To be fair, the camera ad promised to take the photos. It never promised to keep your photos.

Thanks for saving me from buying this one. I’d considered getting it as a break from quality cameras. I’ll dig out my E-PL1 with the broken ibis and put the Olympus body cap lens on it instead.

This reminds me of the “Optical lens” cameras you find periodically at thrift stores. Bad small plastic lenses and lead weights to make them “feel” like they work. I actually love them.

You hit a new low, cool!!!! Lol. I recall in the early 90s there was tv advertising for a " Olympic" 35mm camera a play on the olympus name that was sold for $29 dollars USA with a lens and a flash. Complete garbage. I still see them at flea markets and garage sales today. All the people that got ripped off thinking thet were buying a om 1 om2 or a om10.

A thought re the missing images. I'm presuming you used an SD card supplied with the camera. I'd check the actual capacity of the card. It may be a small capacity card spoofed to read as a larger capacity ... like the cheap USB drives advertised as 2TB that are, on a good day, maybe 32gb.

I recently bought a $28 Kodak i60 film camera. Min focus distance 1m. Hyper focus 1m-infinity. Shot a roll of Kodak 400 and a roll of B&W. Waiting for the film processing.

Interestingly enough I just saw a video of a comparison of a Summilux 35mm and a Zeiss 35mm 1.4. In the same environment. On a 60mp camera. A bit more expensive. Good luck with your camera!

The bokeh seems okay, it probably needs sufficient light on the sensor. On a tripod, it would be okay for video too.

That would be a great camera for the instamatic crowd. The photos reminded me of the quality of the cheap110 cameras from years ago. Instamatic cameras were for people who wanted to "document" family vacations and special occasions printed small (an 8X10 would look terrible) They were easy to use but gave marginal results, but before the days of smart phones were the camera of choice for the "non photographer picture taker". For the price that camera seemed to perform O.K. (but I'm sure many better used cameras can be had for the same money) A Pulitzer prize winning photo was taken with a Kodak box brownie camera ("rescue on pit river bridge" -1954) , so it's not always about the equipment. ("f:8 and be there" seems to be making the rounds on the internet these days). As an accomplished professional photographer I'm sure you found the limitations of that camera frustrating. Maybe take it out with a more relaxed attitude and lower expectations. I did think some of the pictures you took were quite nice, even if the camera lost many of them and wasn't much fun to use. I always enjoy your videos.

As a collector and user of subminiature film cameras, including 110 format, I object to the blanket statement about 110 cameras. While it is true that most people bought cheap and nasty 110 Pocket Instamatics, that produce horrid photographs, there are several models from Canon, Minolta, Rollei, Pentax, Fujifilm, Agfa, and even Kodak with superb lenses that produce excellent images. My favorite is the Minolta 110 SLR Zoom because of manual controls, but the Kodak Pocket Instamatic 60 has a superb rangefinder, and a Rodenstock f1.7 lens, is a close second. The Pentax 110 Auto gets a lot of love from a lot of people because of the interchangeable lenses, but, while I have both models, I don't like the all-automatic operation of the Pentax system. Not all 110 cameras are the same. And there is good reason why 110 film is still made, and there are new 110 camera models being introduced. I haven't used the new Lomomatic 110 camera yet, but from what I have seen, it looks like it should produce good results, and I am looking forward to getting one. BTW, when I started my photography journey back in 1962, the saying wasn't 'f8 and be there.' It was 'f8, and don't be late.' Maybe they just said that because I tended to be the last to arrive :)

@@artistjoh If you re read my post You will see that I qualified my statement with the word "cheap" and "instamatic", most of which didn't take great photos, but which also were the most common 110 cameras sold. I also have used a decent miniature camera (Minox B) and appreciate that a tiny format can still take decent pictures.

Hey Jimmy, not really a photo question, more like a life question. I’m 29, I have an art degree and have spent the past 5 years working the night shift as a janitor in a rubber factory. I try to make the best of it, and try to make friends at the factory. But, I often feel like an alien that just doesn’t belong. I wanted to be a professional artist-photographer making and shooting portraits. Instead, a good day for me is when I can get all the toilets cleaned on time. Just in general, I feel really alone and lost. I don’t have any friends to talk to about stuff, and I don’t have a wife or girlfriend either. I have tried volunteering for photo groups and I’ve shot a few gigs on and off, but my career is essentially stagnant. I have been told I’m gifted artistically numerous times, but if anything I feel as though I am cursed. Have you ever felt this way before, like you’re not where you need to be or don’t belong? Greetings from Indiana USA.
@Red35Photography
@Red35Photography Ай бұрын
Thanks for your words. Yes, I spent my first five years feeling lost. Though I kept shooting and shooting until my photos started to get some noticed by people. It’s probably luck, but once you get one or two admirers who are connected and exposed in the photography world, you will slowly get some credits. It can take time and it’s also a daunting process. That’s why I mentioned many times that this world isn’t for everyone. Many can enjoy gear and buying cameras and lenses but it’s a different world when you actually look at photos and art. Also try competitions too!
@prestonowens4594
@prestonowens4594 Ай бұрын
@@Red35Photography hmm, I think the connections part is probably one of the issues here for me. Where I live there is virtually no art scene. I think I need to really put in more effort into buffing up my Instagram. So far I think I have about 6 posts on there, but since owning my OMD, I think I have probably shot 100,000 photos or more now, but I have not posted most of them. I’m really interested in portrait and figurative work in photographer and in paintings. My dream right now would be to create a documentary book about Indiana, my state the good and the bad. I noticed after college, that my home isn’t a destination, so much as it is a place where people grow up and leave. But I also realized that even though the landscape is dotted with ugly factories, inside of those places are people from all over the world that are working to provide for their families and they’ve got dreams and hopes just like me. I wish I could find a way to put it all together visually to make sense; like a documentary book of photos and writings. It’s all very daunting to me. Thank you for sharing your videos on KZbin and for your words Jimmy.
