I did the opposite I bought a mint C6 Z06 with 30K miles for $40K, put $8500 in the engine including total upgrade of the heads, Cam, headers, high flow airbox, Cat delete, plugs wires, and a tune, for 700 plus HP. It’s a street monster and still gets 20 mpg on the road.
@joshreynolds729Ай бұрын
I prefer the way you did it. What's the point in keeping it stock? Andvwhen you have that many miles ones the car the motor isn't the only concern the rest of the car becomes a problem. So even though it works after all that money the question is for how long and thats at relatively stock levels. The way you did it is the best way but you take the hit on the initial buy for a good representation that won't nickle and dime you to death. Now if you were to build a race car fully I would say go the other way to save on the initial cost as your going to strip it down anyways to bare block change the trans and rebuild it fully. But for a quick street car you nailed it brother. Nice street build 👍 timeless platform.

Tony great video. I’m 76 and I bought my first Corvette in 1965. It was a 396 425 coupe. I’m currently driving my 24 Z06 and I drive it every day. For me that’s mostly to the grocery store and to the doctors office, but that’s my life now. Of course I do still drag race my cars although it is now still too hot in Florida to get a decent time but I expect that I’ll be running mid to high 10’s in a couple more months in Florida. I used to modify my C2’s and C3’s but the electronics and fuel systems of the newer cars are Beyond my skill level. Plus I do drive every day. I previously had a C7 06 that I also loved. If someone wants to modify the car, I would suggest that you buy either C6 or C7 LS or a C6 or C7 Z06 and go from there. The C8 Z06 is pretty much maximized in all areas and of course the tuning code hasn’t been broken yet, and it’s not like the C7 where you could put a bigger blower pulley and a tune bland pick up another 100 to 125 hp.. So if you want to do some real modification, I could not recommend the C8 Z06 so I guess the C7 would be the greatest pick if you want to go big horsepower. they don’t even make a drag radial for my rim size yet and switching to a smaller wheel. It’s just too expensive. As they say “the juice ain’t worth the squeeze.“ I have always daily driven all my Corvette since 1965. It’s based upon the fact that all these cars might cost more than normal so Why park them in the garage when you can drive it all day. Even when I live in Michigan they hey got driven in winter also. Of course here in Florida that’s not a problem. Thanks for your work.

I got a base c6 this summer. Low mileage stone stock, and I love it! I am a little older(almost 50) but I don’t care. It’s always been bucket list car for me……and for me even the ls3 is a great engine. Corvettes are fun!
@isnowyaznАй бұрын
I got a manual 2008 (first year LS3 C6 model release) base model C6, and the thing I’ve been gambling with having issues with, even with low mileage, was the clutch master cylinder and clutch line. I ended up still luckily having the factory clutch slave cylinder still working, and I went through 3 different AC Delco and GM CMC’s; and then replaced the stock clutch line, with a Tick stainless steel braided clutch line. It’s also still on the stock clutch and flywheel (universal Gen III/IV LS parts), which is still holding up well. It’s a LOT more work if you have to do the clutch/flywheel and/or the CSC and other trans work… I ended up adding a speed bleeder line for the slave cylinder, to save myself the trouble of trying to bleed the clutch from under the car… But ultimately, the factory CMC is by far, kinda subpar for what it’s worth… Other aftermarket upgrades apparently also don’t hold up in the long run; and I don’t plan on tracking the car or drag racing it any time soon (only has 39k miles at the moment!), so I plan on replacing the clutch hydraulics in the future with all brand new OEM parts again. I’m so paranoid of the CMC going out, that I was debating replacing that in the future as well….

I used to have a 2011 Z06, road tripped it all over the USA, tracked it a bunch, it was a blast. With higher-temp pads I could never get the brakes to stop squealing no matter what I tried- grease, new slide pins, different rotors, new calipers. I would have swapped pads for street and track but you lose the quick pad change on those PBR calipers when you go to one-piece pads. I was looking at aftermarket big brake kits when I sold it. The LS7 is an all-time great engine. The sound, the torque, the way it revs out. Combine that with a 3100lb curb weight, crazy composites and magnesium and aluminum everywhere, monster tire sizes, huge brakes, great suspension, there’s nothing else like it. Look forward to seeing your journey with the car!

You mentioned the top speed of over 190, Chevrolet had a chance to make this the first 200 mile per hour factory Corvette but Tadge Juechter, the genius behind the Corvette wanted better brake cooling so he sacrificed that extra top speed for that iconic 200 mark so it would be a better track performer! Tony, most brake noise doesn't come from the pad on the rotor it comes from metal on metal contact whether it be the back of the pad touching the caliper or the ends of the pads touching slides or whatever... That's why it's very important to use brake lubricant like sil glide on any contact surfaces... The pads do move around a little bit and they're designed to do so... That's what causes the noise when things are dry.

