For me, (and my M6 M2) the electronic viewfinder is a MUST. I really like that it’s detachable. Most of the time it’s in the camera. Really helps in bright outdoor situations.

I got an M6 mark II back in 2021 as an upgrade to my aging canon rebel 750d. I ended up selling it later on but funnily enough found myself missing so many of its features and quirks that i bought a full kit in 2023 and i swear i havent put it down since. Its so natural to use. Fantastic image quality and performance for its age too. I got the viewfinder and also the 32mm 1.4 ef-m, which if i could only have one lens, that would be it. God i love those camera

I have two of these. I used them for Photography and they absolutely crush photography. The sensor is amazing. For vlogging and filming there is an L plate that repositions the microphone on the side so you can flip up the screen with no issue. I beg to differ in these assumptions. The 32MP sensor is amazing for photos and the best fun and the best pictures I have ever taken are with this exact camera. For filming I would say it's kinda the worst. It's even worst than the M50 because it can only shoot 4K30 and it's not a real 4K image, it's an upscaled 3.6K to 4K. So it's not as sharp. Also it does not have any LOG profile and the dynamic range isn't very good. There are better cameras for filming and some of them are cheaper. The DJI Pocket destroys this camera for filming and it's cheaper.

I was in the exact same boat with the M50 & got a refurbished M6 Mk II a couple of weeks ago! Totally agree with the price, the slow-mo, etc. What I absolutely agree & really love is the M-mount. With the short flange distance, you can: 1) use a Viltrox 0.71x speed booster to make EF lenses faster & closer to its original focal length even on the APS-C sensor (i.e. 50mm f/1.4 becomes a 58mm f/1.2), all the while without sacrificing autofocus speed & accuracy, vs if you use an adaptor on a Sony or Fujifilm camera. 2) I can still use my dirt cheap C-mount (CCTV) manual focus lenses and a bunch of other vintage manual focus lenses that give great vintage feel straight out of the camera! The RF mount just can't match the versatility of the M mount in these 2 areas. Really wish Canon would do something to revitalize it instead of killing it.

@@miguelmonforte No doubt. As for my experience, if there's any it's been imperceptible without pixel peeping. The draw of using a speed booster is the extra stop of light that I get from it, so I tend to shoot with bigger apertures more than with smaller ones when using it. In this case, all-around maximum sharpness is not crucial. I've also been really enjoying the slightly exaggerated characters of whatever lenses I put on it. My 25 year-old EF 28-105mm from the film era has now been my default walk-around lens on that camera when it comes to taking photos with it.

@@miguelmonforteI have a Voltrox sb as well as just the adapter for my m6ii as a still photographer I almost never pic up the sb and generally just use the adapter unless I need a little extra in low light it’s not that it makes the image any less sharp but it 1000 percent gives it a smoother almost color paint look compared side by side it’s not bad just not my favorite look if you are looking for a photography focused adapter and wanting the sb go ahead and spend the extra 30 for the ef-m mount you won’t regret it turns every ef lens to 2 separate lenses in looks and in focal lengths

As a photographer who shoots with both eyes open, the separate viewfinder is much better than most internal ones - it gives the other eye a much less cluttered view. Very much a photographer's camera.

You are 100% right! I have an M50 and two M6MII. I do a lot of multicam vídeos and easily pair them with my R7 and BMPCC6kPro. Specially if you use them with longer lenses like Nifty Fifty or 85mm 1.8 with adapters. You can’t tell the difference in videos for KZbin. But be careful with overheating in 4K.

So I'm very close to buying an M6 Mark II for video work, *but* having had overheating issues when filming 4K with a Canon G7X Mark III, I've very nervous about overheating. What's your experience been with the M6 MkII with overheating? Especially given I rolled with a Sony A6400 for a while and IIRC never had any issues with the camera getting too hot.

I have mine in a cage, mic on the side - plus DJI wireless mics. Flip up works perfectly with the added threads on the cage and of course the base is Arca Swiss for quick mounting. Huge fan of the M6 Mark II. Actually have two of 'em and picked the second one up refurbished and save some $$$. The flip-up screen is okay but poorly designed since it's nearly impossible to use the bottom row of buttons when fully flipped up. A solution I came up with was getting a SmallRig vlogging cold-shoe plate. Small enough to pop on the bottom of the camera and hang a mic off the side.

Had the M6 Mark II with the Sigma trio. Great package but wasn't performing in the extreme conditions that I was shooting in. Sold everything EF-M related for the Canon R7. No regrets.

Yeah the Canon M6 II is an awesome deal that not a lot of people seem to be talking about. I'd definitely recommend it if you already have lenses that you enjoy using on your Canon M50 II. Also if you pick up the Viltrox Speed Booster you're looking at a sorta full frame for under 1k!

I have the M6 mark I and have a 3D printed bracket that screws in the bottom and allows an external mic to be mounted on the side. Simple and easy solution for the mic problem

So I'm really, really torn on going back to a Sony A6400, that I've used before, or getting an M6 Mark II. I love Canon cameras and the colours they get especially, but recently had a bad experience with the G7X Mark III and overheating very quickly when shooting in 4K which made vlogging on the go/in a busy environment pretty difficult, given it kept overheating and having to wait 10-15 minutes to cool down again before I could use it at all. I *loved* my A6400, but it did have some foibles, like the lack of any kind of stabilisation - either IBS or digital - which meant filming with one was *very* shaky at times, plus the mic input had this weird limiter issue that I couldn't turn off which would cut the mic audio if it peaked, meaning it was actually *more* sensitive to wind noise than other cameras despite using an external mic and deadcat on that. To me, the M6 Mark II is everything I loved about the A6400 plus a bit more besides - but mostly it's the overheating that concerns me, given my issues with the G7X Mark III. What's been your experience with filming 4K with the M6 Mark II? ^_^

Yeah, so I have not use this camera enough especially in 4k to have a strong opinion on the overheating. Other than I have had no overheating at all and I've been able to record a 10-15 minute video straight without any overheating whatsoever! Hope this helps! I really like the Canon M6 II and I'm sure any cemera is going to have it's pros and cons. So I'd go with whatever makes you most excited to create!

