I'm always amazed at what some people will do to things. My first shovel, a 79 fxef, that I bought in 86 was only 7 years old, but the amateur hacks on the bike looked like somebody had been modifying the bike for decades. I still own it too! Since it's easy for me to not value my time like I should, I always end up putting in a lot of (free) labor up front and avoid buying any parts initially. Just getting things cleaned up and presentable to really know where you're at on a project like this will bring you more money for it in the long run.

Making this a business here’s some ideas: save all receipts. Record mileage. Register as a business. All expenses considered tax deductible. Depreciate new shop. Remember the business isn’t limited to just flipping the bikes and parts, the channel is the business too. A third option for this Sportster could be just as parts inventory to be used on future flips. Or use it to trade or clean it up a bit and sell it for a $1k which would be a 43% return.

Realistically how much could you get for it running? My Marketplace (Phoenix) is littered with 1500-2500 running 1200 sportsters. I would think this one will be destined for a chopper. @@vorhese I sold a running, riding "needs nothing" 2001 883 for 3800 in the spring. Some videos of that bike on this channel. I'd restore it as much as needed to make it turn-key again. And likely keep it. but to resell it turn-key would be the best option. Otherwise, selling it as a project will see it go from garage to garage, and likely parted out. Somebody that didn't know what they were doing, likely with little mechanical aptitude tried to FIY it.
