A coworker found out I did melts and asked if I ever did lead. I never had and after watching this I doubt that I ever will. Great video!

Lead is a fairly simple material to work with. You can cast some detailed pieces with it. But not with a melting pot 😅.

Lead is pretty easy to melt over a campfire. The issue is finding it, whatever industry could go away from lead has or is going away from it, at least where I live Fishihg wise the big heavy bottom feeder sinkers are sold in both lead and steel, it's just the small balls that you put directly on the line for float fishing. And you'd have to go diving in rivers where there are a lot of weeds, tree branches, rree roots and all kinds of... trash to put it lightly. My friend fished out a whole lamb's hide for example Pipes are PVC and have been for a while so old lead pipes are hard to find Wheel weights are pretty much all steel so you can't bring home a bucket of lead from the mechanic. You can bring home a bucket of weights but good luck fishing out a decent amount of lead, if any So far guns are pretty much the only industry where lead would be easy to come by from ranges. Would be, if I didn't live in a hellhole LARPing a country

A lot of old big buildings here still have the lead plumbing in it (not in use). A lot of places where you can fish, they banned lead fishing weights (so i was told). Lead from mechanic.., yeah they take it to the scrapyard themselves 😅. So I’m glad I can do a lot of demolition jobs in old buildings. Those jobs have given me my whole stack😅. Well almost my whole stack..

Really good attempt. Better than I did with my first attempt. I was about 12 or 13 me and a friend melted the lead over an open fire in the garden and the mould was damp sand in a bucket . Our thumbs gave us the mould shape and we hand made wire loops. But they worked. A long way from where I ended up, turning out 1,200 lead weights in about 12 hours, all trimmed and finished waiting to be sold. £10 worth of lead from the scrap yard would give me over £100 worth of lead weights. I used mostly do-it moulds, fast easy to use moulds and the leads came out clean with very little work to do when cast. Be carful using the devil forge melting lead as the melting point of your mould "Aluminium" is only 660 Degrees C, over heat the lead and you will melt the mould. I used to use a twin burner camping stove with a bottle and it was fast and ideal temp. I would melt on the left burner and heat tools and moulds on the right burner with a really low flame. Use an old stainless steel sauce pan to melt the lead and a stainless steel soup ladle to pour into the mould " don't trust the pan handle to lift full of lead as it will fail sooner or later. I enjoyed watching this as it brought back some good memories. Will be good to see where you go with it. Keep up the good work.

I’m glad you enjoyed watching my video! I still have the lead weights hanging in my garage not knowing what to do with them. Maybe I’ll remelt them in one huge weight.. Nice little business you had! I was thinking the same thing with the aluminum molds! I’ll need a camping stove, I’ve been saying that for years to melt lead and I never buy it😅. But this year, I’m buying one!! Old pots I’ll get at a thrift shop. Thank you for watching!!

Would preheating the molds help? And sorry about your melting pot, that's a real bummer.

I’m not sure. I think I couldn’t get the lead hot enough to flow through good enough. That’s ok, I’ll figure something out 😉