I just traded my M6 (and accompanying lenses) for a 90D which has similar specs. I loved everything about the M6 except the battery life which was abysmal. There are some trade-offs with the 90D (bulky size, loud vibrating DSLR shutter, etc) but it makes up for it with great battery life, vast lens selection, and a headphone jack.

I am 99.99% still person and I think EOS M6II is a very good camera for still. Beside the EVF, this camera is very quick, and the interface with the DVF clip on is far better then my Sony A7RIV. But I agree the lacking EVF is a deal breaker for me. I am getting EOS M6II because I get it so cheap that it cost zero dollar for me to get it.

Got mine back in late January, first ever camera that isnt my phone or a cheap disposable from Walgreens haha. I got an awesome score of a deal. Body, 2 lenses (EF 50mm 1.8 and EF-S 55-250mm IS II, not as good as the STM but still good) and a tripod for $450. I've since gotten 3 new lenses, 1 of which I just sold which are the EF-M 18-55m, EF-M 22mm, and EF-S 24mm. (I sold the 24mm). Overall I'm having fun with my camera, I plan on getting new lenses and I'm currently looking at picking up a 17-55mm f/2.8 for $200.

I use video luts from Ezra Cohen and another free pack I got online somewhere. I use the neutral color profile and just do some slight color corrections! The image out of the Canon M6 Mark II is great on its own!

You are very wrong about the photography side of this camera. I use this camera strictly for photography. High end clients to streetwalk. I only use that pop up screen and find it extremely usable. More so than i would find sideway pop. It's directly in line of my view when looking down at it. Camera is very small and light including the lenses and produces very high quality images. And also its very very fast in operation and shooting of images. Have i mentioned silent shooting too? Dude, think again.

I also see you can output to 4k10bit 422 to external recorder, so seems can be rigged out as a mini cine camera or keep it light for travel or blog. The Canon M50 II will have a built in EVF and flip out screen and 24mp sensor where the M6 II has a flip up screen no EVF and a 32mp sensor. Both are great options just depends on the layout because the internals are very similar!

@@AndrewKnepper photography. About 10 years ago I was totally into videography and had the latest gear, pro audio, Canon 1D Mark IV, 5D Mark 2, the very best of Canon EF prime lenses. But then the whole thing was really cumbersome, dragging all the gear into the field, hours of editing on FCP, sometimes the models showed up, other times they didn’t EVEN though I was paying them. So I pretty much was done with video. Nowadays it’s strictly photography. Just purchased the Canon EF85mm f1.2L II today for the fifth time in ten years. On the M6 II it’s a 136mm lens which is a pretty small package that is really powerful, given the specs of the M6 II. Will be purchasing the Canon EOS R3 soon. I’m an 85mm shooter but I swear the Sigma 135mm f1.8 beats any 85mm lens for portraits. The thing with the M6 II is that Canon discontinued it because I believe it was eating into their sales of their R series mirrorless cameras. M6 II has 32MP, 12FPS, touch screen. uncropped 4k video…….so…….

I'm a pro photographer, I don't understand why do you think a camera is not for photographers because it does not have a viewfinder... I never use the viewfinder in any camera and for me is a plus not having it in my M6mkII, this camera is just fantastic for the photography I do (landscapes and portraits). For video and for what I do, I get much better results with my S23 Ultra specially in 4K 60fps even the mic on this phone is way better (but a huge difference) than any mic I attached to my camera, for example Deity. I ever travel with the 70-200L IS II + Adapter, EFM 11-22, EFM 22, Sigma 56mm and not so much with the EFM 32mm that probably I will sell because I never use it, I think I never used 50mm FF in any camera I had.

Yeah I'm not saying that you can't use it for photography, but I definitely feel like there are better photography cameras in that price range. The Canon RP for example. But I have used the Canon M6 II for some photography and it does get some sharp photos!

Best camera, i got for 500$. Beast camera. High megapixel, uncrop 4k video. just amazing. I make a video from my trip use M6 mark ii and 7artisan lens. All in my channel.

@@AndrewKnepper i am a user m50, and now stil thingking about RF sistem or moving to sony or move to m6 markii (still in efm system. i love canon, buat just bcoz d RF system dos not allowed other lens corp to make third party lens. it is such a big deal

Yeah I really enjoy both my M50 and M6 II. I think they still are powerful enough for what I do on a budget! Someday eventually I'll have to get something with the RF mount, but until then I love the M mount system!

Yeah I believe it's be unofficially ended for quite a while. The Canon R50 is a pretty big sign that it's over.

Am sure you know the 4K in video is fake (not true 4K), hence why it's renders a soft image.

All your reasons and more are on the R10 and R50 😂. The only big miss is the sigma lenses

The R10 and R50 are both great budget cameras, but the budget lenses that you can get with them are not impressive to me... Also both R cameras have 24mp sensors while the M6 has a 32mp sensor. The M6 is more compact which is another pro to me. And the biggest pro is the Sigma lenses. Seriously can't be more happy with the Sigma 16mm and the Sigma 30mm. So all in all I had to go with the M6 II and I don't regret it!