Also check out Utuber Chris Sullivan. He rebuilt a c6 Z06 with a 5.3 twin turbo. 👍👍👍

I've worked on alot of corvettes. I would push the pistons in using the old pads while its still mounted on the car. With small pry bars/screwdrivers. Safe for the coating and logo. There's a copper paste gm sells to lube the pads. It works. The seats usually look wrinkly when youre done. Park it outside in the sun with the windows up. The seat back on those is usually sloppy forward and backward movement. Interior work is much easier with the roof removed! Can't wait to see you drive this thing on the limit.

Good job Tony! You do well going through and showing how a real life build goes. Sometimes things don’t go as planned. Good to see that you are keeping it real. I’ve always looked at the corvette as the GM holy grail and leaned towards it as the one to buy as the personal toy. I think you have confirmed that with this video. Someday I want to do the same thing. Thanks for keeping your videos authentic and showing the trials and tribulations that occur during a build. I find that all the time after market parts do not fit as described and you end up with results that are less than you expected.

I live in Detroit. When i was in high school, a friend of mines father worked for GM. He was in product development. He often got to bring home company cars from the stable, one of which was a 2008 zo6. One friday, that friend, brought it to mutual friends house, and let me jump in the drivers seat to take him for a ride, because I could drive a manual significantly better than either of them. I'll never forget that 130mph pull down telegraph! 😂 I'll always have a special place in my heart for these beautiful machines.

did a 140mph pull down telegraph... will never forget that night in the Dearborn Heights jail.

500 lb-ft of torque and only 3100 lbs NEVER gets old lol. It's the perfect amount of weight, power, torque, aero, suspension, speed, stiffness, and driver involvement to be an absolutely bonkers car for any level of driver. It was absolutely world-beating for its time - and still is today. Taking a C6 Z06, caging it, adding carbon ceramic brakes, and dropping in a stroker LT1 engine turns that up to 600/600 with ease, and upgrading to magnetic ride suspension basically turns it into a rocketship on rails with modern tires because it's so light for the amount of tire it can stuff underneath it.

It's cool that you got a Z06. It's also cool that you bought some parts from / did a mini collab with Lee. You both have cool channels. Keep kicking ass Tony.

Love it! I had a 2007 ZO6. Mine was red! Truly an animal! I believe that these are the best vehicles out there. Period! I was a GM engine and drive line specialist when these came out. I used to tell people that if GM built all their automobiles as well as the C6 Corvette that they would put all their competitors out of business. A bit of hyperbole I know, but they are seriously good and incredibly competent! Jack Henderson

Hey guys great video! I have an 05 base Z51 with swapped 08 Z06 transmission and a 13 GS diff that I put 3:90 gears as I autocross the car and the lower gears give me a bit more grunt out of the corners. I run an 18" 315 square setup on my car for autocrossing. But with 18's in the rear the traction system will freak out because of the rear tires being a smaller diameter. Your options are turn the traction and stability off or run it in competition mode to keep the car from cutting power while driving. As other's have said 315's are small to run on a wide body in the rear. Hope this helps and keep the good videos coming!😉

Crazy pickup, the price to performance for what you paid is unbeatable. The ideal tire setup if your running 18s for track use is 315s upfront and 335 rears. With 19" wheels you can do 295 upfront and 325/345 rear. 315 works but is abit small.

That car is a beast for 20K, and I love the red seat accents and silver wheels. There was way too much black for my taste.

Refreshing to see real struggles to get to the final product you imagined. Setbacks are a part of life, you guys just buckle down and push forward to resolve them. Not a Vette person, but still impressed with what performance you get out of this beast!

Glad to see this amazing car in this channel. I think people shy away from it because of the valve guide issues. Just do oil analysis every oil change. Check the valve guides for wear, maybe 10k even the heads were fixed. Been dreaming of this car for a while.

This is just one of the reasons I love stay tuned ,Tony and the guys could have easily fixed all those issues and edited out all the mistakes but they maned up and fixed them with all of us watching,love you guys……… the only thing that I’m upset about is I believe I heard Tony say he sold the Mercedes and I for one thought that car was tough ,but all good things are made to come to an end, I’m loving this corvette 💯🇺🇸💪✌️

I've wanted a c5 for years after having a 400hp 1.8t miata and i finally got one about a month ago. Watching through snowcone really got my jollies going but this c6 is really making me pitch a tent. my c5 will be a replacement for my miata being a all around street car daily that see's the occasional drift day. Actually just ordered up an angle kit for it and am going to be rebuilding the front end while i'm in there.

The track pads are probably the reason they squeal ... different compound to reduce fade. Lee from Scraplife has some amazing builds. Keep plugging away Tony ... we'll keep watching.

Tony if you want the car loud all the time, fuse box behind the glove box, take out the fuse for the exhaust valve, that will keep the valve open all the time.

FYI that's still the old style master cylinder for the clutch, there was a TSB for the master cylinder and the new one is black not clear. The issue that has occurred to some and reason for the TSB is the clutch can stick to the floor due to failure on that style, especially during spirited driving. Also, aluminum frame, not magnesium. Great pick up!
