Brad and Trav wanted to get their hands on the benchmark of sports cars, a Porsche 911. The 997 variant seemed out of their budget, but with a ton of sweat and a little hustle, they were able to bring home a 2006 997 911 with a bad clutch, but some hidden gems.
To get the Porsche road worthy again, they replace the clutch because it's extremely difficult to push down. They also service the car which includes changing the spark plugs. Next up was the green stripe, which initially they were going to get rid of, but after a little research found out it was the 911R stripe, and were able to source one for the other side.
After a couple more enhancements, this car was ready to go!

Lasted a couple thousand miles. Actually was impressed how long it lasted. It’s probably because they are exhaust tips and don’t get that hot. But now they are powder coated black ;)

Funny how cyclical styles are.. Remember when I was a kid in the 90's, black trim, mirrors etc was scene as old, was all about the clean look of color keyed.. Now, things like rear window slats, black mirrors, and black trim are back in vogue. It's the 80's all over again!

I love that on old school cars from the 80's and 90's, people were desperate to get rid of the black plastic looking mirrors and spec up body coloured mirrors. fast forward to 2018 and we're now getting rid of perfectly good body colour mirrors and going to crap looking black plastic again. Contrast mirrors ONLY look good when its high gloss. Plastidip just looks 80's tastic.

My 85 3.2 Carrera had body color matched mirrors. But yes a lot of other manufacturers did black out the mirrors. Honestly, I thought it looked good since I accented a few things in black, and the nice thing is Plastidip is not permanent, so it's super easy to return back to OEM. The wheels are a matte black, so a high gloss on the mirrors would probably look a bit 'off'. Either way, thanks for watching the video and the support! Really appreciate it!

Having just found the channel, I'll probably binge until I find out. But if you find this before, I'm curious how the plasti-dip holds up on the exhaust. Coming from a track addict, I keep thinking it'll melt/burn off with extended, um, "as-intended" use.

It holds up ‘ok’. We drove the car hard for about 4K miles and it started to come off a little. If you’re looking for a non permanent solution it works great. Just touch it up every couple thousand miles. Tho I ended up hitting the tips with high temp black paint and they turned out great! But then again it’s more or less permanent. So pick your poison ;)

When installing spark plugs, always use anti-seize. Steel spark plugs in aluminum heads, or any alloy head will cause galling and electrolysis (dissimilar metals tend to eat/or degrade one another you might find pitting or a white powder when this has happened.). I think, the engine is supposed to be warm when removing spark plugs. Ford has a problem with spark plugs pulling the thread out of the head with the plug, ruining the heads completely. If you have a water cooled Porsche, check into a anode attached to the radiator cap. That also helps to defeat electrolysis going on throughout your cooling system.

So when it came time to sell... we did what every normal thinking human would do and took it on a 40 day road trip! After that trip, it's going to be extremely hard to ever let this car go. Dakar!!! Love your M! Like you saw I found the Estoril on Modena M to partially trade for this car. Before this 911, we bought, fixed and sold an E90 M (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWqcpayBo9B1npY) and I've always had a soft spot for the M chassis (e36 being my favorite). I think the best of both worlds is to have an M car and 911 in the stable :) but if you could only chose one I think the 997 at the current price is an incredible value! With that said.. Imo it looks better before with this silver wheels. The matte black wheels with black rear fender protector makes the car look dirty. Those only look good on the 930s not meant for the newer 997. But it’s your 997 and whatever looks good to you that really matters. Congrats man and yes you upgraded from the m3 to the 911 and it’s a different beast.

Yeah I looked into steering wheels, but the cost to put a black OEM wheel on there was wayy too much! The blue wrap on it now with the beige interior has a great contrast (at least I think so). The Fuchs that come on the 50th anniversary 911 are awesome! Again, spendy tho! Haha I've found everything on the Porsche is costly to change! But man Fuchs and a ducktail spoiler... that would be awesome! I was able to partial trade a super rare e36 m3 for this car ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/enKwlJyqjqmMaKs ). I was able to snag it for mid 20's.

I love the old school slave cylinder because no hydraulic lines have to be opened or bled but it just seems so out of place on a 21st century high tech Porsche. Like really, that’s the best you could do German engineers?

Having a lift speeds up any repair. I can't imagine doing a clutch without a lift. Even the spark plug change was fast. My future dream house WILL have a lift. Must have.
