Billy Gibbons said in an interview that when they were recording "Eliminator" he went and got all of his little Champs and Princetons and Deluxes, etc. And arranged them into a little doghouse, he even put boards on top to make a roof. It good to see a Young guy who loves to play clean. I am not putting playing dirty down, I love to do it as well, But some players are only happy when every thing is over driven. And Rhythm and Solos sound great when a good clean tone is used, Especially with almost any quality Fender Tube Amp. I love trying to get a good balance of a clean tone with an ever so slightly warmed up tube, so the notes have some body to them and are not thin and wiry, But are mostly to the clean side.

Nah, you can play a bass through a guitar amp all day. It’s a pretty common practice in Nashville studios to get punchier low mids for recordings. The whole “bass through a guitar amp is bad for the speakers” thing is more or less a myth. Just don’t dime the master volume all the time.

If you ever come across a Fender Vibrosonic Reverb, I think you'd love one. It was originally in a package with a lap steel, but they take pedals and regular electrics extremely well. It's basically a Twin with 15, a stock master volume, and the closest thing to a linear volume pot I've ever seen on a Fender. Keep everything, you'll want it if you're ever tracking in the studio, and if you feel like it offer to let people hire you to show up with badass vintage amps as an "expert/rental service". Studios and guitars will thank you.

Fender put D140F's in bass cabs and D130F's in guitar cabs. I'd "look under the hood" before letting your bass player plug in, especially if he plays an active bass or a 5-string. D130's are tough but you'd hate to blow one! And...I'd take it to a band rehearsal before passing final judgement. Sometimes what sounds a little dry or harsh alone is what works in a band mix. I definitely liked the sounds you were getting from that guitar/amp combo!

So, I got a Red Knob Twin that I have a love/hate relationship with. Mostly my fault. So I got a small annoying hum and once again, I thought I could get rid of it. so I started swapping tubes with some of the older ones that I have and it seemed to be getting better. So I thought that I would spray down the tube sockets with some OLD TV tuner spray which left a residue!!!!!! and of course the hum got obnoxious so I bought 2 JJ 12ax7"S" tubes and a 12 at7 and replace the front row next to the 6l6's and sometimes it was great and the next time I turned it on the dogs next door called the cops on me. So I messed around with the back row and finally went out and bought 3 more 12ax7"S" and another 12at7 so all the preamp tubes were new and once again the dogs called the law and sent me a vet bill for psychological counselling for 6 beagles. so I began putting the old tubes back in and changing them this way and that way and in the Process, I began picking up Private conversations from the XI fellow over there in Red China. Any how right in the middle of when he was saying he was going to start bombing, The amp farted and blew a fuse in my friggin Laney amp that was off, but plugged into the same power strip. Down 2 Amps Dead in the water....well I got a couple more. but I unplugged all of the crap and opened up the Laney and was relieved to see it was only a fuse and It worked fine. But the Twin was dead. I could turn it on it it made all kinds of crappy sounds but no guitar signal. So it sat for 2 weeks until tonight So 20 years ago, I salvaged out a Hammond M3 for about 30 12ax7 and 30 or so 12au7. Well I took out all of the JJ 12ax7"s" and put the Baldwin 12ax7 in and she cranked up, spit out some oil and began humming like a kitten. So it's sounding great again. I've been using the JJ12ax7"s" in my other amps and also have a few 12ax7"MG"s in an amp or 2 without any issue Now I might have bought a bad tube which I'll check out tomorrow, But I'm going to leave the Green Baldwin(supposedly Sylvania) 12ax7 tubes in the Red Knob "The Twin". I like the amp when it runs good. I also run a Small 80's Fender Bassman 212 with 80 watt Celestions to go with the 100 watt Celestions in the The Twin. I'm almost 68 years old, and I love those older Fenders. I could kick my ass for the amps that I sold off over the years. I also have 2 50 watt Laney's (VC50 and GH50L) that I love and a Peavey VK112 that I can test my 12ax7's with

It seems to have a tighter sound without the reverb, hence the Marshall similarity.

Info only. In the 1970s Jerry Garcia and the Dead built the system called the Wall of Sound. It put out Twenty nine thousand Watts of power RMS. That's 15 time more power then what you're playing with. 29,000 WATTS of POWER RMS.

I thought you had a Super Six as well... Have you seen Joe Bonamasssa’s collection?!?! I’d say you’re in good company when it comes to amp collecting.

that’s what i’m talking about man! Good stuff. That’s my kind of rig. Definitely missing the reverb, but there’s some great old reverb tanks floating around... Another great video and great playing as always matt. Daisy chain them? Reverb from the other amp will mix well with the “sterile” sound of the new one...

Also the alembic F-2B preamps modeled after the dual showman preamp sections are incredible. Especially if you pair them with a good McIntosh power amp and JBLs or for bass paired with a home brew DI or we’re lucky to own a pair actual Motown DIs with actually Triad 11J transformers. If you know, you know.

I think it sounds better as the bass in the other one was overpowering. Great cleans. Not sure how it would overdrive.

You could run the silver for clean and the black for lead! Seriously I'd just love to come to a gig to hear you play. Plenty of people on U-tube pay fast, you have a voice though.

hey matt, from 1 picker to another look around and find your self a hicks mender. it will change your life forever. its a little black box that gives you overdrive at any volume(channel switching) reverb and vibrato would work in both channels.

Jump a short cable from the 2nd input of the Normal channel to input of the Vibrato channel and run them both together in order to push the preamp tubes. That will get you more of that fat overdrive sound you want out of this one. Since it isn't a reverb model, you should (hypothetically) be able to jump the two channels together without it being out of phase. It won't hurt the amp to try. Plug into the first input and then run a short cable from the second input on the Normal channel into the first input of the Vibrato channel.

Hi Matthew,.... change the Bass and Middle signal cap from a .1uf and .047uf to both being .022uf, the slope resistor from100k to 56k,.... the Negative feedback resistor to 27k ... the mid resistor off the bass pot to 15k and re bias the amp from a typical Fender setting of 58% to somewhere in the range of 64 to 67% .... theres your JTM45 type rig... no need to sell it ... just needs a little touch :-) Enjoy ... Mark

I've seen pics of the Yardbirds playing what I'm sure are rented backline Dual Showman Reverbs in 1968 in Cincinnati. What was interesting is that they had the heads sitting on the floor in front of the cabs. I wondered about that, till I realized that at the volume they were probably playing at, the heads would probably vibrate right off the cabs. I most associate DSR's with Ted Nugent. Loud and bright.

They are narrow and top heavy when you have the head stacked on top. The heads had slippery metal feet on the bottom. All it would take is a good yank on the cable to bring the whole thing crashing down. Also they were very expensive back in the day, adjusted for inflation they would have cost around $8,000 in 2019.
