I loved my 2008 Road Glide. I wanted to trade it in and got severely low balled. A newer used RG was running $25k-$30k. Not in my budget. Seems like HD forgot those of us who helped build the brand.

It’s a great machine. The biggest reason I went with the BMW R18 Classic was foot position. At my age (65) I can’t do forward controls any more. Anything beyond 30 minutes just wreaks havoc on my lower back.

I have tried all different Harleys. Heritage wins every time I’ve tried other makers tour ours but mss the Heritage o easy to ride fast enough for fun but safe and easiest bike to give a pillion to. Sad to admit but when my Deauville needs replacement it’s a heritage I’m looking for. Keep your ride’s rubber side down.

Yup, my favorite Harley was a 1999 Heritage Classic. The last of the evo’s. It couldn’t handle, brake or accelerate, but it delivered feedback that still is unsurpassed and unmatched today.

I just tallied up personalizing a Road King Special, from bike purchase price to engine upgrades, to exhaust, cam, tuner, to custom paint, wheels, etc… it’s about a $48k spend. Not concerned with selling the bike down the road, just enjoy personalizing my bike, and throwing down the miles.

I had a heritage rode it 55,000 miles I do own and live the road glide now .. my son owns a heritage… I love the heritage though it’s capable of long or short rides .. has cruise control detachable windshield bags for storage an is an extremely easy to handle motorcycle… I always highly recommend that model of bike because it ( in my opinion) is very easy to handle and still offers so much

Doodle! I have a 2018 Heritage and I LOVE it!! They’re SO flexible. I am the opposite of you: 6’3”, and with their Tallboy seat, I’m more comfortable on my bike than a Roadking. And it’s more fun. I have both a tall sissy bar just to stick my helmet on and a Viking Tourpack for trips. Be a great bike for you!

I’ve owned a cafe racer, 750 cruiser, R6, fz09, and a 1300 cruiser. Plus I’ve ridden probably 20 other bikes on test rides. I know test rides don’t give a lot of time, but out of everything I would buy another FZ09. With a $150 windscreen, $30 throttle “lock” for temporary cruise control, and whatever set of bags you want. You get good performance, great ride, comfortable, reliable, and cost effective.

First Harley was a Road King (2000), next was a Street Glide (2007), then Road Glide (2009), then another Street Glide (2013). Then I stopped riding for a few years. This time I wanted something a little more nimble than the big touring line, so I picked up a 2014 Fatboy Lo (FLSTFB) with less than 5k miles and a detachable windshield and leather bags. I'm replacing the bags with hard-sides and I couldn't be happier with how it handles. There's a time and place for big tourers, but then sometimes you just want to get on a lighter/shorter bike with a lower center of gravity so you can feel every twist, turn, and bump in the road. I absolutely love the feel of the Softail frame. Good luck on your decision.
@myronmosley21672 жыл бұрын
The HD Heritage Classic is a nice ride. Me personally I’m more than likely going with the Indian Springfield Dark Horse which is more akin to the Road King, but I’m also 6 feet tall. The HD Heritage Classic or the Indian Super Chief would probably fit you better, based off your commentary on the cruisers you’ve ridden.
@charlesharper7292 Жыл бұрын
The Heritage is a very good choice for a touring bike if you don't want to deal with the extra weight or suspension height. You will hear, "you can lower the road king." But you loose suspension travel, you will be scraping floor boards sooner, and compromising ride comfort.

I said it before, and that road King you had in Florida is my dream bike. But before our fell in love with the Road King I was in love with the Heritage. The Road King is on a different frame and supposedly is a better long-distance cruiser. But the heritage is really nice too.

I’m not an expert but from what I’ve heard (not sure if this has been covered here), the heritage frame is not a touring frame, the road king is. The road king is like the road and street glides. Another thing to consider is that if the heritage wheels are a true spoke wheel, it has a tube in it so you can’t just use a plug kit. I’ve had to plug my wheel a couple times and it was super easy. Unlike having to pull the heritage wheel and replace the tube. Some say just use the fix a flat slime but it says on bottle not for use on motorcycles. I’d say the road king is a better way to go between the 2. However you can handle the road Glide just fine.

You won't find an "old school" dealership anymore. If you want a solid warranty and professional service,(most dealerships), you're looking at buying from a dealership. Unless you can find a late model, hopefully the particular bike you are hunting well maintained with low mileage and some warranty still left. Also if you are financing, it's easier to buy new than used, provided your credit isn't beat up.
@dakarpsi2 жыл бұрын
I ended up picking up a nightster, it's one of the cheapest to get new, you have to spend a little more for bags, but it's blacked out and it's fast and it handles better than most of the other Harleys. I'm pretty sure you could flat foot it too.

In 2018 I turned 66 and decided I wanted a new HD, but not a stereo system. At that time I was looking at the Heritage and the Deluxe. The Heritage came with bags and cruise control, the Deluxe was loaded with chrome and I later learned the Heritage had a longer shock absorber travel in the rear, 3" as opposed to 2" for the Deluxe. I bought my first HD when I was 15, a 1942 WLA, actually it was my very first vehicle. To make a long story short and my long journey with HD, I chose the chrome! I still have it and have completely built it into a mostly Heritage. I also changed the shock to 3" for more comfort. I love this bike and wouldn't hesitate to ride it across the country. I also changed the seat for a passenger and duel fishtail muffled exhaust. I'm 70 years old now and still going strong. PS, I would go with the Heritage if I was picking for you, you would love it.

Nice. I'm trying to decide between an Indian Springfield, Roadmaster, and Pursuit. The Springfield is a direct comparison to the RoadKing/Heritage. The Roadmaster is somewhere between the Ultra Limited and CVO Road Glide Limited. The Pursuit is a Challenger with full Touring Trim and basically a water-cooled Roadmaster - with a few differences. If I get the Springfield, I need to add a trunk and and I'd want the remote locking - so about +3K (and now it's only 4K less than a Pursuit) I wouldn't have the Ride Command or Stereo and I'd have a windshield instead of a fairing with a Power Adjust Windshield. It's Scary how fast the price goes up with you start adding to/modding these bikes. I don't care about the Stereo (probably because I've never used one on a motorcycle) - I like my Garmin for Nav, but that 7" screen is sure nice. Then again - the simplicity of not having all the electronic dodads...

H-D announced the Sportster 883 models will soon be discontinued. Not considering the Tri-Glide, Sportster, and the Pan-American. H-D now offers only two (2) frame platforms. The Softail models and the Touring models. The Frame within each model line is the same. The accessories like engine displacement, footboards, seats, handle bars, windshields, fairings, saddle bags, gas tanks, fenders, front forks, wheels, etc. are what varies to produce the different models. The accessories within a specific model affect the weight of the bike, and thus the performance and ride feel. However, it's still a Softail model frame or a Touring model frame. They all feel and ride differently.

$55K & my two decades old Triumph Daytona 955i stock can shut it down in a quarter mile drag. For less then ten percent of that. One owner, 12K mikes. You can have your chrome clothes horse. Might like a V rod or a Sportster S but if I paid that much I would hope to get a sub 12 second bike at least. My Daytona with Stage 1 plus a Matt Capri dyno tune out to chop a bit off of 11 stock. I realize acceleration doesn’t matter that much to every rider but it does to me. And I don’t want to have to get sponsors to bould a sleeper bike that conceivably could run around ten flat normally aspirated with a speed shifter.
