All 18v and 20v (Milwaukee and DeWalt for example) tools are the exact same voltage, it's just the marketing. They both have 5 18650 batteries in series. The difference in a good battery pack is the peak amps it can draw, and the capacity (how long it will last). Of course there's other factors but those are the basics.
@gabest4
@gabest4 8 ай бұрын
It's usually the nominal 3.7v that is used. Fully charged 4.2v, that's why he measures more. To calculate capacity, you do 3.7v * X mAh, it's the closest to reality.
@deadly_dave
@deadly_dave 8 ай бұрын
@@gabest4 This is correct, however, neither of those values are the reason the tool is stalling. The voltage will in part determine the speed of rotation but the stalling is happening due to a loss of current, which is usually denoted by the C rating of the battery. The C value will tell you the amount of current the battery can dump into the tool at any one instance in time or as the OP said peak amp draw. Even a good tool with a sucky battery will be sucky.
@refactorear
@refactorear 8 ай бұрын
Indeed. In America they call it 18v, in Europe they call it 20v but it's exactly the same. I think there was a legal reason for that.

That is a 'Makita Compatible' tool. Which is the go to platform for random China knockoffs. The batteries are often the weak point (and why the low price) and are notorious for the BMS going into protection because the cells are low amp. Try a genuine Makita 5ah pack and it will likely perform much improved

@@UnacceptableViews Totally agree, this video doesn't have anything in common with proper test review. I'm aware that battery came with this tool is very cheap and weak but seriously, he didn't even try to charge it first before use. Fully charged should have at least 20,5-20,6V and that 1V difference really matters in cheap batteries.

Hi Tyler I had a question for you. What's the best thing to use to sharpen knives and swords without taking too much metal and shortening the life of the blade? I saw a video saying they used the work sharp with blade grinder attachment but then read grinders take off too much metal but I didn't know if using high grit belts with light pressure would get the job done without doing that. So in your opinion what's the best way to sharpen a knife with shortening life duration?

20v and 18v batteries are the same it just depends on what standard the manufacturer uses. For example you can use dewalt 18v eu batteries on 20v us dewalt tools . And Makitas 40v battery would be the same as two 18v makita batteries. But yeah 19.4 v is a bit low for a fully charged and new battery.

i bought some knock off M18 batteries from Amazon, they worked for 1/4 driver, drill and 3/8 impact, wouldn't run angle grinder, 1/2 impact, leaf blower or wet/dry vac. Dropped one attached to tool and it broke into many pieces and shorted out. Ran over a M18 battery attached to my angle grinder with a semi tractor, I had to replace the angle grinder but the battery just had some scrapes and a tear in the rubber cover. Noticeable difference in the weight between the two also. Didn't do a voltage test.

20v is the same thing as 18v. It's the same amount of cells, and the same full charge per cell. 20v is marketing hype, and is the max full charge of the battery, which is around 4.1v-4.2v per cell. 18v is the nominal voltage of the pack, which is 3.6v per cell. 18v still charges to a max voltage of 21v, or at least should.
