wouldn't be caught dead in a Nissan Juke or Cube so if they were the "bestest evar" I would not own it regardless, so I get it if looks was that big of an issue for you. On safety, you are only OK with that car. www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/Dodge/challenger-2-door-coupe/2019 Basically, don't roll it and don't get hit edge on (EVER). The weight of a vehicle means exactly jack squat when it comes to actual safety. (For the record, only one FCA product has ever made it onto the IIHS top safety pick and that was the 2021 RAM. It should also be noted that your 200 was actually safer.) As for your understanding on measuring reliability and risk, I will still argue that you don't get it. Reliability is a numbers game. Samples of one don't matter. You can make all your one off experience comments till the cows come home. They don't matter. Toyota is #1 period. It is the most boring lottery ticket ever. You will win basically every time but it will be boring. Honda is a little less boring and a little less reliable but still #2 or #3 overall and on the long term. The Challenger is indeed the most reliable FCA product considering its numbers and therein lies the devil in the details. The average ownership of one in the US is only 63,000 miles. About half the industry average. You would be wise, if it doesn't cause you any headaches by the time the warranty is out, to either relegate it to being a weekend car or sell it before it becomes a boat anchor. Fiat's joke name in England is "Fix It Again Tony" and for a good reason. Chrysler was never all that good on the overall so two low quality companies becoming one, well not a great place to put ones trust (I was raised on Chrysler, this is why I am indeed a Honda guy as an adult and why my parents ended up becoming Honda people too as it was just a never ending run of watching them fix their Chryslers and then GM products after I had moved out.) But at the end of the day, enjoy your new ride as it was what you determined was the choice you were most willing to live with.

I don't understand the requirement for low mileage. Sure an FCA car might have issues up there in mileage but the 4Runner and Rav4 chug along just fine at 100k, 150k, 200k miles. Now that said, as long as your car makes you happy then it's a fine choice, it's just that it sounds like you're making up "logical" reasons to not get some good options that don't really make sense. Might as well just say they just didn't feel right and that you went with your heart in the end.

too be fair there are those engines that have 300+ thousand miles on them. the 3.6 are very easy to work on as well. keep an eye on the fuel pump past 110k miles. it WILL fail. The other issues tend to be the rocker arms. if you hear ticking coming from the engine take it to the dealer, especially if it has under 100 k miles
@MegaAaronProductions

The 3.6 has been around forever now because it doesn't cost FCA much. When an engine comes back for warranty work often it costs them money so they change it. The 3.6 doesn't have many issues so they'll let it run until emissions forces it out.

I was so gung-ho about buying a Tacoma b/c they look badass and are 'reliable' , but in the back of my head I also wanted a diesel. So going against all odds of being set on a Tacoma, I got a Chevy Colorado diesel. It still looks badass, and I get 30+ mpg highway. I was almost certain I would never buy domestic, but hey, it happened. At the end of the day, all mechanical devices will fail at some point. It puts a smile on my face every time I get in it and that is all that matters at the end of the day. The only reason to to buy a certain brand is not because of their vehicle reliability but because of the way they treat their customers with warranty claims when/if something does go wrong. GM doesn't have a great track record with this but I know how to fix most things on vehicles.

I've driven stick shift all my life, then I bought an EV in 2016 and I don't miss it one bit. So it's perfectly fine to prefer automatic gear boxes. Did you consider trying for a full electic car before going for the Dodge? You might have liked it. :)

Hey Jeff congrats on the new car. Haters gonna hate! It's your money, spend it how you want to I always say! I have to disagree with you tho, its definitely NOT an SUV. It's a really cool coupe with AWD. It'll probably handle great in 3" of snow but it lacks height/clearance for a lot of the white stuff. Regardless, enjoy and Happy Motoring

haters are not hating they like my self are trying to help from falling to another fiat fix it pit... and yes awd does not = suv has to be atleast resemble a wagon crossver type thing but really imo its not a "real suv" unless its body on frame or at least a resembles a truck /utility vechile

Jeff, I truly do wish the best for you. I hope from the bottom of my heart that this vehicle works out perfectly for you, you deserve it. Car trouble absolutely SUCKS! You are correct that each vehicle from any company is an individual vehicle and can have problems. But Fiat Chrysler does have a track record for not being great for a reason. It’s unfortunately been proven. With that said, I’m sure it will be a great vehicle for a long time.

True story: Bought Mom a used 2012 Rav4. 4WD. Drive her home in it 1300 miles because I wanted it to break down with me in it if it was going to. 3am, the entire lower rear transfer case blows up like a huge fire ball going 75mph.
