@samcrac Hey Sam I had the same problem on my salvage i8 it took 3 flushes and the recommended bleeding procedure in the manual. For evry two minutes after the engine starts you have to rev to 3500 rpm for 5 seconds and rest for 10 then repeat that 4 times until you hit a total time of 16 minutes. Now repeat the entire thing exepect at 5500 rpm until ur total time is 18 min. Then at 18 min do it one last time to 5500 rpm then take a test drive in sport mode. After three times of doing this it solved my problem

However, unlike in the low-temperature cooling circuit, the bleeding procedure does not end automatically, but must be independently completed by a Service employee. 1 Evacuate and fill cooling system using vacuum filling device. Remove the vacuum filling device after the filling procedure is completed. 2 When the expansion tank is open, open the bleeder screw for 20 seconds. 3 Close the bleeder screw and expansion tank again. 4 Terminal 15 ON, set IHKA controls to 28 °C / 82 °F at blower speed 1 and "Air conditioning OFF". 5 Press the accelerator pedal for about 20 seconds at full load (engine OFF). 6 Start combustion engine in selector lever position "P" with Automatic Hold brake engaged. 7 Increase engine speed using accelerator pedal 4 times for about 5 to 10 seconds to roughly 3500 rpm, with a 10 second interval between the respective engine speed increases. Repeat procedure every 2 minutes for about 16 to 18 minutes. 8 Increase engine speed using accelerator pedal 4 times for about 5 to 10 seconds to roughly 5500 rpm, with a 10 second interval between the respective engine speed increases. 9 After 20 minutes carry out a test drive in selector lever position "S" and with heating turned on fully. 10 The ventilation is completed as soon as hot air flows continuously from the air outlets. 11 Adapt coolant in the cooled down state to MAX filling level" hope it helps!

That sounds like a coolant line blockage more than a thermostat issue. For shits and giggles replace the coolant reservoir cap. This is a very common issue on VW and the system here on the Bmw looks very similar in that it's a closed system. The reservoir cap should have a pressure relief valve or something to that effect and if it fails the coolant won't circulate through the system.

Many years ago, I went through a similar problem with the Mitsubishi Starion. The thermostat kept showing that the car was running extremely hot. After exhausting all possibilities, including water pump, thermostat, and a fan clutch, to no avail, I finally realized that the only indication that the car was about to explode was the gauge, no other steam, or drainage anywhere. Several mechanics and dealerships later, I found one man that told me it could be a blown capacitor on the gauge. Indeed, it was, the car was never overheating, and a $25 replacement part finally took care of the problem.

these are the comments im interested in, someone with technical information that could solve the problem
@ProjectsbyTMD4 жыл бұрын
With your comment on no coolant circulation and eliminating the thermostat as a possible root cause, one possible suspect is that there may be a sand casting core that has broken loose in the engine and blocked one of the coolant passage ways. (The casting core when the engine block/head was manufactured.) Pressurizing the inlet side and the alternate pressurizing the outlet side of the 2 hoses going to the radiator with air might help to confirm this possible diagnosis.

Hey Sam. I had a Nissan truck that, after an accident, had this same problem. It turned out that someone had switched the reservoir cap with the radiator cap. Then, an aftermarket coolant reservoir cap that lacked the same type of spring to pressurize the system properly was just installed. It took three shops before a rare TSB was discovered mentioning a problem with aftermarket caps. They replaced everything and voila, problem solved. Good luck!

I'd be checking if the temp sensors are working correctly. Now which one? As there is a cooling loop for the battery pack and front traction motor also, which has bypasses, a pump in the front, and heats and cools at a different rate to the IC. Try it on EV only and see if it gets hot.There is also a separate water pump for the turbo, and a trick electric heated coolant source for the interior heater for when driving on EV only, and another ccoling fan behind the right rear tail light.

Check for the highest point in the coolant system, I am assuming its higher than the coolant reservoir. If this is the case then there should be a bleed screw/fitting to top up the system, check around the cylinder head & thermostat housing? just a wild guess.
@kain0m4 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure these have a coolant switching valve. That, and a special bleed mode for it. I'd suggest checking this valve and seeing if it is stuck or broken. I think you're right on the money with the cold reservior - there was some pressure, but no flow. Also, some modern BMWs have an electric auxillary coolant pump, may be worth checking into that too.

Usually when a car has gone through 5 shops and they couldnt fix it, its a $5 fix. (dealer wanted to put a new engine lmao)
@mwh24124 жыл бұрын
I’d definitely be going for a check of the coolant temp sensor values using a decent scan tool. Bimmerlink would be ideal. Or while your in there doing the thermostat fit new temp sensors too.

I was hoping it would be an easy fix this episode. But then I remembered it was your channel 😂
@gradoisx23484 жыл бұрын
Most modern cars that type will have a coolant temp sensor on the engine itself and on the radiator to check cooling system efficiency. Make sure to check both sensors
@Anthony84984 жыл бұрын
Simple test rig up some hoses and fittings and blow water thru the lines and the block to make sure you don’t have a blockage
@alaaalaaraj38194 жыл бұрын
Inspect each hose's temp at different points of it, that will make you narrow down the problem, inspect the radiator interior it might be blocked with something, GL 🖒🖒

A similar thing to check is if one hose going to radiator is hot and other is cold. Could a be thermostat issue or low coolant.
@domnuspike4 жыл бұрын
install multiple temperature sensors to see where the problem starts.. like, 1 sensor on each cylinder, one here one there on the cooling circuit, one for the exhaust gas etc etc

Hey, before you even pulled out a spark plug my thoughts where on the the heat management module which houses an electrically controlled thermostat. this is controlled by the DME which could be not outputting a voltage to open or close the valve and the valve is stuck in one posistion. The volatage to the the solinoid/valve is battery voltage. So dont just condem the heat managment module, do the checks first. Its not acceptable that the vehicle was not diagnosed correctly by the dealership. I have worked on these vehicles since they lauched and have not changed an engine yet. So highly doubt its an engine.

Thermostat, rad, water pump. Checking for head gasket : does it holds pressure? Warm it up squeeze a radiator hose.

I had a similar problem. There is actually an airbleed screw in one of the coolant lines. Mine had an every so slight leak in it. Air would build up and coolant couldn’t flow past it and engine heat up. All BMW need the coolant system vacuum pulled but air was leaking back in through the bleed screw. This means you have to bleed it prior to vacuum pulling it. The air trapped in it will prevent it from circulating.

Stuck thermostat or blocked radiator, Snapped water pump. My bad it's a BMW even if you fix it, it'll break down again.

that's why you follow the Hoovies mantra leave one thing broken and you won't have any more problems. Then again its a modern BMW they come from the factory broken

Wouldn't one of the first things to check is that the impeller is damaged on the water pump , possibly slipping on it's shaft . This would give you circulation on tickover as the forces are small but failure as soon as the revs build . What would then happen is that it could tick over and do what you want but under driving the pump wouldn't keep up so then overheating
@erikdetar40674 жыл бұрын
Run a water hose at one end to see if water comes out the other end To see any blockages Look at all the temp sensors an other connection with the system disconnect the connection look at it has a good connection I think they are low voltage and amp ,has to have a good contact to work properly Erik
